Inglorious Basterds is OK but is neither Tarantino or Pitt's top work

Terminator Salvation had a few OK action sequences but otherwise irrelevant, Sam Worthington stood out though

Glad Dave is recommending Avatar is 3d, going to see it Friday

Agree with Dan about Jeremiah Johnson, also saw this recently. Hope Dan can grow that beard 'cause I sure can't  ;D

I saw Avatar the other day and thought it was awsome.  4 out of 5 stars from me.

I have recently seen two very good movies.  The first is Whatever Doesn't Kill You with Mark Ruffalo and Ethan Hawke.  A good story about two lowlife buddies in South Boston.  I went in with zero expectations, and it turned out to be a very good film.

The second movie is World's Greatest Dad with Robin Williams.  Again no expectations and I was pleasantly surprised.  It is written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait.  About a father with a complete lowlife son. There are some very good scenes in this movie.  A rental bonus.

Sandra Bullock at her best. Heck Tim McGraw was even good in this film.  A go to see movie for any football fan. If you are squeamish, they do show Joe Theisman's broken leg in the very beginning, in slow mo, and close up, so you may want to look away.

Thumbs up!

Replying to this post from Dan:
With regard to Tom's top 30 list:  (shouldn't there be a better name for the decade than the 2000's?)

Best movie of the Decade:  Gran Torino

Elf?  Really Tom?

I agree with many of the movies on your list, but my list would also include:

Meet the Parents
Bad Santa
Blood Diamond
Dark Knight and Batman Begins (they are both clearly better than Iron Man)
District 9
Hotel Rwanda
Crash
Shaun of the Dead
Fracture
Dodgeball
Catch Me if You Can
40 Year Old Virgin
Almost Famous
Mystic River
A Beautiful Mind

and from your list:

Training Day
Hangover
Gran Torino
Old School
Wedding Crashers
Super Troopers
The Departed
Anchorman
Superbad
Gladiator
Crouching Tiger
The Prestige
No Country for Old Men
Death Proof
Harold and Kumar

On a sidenote I watched Jeremiah Johnson for the first time Sunday night and decided this is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.  Because he's a goddam mountain man.  Jeremiah would not include the movie 'Elf' on his list Tom.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and when it comes to movies, that is what we are doing, forming opinions. One movie is not better than another, we just like it more or less.  I guess what I am trying to say in a nice way is your opinion regarding Dodgeball is horrible, horrendous, and just plan ridiculous. Dodgeball? Why not include Zoolander or Starsky and Hutch?  Or even Brokeback Mountain?  Brother.

Besides your inflamatory comment about Ironman and the two Batman movies, you put together a nice list.  I will have to check out District 9 and Shaun of the Dead.

Just watched Avatar.  Pretty sweet movie.  We happened to see it in 3D, but I don't think it really would make a difference in my opinion if I watched it 2D.  Pretty non-stop action from start to finish.  I didn't really feel the 2 hr 45 min like I usually would.

I just watched it in 3D yesterday too! Wow, what a movie. Probably seemed so amazing because of all the terrible movies I have been watching lately, but also because it was amazing.

I'm suprised none of you guys through in the movie "300" as a good one from this decade. I guess it could kinda get boring after a while with all the blood and lloud blasts the whole movie.

Tom McManus

I still have not gone to see Avatar.  But I did see The Hurt Locker.  It is a very good movie.  Kathryn Bigelow who directed this film also directed Point Break, a good action movie, and Near Dark.  Near Dark is one of my all time favorites.

One of the things that I liked about The Hurt Locker is that the film did not have any big stars in the lead roles.  Without stars it minimizes the expectations that you have about the characters.  This really added to the film.  Overall a very good movie.

I saw Avatar in 3d last night.  This movie is strongly recommended.  Do not bother going unless you see it in 3d.  This movie is visually stunning..... It reminded me a bit of Ferngully, an animated pro environmental movie that came out years ago.

I said Ferngully, Jon says Pocahontas.

I saw District 9 this weekend.  Very interesting Sci fi movie. Started off a little slow but turned into a very good movie.

Tom,
We saw "District 9" this weekend too. Really liked that one.
Saw "Crazy Heart" last week. Appreciated a $10 million movie with no special effects and no over-the-top plot twists that was a good story, well told. Not a fan of country music per se, but T-Bone Burnett can write.

I am really looking forward to Crazy Heart. Jeff Bridges is always good. Also saw another Sci-fi movie: Moon.  It was kind of a cross between Silent Running, 2001 Space Odyssey, and Surrogates.- Maybe throw in a little Fight Club.  Overall it was a very interesting movie.

I saw District 9 tonight. Wow, that was a very good movie. At first, the protagonist seemed like a complete doofus. He reminded me of the band manager in Flight of the Conchords. I will not say anything to spoil the plot. See this movie.
