Well provided that Shawn doesn't need it, why not have one of our Kenosha members that will be playing in the Blast pick it up and bring it to the event? For example, I know that Myk and JoJo will be there, they live in ktown, and I'm sure they would be getting to the course early the day of to warm up and whatnot. Sounds like a perfect combination to me....

Hey now, wasn't volunteering anyone thank you very much. I was just trying to tell jim that he doesn't have to do everything himself....

Delegate, captain. Delegate. :-)

Wow. I really think we're going to have a huge turnout for this event. I hope we put on as good a tourney as people will be expecting!

Oh, I'll be at the course tomorrow sometime after 4 with weed whacker in trunk. I hope & pray that hole A has been mowed & a bridge of some sorts has been improvised. That's gonna be some quality time with the trimmer if not....

Oh, just thought I'd point out that this thread is the longest & most read in the 9 month existence of the message board.

Hey, I'm happy to provide it! :)

What an additional AWESOME piece of news! Perhaps the Callahans will see how good we have been for the course (IMHO) and add their own pressure to WPD about some of the improvements we have been requesting. Regardless, things just keep sounding better and better!

I dunno what to suggest about a spotter/ctp person. I can understand wanting one for the last two rounds when there are two CTPs on the same hole, but you think we need one for the first two?

I want to get to the course around 6 tomorrow morning to warm up and maybe throw the new holes a couple times.

To add to the question of what to bring, other than what's been mentioned already I'd say bring whatever you would want for a long day of disc golf. Of course, during the lunch break there will be time to go get more supplies such as water, beer, snacks, food....

I know the tripod chairs can be found @ walmart, maybe target, possibly Menards and/or Home Depot.

This is starting to get off topic, and I guess I'll add to that......

What about if we were to find out when WPD mows the park, pick up the flags the day before then put them back a day or two later? It will allow people to be able to better find the alternates...

Realistically, how often do you think they mow? Every 10-14 days? We could possibly work out a rotating schedule between people that could commit to taking out and replacing the flags....

Looks like Brett's emails and perhaps the flyers and/or website aregetting the word out.  We already have 4 non-members registered for the Blast - and they're from Wisconsin!  Very cool!  Thanks to all who are spreading the word!

jim

Woo-hoo! I cannot believe you emailed hundreds of disc golfers! HUNDREDS!  Wow!

Paul and I started hanging flyers up too - CLC, Shimer College, and I'll get Happy Bills, Jordy's, and a few other courses too, like Milan and Geneseo in two weeks (when I take Danny back for school).  Great work - lets start thinking of detail stuff now, like how we can clearly mark OB, measuring temp holes, CTPs, etc. We can make this year's BLAST the tourney at which people have the most fun all summer!

jim

Hey, great!  Does anyone have any colored (or just plain white) string or rope?  We'd need nearly 1000 feet.  If one of you guys wants to do that, I'll make sure you get reimbursed if necessary.

jim

Just found out that Barrett White, one of the top female pros, will be attending the Blast - as well as holding a throwing clinic during the lunch break!  She and I are working out details now....  She is also planning on bringing some other players, too. HOW COOL IS THAT???!!!  :-)

jim

If I don't hear from Kurt at Tourist by Friday, I'll seek either Ed Burde (Libertyville/Lombard) or I'll try to get a special deal with Disc Golf World.  Rick at DGW is open to helping us even more now that we are growing. Also, I found out fromm a third party that Tourist has several lawsuits pending for copyright infringement.  This might be why he hasn't communicated........

jim

I made it up to play KEnosha's league last night and had a great time. Tony and Wildflower from Chain Reaction were there and were very interested in selling at the Blast. They've got a great selection, decent prices and a bright yellow van. Gotta love it!  Tony said he'll get me an answer today.  Also emailed with Kurt at Tourist. He's trying to make major PDGA tour stops and will probably be in Pennsylvania in the middle of September.

Chain Reaction is out of Milwaukee and exposure with him can also help increase attendance.  I'm glad you got some flyers to Tom Christensen - working that way is needed too.

It looks like Jelly Belly may not be too keen on sponsorship, but we're gonna try anyway. I love the booger beans!

jim

Hey guys, this is coming together!

Mirth - nice job on da scorecards! Would it be possible to add a column for player's division, and make a seperate card for each round (says "Round 1" or "Round 4")? Lemme know. And thanks for the use of the basket!

Brett, I'm doing a new scoreboard too. Big and sweet and sturdy. Almost like I knew what I was doing. I've also started making the certificates. We'll also be able to use my basket and hopefully Chud's.  The Friday idea is a good one, I'll plan on it. Great work!

jim

Thanks, but didn't you forget something?

jim

Mirth - thanks for doing that!

When I went to the link, all I saw was ASCII test and some html coding.  So, if you have time, print out 10 scorecards for each round.  I am sure they'll look fab baby!

BTW, did you get your Gazelle out of my car?

jim

Agreed.  So be it!  But there will only be a playoff in case of ties for 1st through 5th place in Recreatonal, and 1st through 3rd in each Competitive division.

jim

I spoke with Mike briefly yesterday and he said he'd tell is maintenance crew to do it before the Blast. I am meeting with him next week sometime (waiting for a callback on exacts).

However, we can do some work as well. We will need a bridge. We need to do some general cleanup of large branches and perhaps fill in a couple large holes that I remember falling into.  There's also still a few discs back there from the Widdershins.

I will be out at Bevier sometime Saturday to take a deeper look at what needs. Yes, keep the 8th scheduled for the most work.  Gotta get those bees outta there as well.  Da sooner da better!

THANKS Brett and Mirth and Bill and everyone who wants to help!

jim

Well, I believe 29 have pre-registered electronically as of 9-5-02.  Looks like a good field.  I think the Competitive Women should play the 4 rounds with the other Competitive players.  But even though all Comp Women are playing together, I have not divided it up into Pro/Adv/Am because that would leave one women per div.  Can't do that.  I suggest we simply give Comp Women a handicap system (Pro=0, Adv=1, Am=2) and still have them play against each other.  Any word on BC's or Jojo's beter halves?  I really think the women will have the most fun out there!

Regarding yesterday's meeting with Mike Trigg:

It went very well!  He committed to spruce up as usual with the crushed limestone skirts on the baskets, low-cut mowing, etc. He also will take care of the hornets' nest near the 9th hole (which I sat on last night and came away unscathed, thanks to Bill).

He will also get his crew to mow under the power lines and put a temp bridge over the creek back there.

He will also loan us the big WPD tent again.  If we get bad weather, he will give us use of the building (field house) unless it is booked. Stop laughing, Conover!  He will get back to be whether they can spare any bark chips for the wooded tees. If so, he'll provide whatever he can on next Friday.

He said he has been visiting the website occasionally and loves how active we are.  I filled him in on the Round Lake and Gurnee and Kenosha happenings and his jaw dropped!  He has a meeting with the WPD Board of Directors next week and is going to let them know how much we have going on and how many positive emails he has received about disc golf this summer.

Mike asked us for our 2003 schedule before November. He wants to give us priority scheduling before the soccer league(s) start hounding him.  We are easier to work with and receive no complaints, unlike the soccer folks.  Let's meet a week after the Blast and get a lineup going!

Other stuff is coming together too.  I am almost done with the scoreboard.  We are added 4 CTPs, one per round, for the minidisc bottle openers. Rick at DGW may also send us some bonus stuff next week. With Brett and Bill and ??? cleaning out the wooded holes with their whackers, the course will sparkle!

I am very excited about this event - moreso than ever before!!!

WHAT WE STILL NEED:  We need someone to help out at the front table from 11am-4pm.  We also need at least 2 spotters - one for the temp hole under the power lines, and one for the CTP hole(s).

I also need someone to ut up road signs, directing drivers to Bevier.  I have signs made.  In the past, I have stapled/nailed them to telephone poles and / or taped them to other metal objects; one on GreenBay, north of Grand Ave (going north); one on GreenBay north of Yorkhouse (going south); the same for Lewis Ave and even maybe at the Grand Ave exits off Route 41.  Please volunteer.

Tomorrow, I will post the food roster as it stands so far.  We may still need some food stuffs.

All in all, we are doing well!  THANKS to all those who have signed up and/or are volunteering in any capacity!

jim

Tony said they'd prob be there @10am.  I will call him and try to convince him to arrive earlier, since it would be in his best interest.  Thanks for the input.
