I saw "The Bank Job" with Jason Statham last night. Pretty decent English crime flick that kinda follows the Guy Ritchie formula of solving multiple antagonistic groups

watched Vantage Point last night, i thought it was pretty good. if you like the crime solving, multi veiw kind of movie you'll like this. its about an assassination plot of the us president in spain and how different people involved and not involved view and take part in the situation. keeps you interested till the end.

Hopefully better than Nick Cage's "Snake Eyes" of a few years back? (would been better with someone other than Cage IMHO)

way better than snake eyes, seems like they put more time into it and they play out everyones perspective not just having them rethink it

While at the hotel room prepping for the tournament over the weekend, The Quick and the Dead came on whatever channel I was watching.  So I watched it out of the corner of my eye mainly because I saw some good names of actors in the movie when it started.  The exception to that list turned out to be Sharon Stone - and she was one of the main characters.  I didn't like her performance at all, but Russell Crowe and Gene Hackman did a fine job.  I probably should have turned it off when I saw that DiCaprio was in it, but it was a movie that helped me pass the time.

Cool, gotta check it out

I rented "Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay" today and while the 1st had a few laughs, this just tried to recycle them. Nothing new and I want my $1 back from Redbox.

P.S. Did my usual IMDB.com check of the trivia for this movie post watching, as this tidbit is usueful while not a poiler in any way:

According to Hollywood Reporter(4/27/2008 issue), Warner Bros' distribution president Dan Fellman said this movie was originally produced as a straight-to-video movie until a decision was made to release it theatrically.

Quantum of Solace

Note Spoiler Alert

Not the best Bond movie, not the worst. Absolutely the worst title.  Great action, but not enough Bond. The great theme was not played until the closing credits. No cool gadgets. No cool evil vilian lair. No cool chick names or evil vilian names. There was a nice homage to Goldfinger. Minimal cool banter.

Perhaps this appeals to a younger audience but I like my Bond, to be more suave and not so gritty. I will go see Bourne and Transporter films, but I don't want Bond to become Bourne.

The best part of the film is Daniel Craig, he has the same menace that Sean Connery had, but not the sense of humor. Title song by Jack White and Alicia Keys. It ranks near the middle of Bond songs. Top 3 are Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, and Nobody Does it Better.

Whew! Hard to post & not read the spoiler above, thanks for the warning though Tom!!

I rented Hellboy 2 the other night. Visually very stunning as we've all come to expect from del Toro, but the story sucked

I watched The 'Burbs for the first time the other night - Tom Hanks movie from '89.  A LOT funnier than I expected it to be.  Typically in a movie when a character is going to do some extremely stupid stunt I just shake my head and groan and want to watch something else (eg. American Pie).  This movie was different with the stupid stuff though - you'd think "why in the world are you doing that?" but at the same time you want to think they need to do that!  Very well done imo.

Also this past week I watched Happy Feet - ok, but not in my fav's for CG.  Nice to have Robin Williams in it, but it wasn't enough.  It was much better than the other CG film that I watched though - Barnyard.  It was one of my least fav CG movies to date - with poorly done animation on a few things (especially with the water in one scene).  I'm glad I was multi-tasking and listing discs online while watching that one!

How have you never seen the Burbs?  I swear that movie was on like 10 times a week on TBS when I was 14.  The Burbs, Brewster's Millions, Stripes, and Changing Places were all in extra heavy rotation I recall.

I'm going to pretend Pitner didn't just give us a review of the movie Happy Feet.  Thats absolutely uncalled for.

I'm surprised that I never caught the Burbs on the rotation.  I see all the other typical Tom Hanks movies airing all the time.

What's wrong with CG movies?  I really enjoy the Pixar movies.  There once was a time where I would have loved to go into CG animation - work with creating the 3-D molds and all that... too far removed from drawing and graphics to get back into it now though.

I have not seen Happy Feet other than noticing annimated penguins crossing my screen while channel surfing. However, I have to agree with Scott on Pixar.  My wife and I went to see Wall- E and were the only adults in the theater without urchins in tow.  We both loved the movie. I thought the lonliness that he felt had a lot of the feeling of some classic sci fi, especially Asimov's Robot books. I was a big fan of all the Toy Story movies.  If David Lynch can make a great G rated movie  (The Straight Story)we can enjoy them and discuss them.  Also, we have to give Scott a break.  He is going to be watching a lot of G rated movies, some of them awful, over the next few years.  Scott, I have a box of classic Disney in VHS format.  Any interest?

mirth

I'm trying to avoid investing in a G rated collection of films for my brood by downloading.

Be happy to provide a review of Tinker Bell or The Little Mermaid 3: Ariel's Beginning, however I think Dan's head may explode...
Don't forget your towel!

Most of the movies we watch over here are Disney or Pixar. With three girls, I have seen a lot of movies with Disney princesses in them.

I'd agree on Wall-E. It had classic sci-fi written all over it. Happy feet was just a tad over the top on the environmentalism.

I've had to watch many hours of children's television/movies as well, but the day I watch a movie like Happy Feet and say 'hey that wasn't that bad' will be the day I turn in my discs for a pair of ice skates.

For those that think I'm being hard on Scott, click on 'view trailer' and tell me you want to watch 90 minutes of that.

lol, that trailer was terrible!  It made it look like the entire movie was a dance musical or something.  Granted the majority of the movies I watch while I'm trying to do something else - like list discs (unless it's a movie I really want to see, I can't stand sitting for 2 hours and just watching - have to multi-task!)

My current Netflix 5 : Pirates 3, Man of the Year, Final Fantasy VII (I want to see the CG even though I've heard the plot was terrible), The Pursuit of Happiness, and Ant Bully.  And because it's free rentals at the library and you get them for a week I picked up the new Indiana Jones movie, Evan Almighty, and some Thundercats episodes (SNARF!)  Maybe I'll just spare the thread of all the reviews :P
