Announcing the 2005 Chicago Disc Golf Championship at Edgebrook Golf Course, Chicago, Illinois. Eligible winner* will get the Illinois State Coordinator exemption to the USDGC.

- Sunday, July 24th, 2005. Tee times will be assigned before the event.
- $15 course fee to be paid at the club house on the day of the event ($3 optional cart available on first come, first served basis).
- $2 tournament fee to offset sanctioning fees (only applicable if DX tier status approved) payable to Jon Brakel on the day of the event.
- One round of 18 holes will be played. Eligible winner* will receive the exemption to the USDGC. There will be no payout except the optional $15 birdie pool. The birdie pool will be run like an ace pool except with a graduated payout based on how many birdies are hit. Most birdies will get the largest payout, second most birdies will get second largest payout, etc. Birdie pool will payout approximately 35-40 percent of the field using standard payout tables.
- There will only be one division: Open. However, since there will be no payouts, all players (amateur and pro) that want to play for the USDGC eligibility are invited to attend.

*Eligibility requirements to win the exemption to the USDGC:
1) Must be an Illinois resident at the time of the tournament or must have submitted a residency waiver to the PDGA Illinois State Coordinator (Jon Brakel) at least two weeks prior to the tournament AND the waiver must be approved by the Illinois SC.**
2) Must e-mail Jon Brakel at jonbrakel@comcast.net by July 9th with your intent to play in this tournament. A tee time will be reserved for you at that time. Requests received AFTER July 9th will not be automatically ineligible but will be subject to tee time availability. You may also call Jon Brakel at (847) 670-1757, however e-mail is preferred. If you express your intent to play in the tournament but do not show up, you may forfeit any future eligibility for the Illinois SC exemption to the USDGC.
3) Must be an active member in good standing of the PDGA at the time of the tournament.
4) Must be willing and able to attend the USDGC including paying the entry fee, travel and housing costs, etc. The winner will win an exemption, NOT a free ticket. If the winner does not attend the USDGC he may forfeit any future eligibility for the Illinois SC exemption to the USDGC.

**Residency waivers will be issued at the discretion of the Illinois SC. Things such as volunteer efforts in Illinois and membership in local Illinois clubs will be considered.

I've posted this here, the joliet forum, the peoria forum, the rockford forum and the quad city forum. I'm going to e-mail all the TDs in Illinois about the event this weekend. Everyone should have plenty of opportunity to know about the exemption competition.

So is it your rule that you must be a resident of IL?  Or did the PDGA change something?  I know that in years past that out of state players would come and try to win the invite to the USDGC.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

The invitation rules are entirely up to each state coordinator.  The PDGA has nothing to do with it.  It is Harold Duvall's rule that it is up to each state coordinator.

It looks like Jon is saying that it is open to all Illinois residents and to non-residents on a case-by-case basis.  I did not puppeteer this so I can't speak for Jon, but it looks like he is saying if there was an Iowa resident busting his butt to make Quad City disc golf happen, or a Wisconsin guy putting in time making northern Illinois disc golf happen, or whatever, they can ask for a waiver of the residency requirement and Jon will waive it or not in his discretion.

For this event it is my rule that you must meet the eligibility requirements that are listed above. Some people might meet the eligibility requirements and not be an Illinois resident.

As far as I know the PDGA does not get involved with qualifications for the USDGC. I think that is done by the guys who run the USDGC. However, this event is not a qualifier for the USDGC but rather a way for me to give away my exemption to the USDGC. All PDGA State Coordinators are given an exemption to the USDGC by the USDGC. Wilbur, the past Illinois State Coordinator, has given his USDGC exemption to the winner of the Illinois State Championships. Most years the exemption has gone unused.

The people that I represent as the Illinois State Coordinator, that is Illinois PDGA members, have asked that I give the Illinois SC exemption to an Illinois player that will likely use the exemption. That is what I based the above eligibility requirements on.

Shawn, just out of curiosity, what does the WI SC do with his exemption?

Right. I know that many areas in disc golf overlap state borders so I didn't want to exclude someone simply because of where he hangs his hat at the end of the day. However, the people that voted for me wanted to have a USDGC exemption that was geared toward the Illinois player since Illinois has no other qualifier than the SC exemption.

That would be a question for Terry...  I believe I may have confused a quilifier event with the excemption given to each state.   The way you are going about it is fair...   Does IL have an event that is a qualifier?  Or is it just NT's that are?

Will there be a list of players that have e-mailed? Just wanted to make sure I was on the list.

Also, is it going to be sanctioned?

I think right now only Jon, Brett, Bruce and Dan are getting in on this.  There are no Illinois pros signed up for Worlds either.

The only reason I was going to sanction it was for ratings. To find out how the course played compared to ratings. We won't get a rating for four people. I can just run unofficial ratings myself.

i've heard other people mention coming to this, but now the uncertainty of the location seems to be scaring people off a bit.  maybe at rockford it should be announced at the players meeting?

People shouldn't be "talking" about going, they should be talking to me. This is not an event that you can just show up and play. I'm making a tee time reservation for 5 on Sunday morning. I'll confirm the time with the other four players that have told me they are coming.

Tee time is at 11:30am for the four people who have told me they are coming (the reservation is for 5 because I have one extra possible person). Let's plan on meeting there at about 11am.

It was hot but the 25 MPH winds kept it from being super hot. Managed to shoot a 67 +1 from the super longs (Tee box from every regular golf tee). I'm not going to Disney World but I am attending the USDGC.

We whipped around the course.  A lot of golfers must have cancelled their rounds because of the heat.

I decided to play right handed until it was no longer close.  I played the whole round right handed and tied Dan for second.  Except on two holes I drove lefty and birdied one of them.
