In the worst parts, people say there can be as many as 1.5 MILLION PER ACRE!!!!! freaky stuff.  In the morning in downers, it's like you hear impending doom.  It's not loud where you are but you hear a dull roar farther away, like a tank  you can hear a few hundred yards away but can't see.  They're comin to get ya.

we'll be at westchester today... which is a walk in the park compared to the complexity of Oak Brook.  At least hole 2 is pretty good there, tough to birdie unless you can find a good route over the trees or make a good run down the creek.  Sometimes going under the low hanging tree works too.

Yeah, it kinda sucks when they land on your face when you're trying to drive.  I played there for the second time recently and I've got to say, it's definitely the best/hardest/most well mixed 9 holer in Northern Il.  I really enjoy this course a lot.  A lot has been said lately of the lack of good courses, but I think this is one of the exceptions, Cicadas or not.  ;)

Reviving the thread - last report was that they are working on extending the length of all of the teepads along with doing some other work around the tees.

Kinda funny going back to the beginning of this thread - it was before I started selling merch, my name was Stpitner back then to Brett... actually it was before I even played in a sanctioned tournament.  Almost 3 years now for Paper or Plastic Sports - time flies (with a little hyzer) :)

They have put wood sunken wood frames filled with gravel around the existing rubberpads.  For some it is all the way around, for others only in front where people tend to step off.  In addition, there is now a gravel circle around the baskets, slows down discs but may wear out my soft putter quickly.  They also painted the tee posts.  Wet paint signs would have been a good idea though.

Played this course this past weekend while visiting from Pittsburgh. Very nice little course, though the pars are very genorous.Still technical and scenic. Except for #6,should be par 4,maybe, all others should be par 3. I finish with a 29. Looking foward to coming back

Next time you are in town check out the league thread and join us for leagues.

Tom - you hit up the leagues at Oak Brook? or just talking about the Discontinuum leagues?

I still enjoy Oak Brook - I think the best I've shot there is a 27, and that's only once out of the 100+ times playing it.  They added some loose rocks around a lot of the teepads, added some rock right around the basket along with some woodchips near the basket in some trouble spots.  I keep hoping they'll add more woodchips than usual on the walkway from 6-7.  The tree that fell in between the walk from 7 to 8 is finally all cleared up and looks nice.  I wish they didn't open up 8 as much as they did, it's a lot easier to hit the gap now.  I birdie that one regularly.  I'd love to see some new holes added after 3 across the walking path - no idea if that will ever happen though.

Oak Brook course is Great!!!  Shot a 34 my first time out there, Plenty of trees and some tall grassy areas but very nice. They do have a map right at Tee 1  all signs are up with hole number, Par and feet to basket... with a picture map from tee to basket. Garbage cans. When you get to the park, Drive all the way in the back parking lots,  sign and tee 1 is on your left.

Please reach out to the Oakbrook Park district (website, twitter, in person) and let them know how much it would mean to you if they expanded the course to an 18 hole course.  Please remind them what an outstanding job they do maintaining it and how much you appreciate it.  Feel free to throw out words such as championship caliber, the best course in the area, potential to have the best 18 hole course in Chicagoland, etc.

Also, If you are out at the course, please clean up after yourselves and others.  It has been a hot topic with the people at the park district.  They are not a fan of seeing the litter and the beer bottles in the garbage cans.  Please be respectful to what they posted on the signs and the park district people as well.  We, as a disc golf community, is what is going to make or break this.   A little help will go a long way.

Thanks,
David
