Normal trophies take a fairly large bite of the payout also. Figure about $2 per player out of the payout for normal trophy shop trophies.

How about a slap on the back with a good job and more plastic?  Or a cool dyed disc?

That's what you get with the 2005 IOS trophies. They are inexpensive enough that we don't have to take any money out of the payout for them. Of course, you still have to finish in the prizes to take home a cool dyed disc or whatever you buy with your brass cash.

I should have added a 4th option. I know quite a few people don't care about trophies.

No Trophy, just give me my prizes.

I understand wanting payout only no trophy. On the other hand though, not seeing myself winning a lot of events (hell, i have to play one first) It would be nice to have a little momento. I don't need an Indy 500 replica trophy with my face carved on for all of eternity. Just something to commemorate the day. Even if it were a disc that said 1st place!

The memory thing is important to me because of my brain injury.  Everyone always thinks I'm joking about having a brain injury but I really do and the main thing that is impaired is forming and accessing new long term memory.

I look at my Am Master Come Back Year trophies and I can remember bits and pieces of those events.  And my Cracked Plastic trophy, as hideously ugly as it is, has helped me remember that event.

If we did expensive things, like dyed discs mounted on wood plaques, they would cut into payouts.  We could not cover that on event profit.  The micro-basket minis and the quarter toss basket trophies are cheaply produced by child labor and we can cover those without deducting anything from the payout.

child labor, how sweet it is

anyways, at valparasio last year the trophy i got was huge, it was this piece of wood, with a basket coming out of it. pretty neat homemade piece, but the second place trophy was better, it was one of thoes circle-type-people with a disc on a stand, all wood

bad-ass

I'm all about either the original trophy idea or no trophy, just more prizes. I like the idea of the original trophy being something that can be used...like the quarter toss basket or a marked mini/disc.

Things could really cheap by purchasing frames from the Dollar Store. Make a cool looking picture and add the verbage for placement. Cost would probably be under $2 a trophy minus the artwork time.

I ran an unsanctioned cash payout for all divisions tournament in the fall of 2003.  It was an 80/120 option payout, 80% in cash or 120% in prizes.  For the trophies I put crisp uncirculated $1 bills framed under glass along with the division and place of finish.  I won one.  I took it apart and spent the money.  No one was impressed with the trophy but some were impressed with what they cost, $1.29 each.  I got the frames almost free at a garage sale.

That's a cool idea or the ones that are made without a high cost.

Maybe once I start winning trophies my thoughts will change  B)

We could buy a portable laser engraving machine and do cool acrylic or wood engraved trophies. We could even engrave the person's name on the trophy right after the tourny. The machines start at around $5,000. So, we just need one $5,000 sponsor and we're in!
