I tossed my green Champ Orc with a Quad Cities stamp on it right into the pond at Madison Meadows today.  It was floating but way out in the middle and I didnt feel like waiting around for it to inch towards the shore.  Got my name and number on it.

Dude, someone has that disc up for sale on eBay.  I could make out the first and last name, and first thought would be to come here!  Quad City logo, picture of a wizard on it.

Sorry that someone from my group didn't find it before this guy!  Maybe you can find him when he's out walking his dogs.

Let me know if you can't load up that link.  The eBay auction # is 7224682828.  The auction ends on March 13th.

He's right. I could make out a phone # with my skills.  :P I wont say it, but if it starts with an area code (708) and your last name is Schlaak or something (My skills need honed  ;D ) Then its yours and I would contact that person if I were you.

lol, he dropped the opening bid price to $10 now for the 3 discs.  It was at $15.  I wonder if he's going to try to pull a "finders keepers" on it instead of properly giving it back when contacted.

I'm guessing he doesn't play DG anyhow.

What hole did you lose it on?  It's probably gone by now, but you never know... I'll keep an extra eye out for that one the next time we go out.  With all this rain maybe it will be washed to a new location that will be easier to find ;)

thanks, but nah. It was #6 (I think...the long left-to-right one.) I swore I saw it land the day I lost it and looked a week or so later after a thaw and it wasn't there.

yeah, people that live around there might find those pretty easily since it's right next to a line of houses.  I love that hole (since I'm a leftie :) )  I don't get to play that one too often though because I go with coworkers at lunch time (15-20 minute drive each way), and so we do an abbreviated 11-hole version of the course from 1-4, and 13-19.  We found a busted up Pegasus on 13 a couple weeks ago, but left the disc there since I doube anyone is going to miss a Pegasus with a huge chunk missing from it.

This is hilarious.  My phone number is pretty clearly visible on that disc.  I sent the guy an email.  My favorite part is the guy's two faggy dogs posing with my disc in the first picture.  I'll bet this guy is a 35 year old virgin and lives with his mom.

my email:

I have a question... Why didnt you call the phone number that is CLEARLY printed on the bottom of the wizard disc? It is a common courtesy to return lost discs to their rightful owners if they care enough to put their contact info on the disc. I have returned several lost discs, and had several returned to me (and there is almost always a reward). Posting it on ebay with a phone number clearly visible to anyone who loads the high-res image is flat out wrong.

his response:

I found that disc on a Sunday Morning [2 weeks ago]-- I was with 3 Friends- Bob, Maurice, and Richard-- so the story is the TRUTH- ask them yourself next Sunday 7:30 a.m-- we will all be there. We were there walking our dogs. That disc was floating on the water surface near a large willow tree [about 7 feet out]-- I felt it was abandoned by its owner since he could NOT or was UNWILLING to retieve it from the WATER-- if it was THAT VALUABLE to me- I WOULD HAVE GONE IN THE WATER TO RETRIEVE IT. I searched for a branch to use as a tool. After several failed attempts I succeeded in retrieving it-- if I succeeded the owner could have if they wanted it bad enough-- SO... THE DISC WAS ABANDONED !!! [or possibly the owner is afraid of water- in which case they could have returned with a pole of some sort to retrieve it-- SO IT WAS ABANDONED !!!!!!!!!]

Apparently he hasnt put 2 and 2 together that "mschlaak" is inquiring about the disc that says "Mike Schlaak" on it.

lol, I love that just because he mentioned 3 friends that the story is the truth.  It sounds more like this guy is maybe 13 or 14.  Tempting to bid up on the auction and then not pay, but I don't want to eat a negative on my account.

That's just rediculous lol.  Hope you weren't too attached to that disc.

I see that your question ie why didn't he call you, was posted on ebay.  This should alert most bidders to  the kind of scumbag they have for a seller.  If you don't want to ruin your ebay rep by making bogus bids why don't you moniter the auction...contact each new high bidder and send them selections from this thread...ask them to withdraw their bid...cc the seller on the communication...continue the hassle...the disc will have outlived its value in the grief you can give this guy.  Also, now that you know he walks his dog at MM every day...chose your actions appropriately and with common sense.  Don't be stupider than he was. Maybe wait for a nice day to put water balloons in your bag.

Just remember there is a fine line between mischevious protest and criminal response. >:D

No responses from bidders.  Doubt they really care.  I wouldnt.  I think I might take this guy up on his offer and meet him, Bob, Richard, Maurice, Kimberly, ChinChin and Macy, Sunday morning.  I didnt really think about it, but I lost the disc sunday afternoon at like 5...  The guy says he found it 2 weeks ago on sunday morning.  He found it monday morning for sure, and had it posted on ebay within like 4 hours.  What a douche.  I'd just like to see his reaction if I actually showed up.

You know, both of those questions and responses that were emailed to him were posted up on the auction too lol.  Very entertaining.  The 3 discs sold for $15 or $16.  Hope Denny's has some specials going on if he and his friend were going to go buy lunch using the profits from the sale heh.

oye.

Trust me, there were plenty of emails that didnt make it onto the auction page.  The second one posted was from someone in my office who saw me looking at it during work.  Apparently the owner of the other "autographed" disc was emailing him too.

Does anyone else find it strange that this guy sites e-bay rules but doesn't even look at Illinois law:

(765 ILCS 1020/35) (from Ch. 50, par. 35)
Sec. 35. Except as otherwise provided in this Act, whoever sells, trades, destroys, or in any way disposes of any estray or other property taken up or any property found, or takes or sends the same out of this state, for any purpose whatever, before the time limited by this Act for the vesting of ownership in the finder or taker‑up, shall pay double the value of such property, to be recovered in the circuit court in the name of the owner.

After seeing the whole gang, including "the girls," trooping around the park on Saturday morning, I think these fellas would enjoy a viewing of Brokeback Mountain more than a trip to Denny's. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I'm pretty close with the QC club, so I'll look into finding a replacement for you. Again, sorry about your loss. If this guy is part Jacques Costeau, I'll probably be bothered when he lists the Orc I sunk in the middle of the lake off of 19's long tee.

grumble grumble hole 19.  I still can't get under a 6 on that thing.  Only once have I had a decent par shot on that hole, but the same wind that helped me have an awesome drive helped me have my disc absolutely sail completely above and beyond the basket.  It was maybe a 10-15' putt and it missed by a ton.  Terrible.

My group has lost a Cheetah, a Leopard, and an Ace to that pond.  Leopard and Ace were due to wind, and I think the Cheetah just faded right into the pond off hole 3 from a LHBH throw.

I wonder how deep that pond is.  There's probably a LOT of discs down there.

I have to post the other question and answer that was posted to the auction.  It's hilarious:

Q: Your arguments concerning -abandoned- property aside, did you ever think that perhaps the decent thing to do when finding another's property would be to make every attempt possible to reaqaint it with its rightful owner? I mean, if the man has a name and phone number on the item, I think it's reasonable to expect that the finder give the man a call. You know, the kind of courtesy a human being would extend to another.

A: You do not know the entire series of events (communications); and, without all of the information-- you should not rush to judgement. When I posted the discs on Ebay- I didn't even see the number (I WEAR READING GLASSES & on my monitor it didn't show). After the auction had already received a bid-- the owner contacted me. I communicated to that person; I would of course cancel the auction, meet, & return the disc; BUT... since there was a bid already- it is against Ebay Policy to cancel an ongoing auction. I OFFERED TO LET THE OWNER BID ON HIS DISC-- AND, IF HE WON THE AUCTION-- I WOULD SHIP FREE AND; FURTHERMORE, GIVE HIM 1ST DIBS ON ANY OTHER I FOUND THIS SPRING/SUMMER. HE NEVER ACKNOWLEGED MY OFFER FOR A FAIR RESOLUTION; NOR OFFERED AN ALTERNATIVE--- CONSEQUENTLY-- HE ABANDONED THE DISC A 2ND TIME !!! I HAVE THE EMAILS AS PROOF!!! 3 ALMOST NEW DISCS FOR $15.00 IS A DEAL. So.. THAT IS THE WHOLE STORY. By the way- I'm almost a Senior Citizen; YET--it was a FUN CHALLENGE TO RETRIEVE THE DISC FROM THE POND.

Ok, the first email was posted onto the eBay auction on March 9th.  That means the seller replied on the 9th.  That email was from the owner (who we all know is Mike).  The first bid came in on the 10th.  lol.  The other funny thing is that he said he wore his reading glasses and couldn't see the number on the monitor (now keep in mind that I was able to read the name and most of the number on the disc which is why I contacted Mike about finding the disc on ebay in the first place), but my thought is, "ok mr. seller, what's preventing you from using your reading glasses and looking at the bottom of the ACTUAL DISC instead of looking at the monitor?" hahaha.

Somedays I just don't understand people.
