thanks mirth for getting those up!   my favorite is the self-imposed-front-side-dead-wedgie.

the disc hanging on the basket is one of four gateway 'supersoft' wizards donated by the river city disc golf club of st. louis.   sounds like a few of them will be coming up to rockford, so if you see any of them, mike fritz inparticular, tell them thanks.

Greg

I am amazed at how sharp digital photos are these days.  It looks like you had a 4 megapixel camera.  If you click a second time on the images you get great resolution as it zooms into the photo.  I would have liked to see some action shots of plastic flying but these were cool.  Thanks.

whofarted

looking back on the day i cant even remember having a moment to sit back and watch some discs fly.  not saying that there wasnt time, but by that point in the week i was so stressed that i didnt really take time to sit and take it all in.  i didnt even hit me that it was a huge turnout and good time for alot of people until a week after when alot of the rockford guys were talking it up.
i am really looking forward to having another leg of the IOS in here at anna page, maybe a bit earlier in the summer.  hopefully some of the sponsors that didnt thrown in this year will get on board for this next one so we can get some serious added cash for all the divisions.  and we will be doing it over two days, so it should be a little easier to handle.

Howdy all!

Next Sunday, September 11th, the GRABM disc golf club will be having its yearly picnic.  It is 15 bucks, and for that you get all the bacon-wrapped steak and beer you can consume.  We'll be setting up a temporary course at Seward Bluff Forest Preserve and if it is anything like years before we will have a couple cross-creek shots, some long bombers, and a really cool cliff shot that Fred Vroman will never forget.   Bring your portables, silverware, and a side to pass.   We'll be starting at 9am and going to dusk, but feel free to show at any time!

Thanks for the invite Greg! I'll be outta town at Am-nationals.

Can you get some pictures of both courses in Rockford? We'll add a course page to our web if you do. Check out Fairfield or any other course with pictures on the directory. I'd like something similar to that if you are interested.

Have fun! Maybe Fred won't get so drunk & break his wrist  .

got some good news from the Rockford Park District - there will be a third course installed at Anna Page this summer!  once installed, the park will become a pay to play facility, probably 30 to 40 a year or a few bucks for per day.  look forward to water hazards, some long holes, and plenty of trees.

Tell them to go all out & get a qualified course designer to redo the new course & this one at the same time. That could move Rockford to #1 if that happens.

thats one thing that will be brought up to the club.  some will fight tooth and nail to keep the new 18 the way it is, others will welcome the change, but i cant imagine it being a simple decision for this group to make.  dave gentry of gateway has expressed intrest in helping design the new addition and possibly redoing the old one - he got street cred and hopefully the guys of GRABM will take his advice.

Ok, so my wife and I for our anniversary went out to Rockford.  One of the planned events was to play at the Anna Page park :)  I'm pretty sure it was the east course that we played at since it had the concrete tees, the A/B tee signs, and older looking baskets.  I don't consider myself a great player at all, but I knew that I was throwing well today.  I shot a 67 today for the 18-holes which is -3 the posted signs for the par (although I didn't see a tee sign on 9, but I'm guessing that's just a par 3).  I was pretty happy with that :)  The pin placements were in the A position.  Is that the typical spot for them or is B the typical location?

All I can say is ... WOW.  What a tough course.  There were a TON of people out there.  Yeah I could have been out at IOS #1 today, but I've only played UW-Parkside once.  I didn't want my second time playing the course to be the tournament.

I can't believe how nasty some of the curves are on these holes!  Very nice course.

Unfortunately my wife was pretty tired after the first 10 holes and just walked with me for the majority of the rest of the holes.  We also decided not to play the west course due to fatigue.  I soooo have to go back out there sometime though!!!

QuoteThe pin placements were in the A position.  Is that the typical spot for them or is B the typical location?

the majority of the year the baskets are in the either the easiest or the most visible position (october through what is supposed to be may 1st).  we ended moving them all to the 'a' position after yesterday's 10am doubles round.  they'll stay that way for a few months and then get moved to the hardest positions in june and stay that way until mid july when they get moved to the desired positions for IOS 4.  then to the 'b' position in august and back to the easiest or most visible from october on.

thanks for the props - talk to any of the locals who maintain the course and they'll all tell you they take alot of pride in anna page.  the wood chips that you noticed around the first four tees will be laid on all tees and some basket locations within the next month or so, and the GRABM club has been talking about redesigning and laying concrete on the new side - you can look for that in 2012  ;)

i dont know if it the spring time rush or what, but we have had a ton of people out there ever since it has been warmer than 45 degrees.  i think as anna page develops this summer and with the new course being added on the east side it is only going to keep them coming out, playing, and participating in our leagues and tournaments.

oh cool, so I got to use the A placements just after they were moved, neat :)  I don't think I've ever thrown so many blind drives before.  I almost completely missed where hole 8 was because after I finished 7 I saw the tee for 9 sooner than the tee for 8.  I didn't see an actual tee sign for 9 though, hopefully I still threw from the right tee?  I also noticed that the tee for hole 10 was pretty loose and kept spinning around in the wind.  I hope no one tries to be cute and take the sign.  The signs were very nice overall though.  They were descriptive enough to help me find where the baskets were at.

The only thing that bugs me is that while I threw great there yesterday, today at Oak Brook I was out there stinking it up again! ARGH!
