Dan & I went to Michigan to play the California State Championships of Michigan that Bruce ran. It took place on Willow Brook Golf Course in Byron, MI. Everyone played the California format getting 1 extra throw per hole.

I had a blast!! I expected this GOLF course to be a piece of crap that no one played. It was a great golf course as well as an AWESOME disc golf course. It was very long, 13,000+ feet. Bruce did a great job designing the holes. All greens and sand traps were OB. There was also water & rough that came into play all over the course.

All players had to split a cart. It was great riding the carts and playing disc golf. It was a true Par 72 course with par 3, 4, & 5's. We played an 18 hole & 9 hole round both days. I shot 71 & 30 (-7) on Friday & 73 & 35 for (E) on Saturday. I needed almost every Cali throw to shoot those scores. You had to have every type of shot in your bag. Distance helped but it wasn't the most important to score well on this course.

I think this course will be in the ground all fall. It was well worth the trip to play. Go check it out.

You should call in advance for a tee time.  That is the way they do it up there.  Green fees are $10 and a cart is $10.  Take a friend and you can split the cart.

I really don't expect any of the readers of this board to make the six hour drive to Michigan to play this course, but if your employment or family obligations or whatever send you to southeast Michigan, then this is worth checking out.

Sounds like a blast.

I played Turkey Creek in Iowa this weekend, was alot of fun- pretty challenging. Who knew Iowa had elevation changes?

I would love to go up there and play that Michigan course but it's just a wee-bit out of the way..

Did you guys happen to get pictures?

I don't think that retard brought his camera so we don't have pictures, but the course was really beautiful.  I had an awesome time.  I think that all disc golf should be played with golf carts now  :D   we had a blast driving to our shots, or driving up to see where the basket is before you make your shot.  that really saves alot of time and energy.  my arm is a bit sore today after throwing 63 holes on that course over the weekend.  most holes are over 700 feet.  the shortest hole was about 380.  alot of the tees were really elevated which makes the tee shots awesome to watch.  the holes really made you think.  there were 2 holes that you had the option of trying to make it over the water and get to the basket or you could lay up.  i know brett and i both lost discs on those holes  :o   god i'm going to hate walking around with my bag for the next couple weeks.  also the weather turned out to be awesome for the tournament on saturday, despite some pre-tournament showers.

i'd like to thank bruce for running a fun tournament as always and also i'd like to thank his whole family for their hospitality over the weekend.  it was alot of fun.
If anybody gets a chance to play this course in Byron, MI, DO IT.  you'll have one of the most fun rounds of disc golf you've ever played.

I did my financials on this event.  Not counting gas and my entry fees, I made a fat $12 on this event.  I was down $100 after Diana did the Day 2 financials and it was looking pretty grim.  Then I won a basket raffle that Tracy was running, and Dan's prizes bumped down to me because he played trophy only, and Mark Ellis bought a couple of discs because I found and returned one of those priceless Innova discs that he throws that Innova has forgotten how to make, and bingo! I'm up $12.

Thanks for getting those Saturday results on the PDGA page Bruce. That was funny when you won that basket.
