I always think of you as a way better player than that.  Can you give up any of you secrets for keeping your rating down?

I'm gunnin' for ya Spazz!!!!!

i hope it comes down to a sudden death playoff for the IOS title in intermediate.  Walker v. Spazzle dazzle.    doug will win as the crowd goes nuts, but later spazz will make on offer for Doug's trophy that he can't refuse and Spazz will take home the prize.

I find that the less time I have to practice the worse I get, try that see if it works for you

I was rated 940 in 2003!!!

Yeah, but wasn't that your first rated rounds ever played on your home course? ;)

Yeah, but I do think I may have been better then, or at least much more consistent.

chit....  I am the master at chokin' during pdga events..  Funny how I can play well when it doesn't matter.
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

Ok ... here's a poser for all ....

My friend and I have played tournaments now and then and it's been a friendly rivalry.  He moved to Florida in Jan. 2005 and played in one tournament.  He hasn't played an event since.  Each time ratings are given out by the PDGA his rating goes up.  Since May of 2005 until the Sept 2005 ratings were posted he's gone up 18 points.  It's too weird.  It seems that even if you don't play you can improve.

Here's a thought for the sandbaggers .... a rating of 905 in May 2005 (without playing a single event since the rating was posted)  would push the rating up to 923 in Sept 2005 (using the above as a standard) From intermediate to advanced just like that.

It's just too weird.  A new form of math perhaps??

If he has only played one event in his entire life, his rating is going up because of the changes made in the way ratings are calculated.  If he has played more than one event in his entire life it is that and older events dropping out of the calculation.

He has played events in the past but in his history all events show up as being used to calculate his rating.

It's just too weird Bruce, that's all.

They keep tweaking the system so it makes sense that people's ratings will change even when they haven't played any new tournaments. Also, mistakes are always fixed whenever they find them. If someone reported a problem with a round that he played (like wrong tees reported for the wrong divisions) it might have been fixed a year later.

So, is it safe to say that with the new ratings system the ratings are about 20 points higher on average than with the old system?  i. e.  a 900 calculated by the new system would be about an 880 in the old?

It's still annoying, though, that even though you can play 2 sanctioned rounds with 30 or 40 other people on the same courses (e.g., 1st 2 rounds in Peoria this year) that the rounds won't necessarily (in this case won't) get rated.

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

I will play Intermediate at Fairfield. I will have my act together and be on the lead card round2 with Doug and Spaz. I will call a courtesy violation on every hole simply because he is Spaz. Doug is a lock.

;)

No.  With the new system they don't automatically throw out your lowest 15% of rounds.  For some people that does not make a lot of difference but it does lower everyone's rating somewhat.  They double weight your last eight rounds.  For improving players, this will raise their rating somewhat.  They are adjusting for the pool effect at tournaments where lower divisions play in a seperate pool.  That will raise ratings for lower players somewhat.

I think it is mostly a wash.  The new ratings are slightly more weighted to what you've done recently and slightly less buggy.

the bottom line is that if you don't have several (i'd say at least 10) rounds in the database, then your rating doesn't mean all that much.  if you take anybody's worst or best tournament by itself, its quit a bit different than their average.
