If there was a 1 day club challenge vs. the Quad Cities Disc Golf Club at like Rockford or Sterling possibly this fall, would anybody here be interested in playing?

I would be up for something like this. I hear those Quad Cities guys couldn't hit the side of a barn.... Never too early to start talkin some smack....  ;D

whofarted

Those guys are having something similar going on with the Peoria club, they are callnig it the I-74 challenge.  Everybody puts in 5 bucks and the winning club gets that money for their treasury.  I think it is a great idea.

pick a date ladies, let's get this thing rollin'.

Oh and you're not supposed to hit barns while playing golf, so I guess we're doing alright in that department.

The "problem" with running it with more and more teams is how many people can play.  We have a team event in Iowa where, in the past, each area simply brings their 10 "best"...and it usually only involves 7-8 teams, so you can easily work that into the format.  With the I-74 Challenge that Wilbur and I are putting on, we can basically have everyone involved that wants to be.  Its more about having a good time with the other club (and, of course, having a little battle) than just a raw "ours team is better than your team" sort of tournament.  I think both have their place, but especially with a dual sort of challenge...it'd be better to have many (adds more to the pot), and allows more people the chance to play and be involved, otherwise its just the same touring few that'll be out playing tournaments everywhere.

Dan Michler

Just having as many involved as want to play would best suit our club.

You think WE need a ringer Chase???   :o  Who is going to putt for Mike?   :help:

just kidding!   ;D  Actually we do have a ringer.  His name is Ron Huspen and he is Brett's brother.

Yeah baby! My brother Ron & I are going to take over.  I'll let my bro "the factor" do all the work. I don't have to get better. He'll bring others down

It sounds like this might be more than just idle talk?   Do we actually want to do this...or talk about it for a while?  We have our I74 Challenge on the 25th of this month...and hopefully it'll all work out.  If that goes well, and runs smooth, when would we want to do this?  Where?  It sounds like hardly any of you have played the QC courses...want to make a weekend of it?  Make this a multi-course thing?  If its just two clubs the options are basically endless.  One of our club members is a manager at a Hotel here, I'm sure he could give a really nice rate.  Or...just meet up in Rockford or Sterling for a couple rounds?

I think it would be fun to play Rockford, make it a neutral course.  Unless we did a home and home series.

Unless we played in Kenosha or Mokena, we don't have anything closer than Rockford that compares to any of the QC courses.  :'(

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

saucriminal

Any idea what kind of dates that you folks will be looking at??  I'm not going to get the chance to play the I - 74 Challenge and would love a shot to get into this one.

Dan Michler

I think the fall would be best seeing as how the summer has a very busy tournament schedule.

Rockford would be ideal for our players.  I'm not sure what the QC players would most like.  I'm pretty much game to travel anywhere and play.

If we are going to do this, do we want to use the method of scoring we're using for the I74 Challenge?  If we DO want to do that, there are some things that I'd probably want to fix right away (I've talked to Bruce about these things).  I wouldn't want to limit participants, but I think there needs to be a MINIMUM amount in each division...otherwise, like Bruce has pointed out, a team could show up with 2 studs (if they knew they could win) and take it all.  With setting a minimum amount...we can still bring as many as we can, but it will eliminate upfront cheating.  With almost every team format there is a way to tweak it towards your advantage, but this format, if done right, I think makes it as fair as possible (and eliminates a ranking system, so no "match play" designations).

If you have questions or concerns about this format, I've emailed them to Dan and Bruce, so I have no problem emailing them to anyone else.  Thanks.  kcr@kellysmedical.com
