Any rumors for new courses out near Crystal Lake?

Anybody heard any rumors about any new courses that might go in near Crystal Lake?  I haven't heard of any, but there are so many people at Lippold every day that I go out there I think it would be a great idea to get a new course in that area (maybe further south like Algonquin or even Carpentersville or West Dundee).  The course at the middle school is rediculously short and easy (hole 6 at the middle school is easier than the new hole #4 at Lippold - it's a 120' straight, wide open shot).

Just curious if there are any plans for out there because there are plenty of players, just not enough courses.  The next closest course to Crystal Lake is in Round Lake at Fairfield (13 miles).

Thanks,
Scott

Get together with some motivated like minded individuals like yourself put together a plan and get a new course in the ground.

I'm thinking north side...maybe even in Veteran Acres.  just imagine a course winding its way through the woods and the trails back there...it would potentially rock the house.

I'd be up for a letter-writing campaign.

V.A. looks awesome, until you account for all the peope that use the park.  If you think Lippoldt if bad with walkers and people not paying attention, VA would be worse.  However, it is the best land Crystal Lake has to offer.

Brand new to the site, but I just would like to say that I'm all for another course. I live in Algonquin now. I'd be willing to do whatever need be in order to get another course in the area...

If you look at a map of the area parks, there is nowhere around c.l. to put a course. most of the available parks are to small even for a 9 hole. plus with all the @#$% that has happened out at lippold recently; the attempt to steal hole 3's basket, destruction of course. there were some parks in woodstock that i checked out awhile back but they didn't really look like a good course could be made out of them. mchenry area looks like there are some potential parks but i haven't gone out there to check them out.

VA/ sterns woods wood make for some amazing courses (maybe organize a temp course for a tourney), there are definitly some areas that there is almost no traffic in. someone might want to actually go out there and record the amount of traffic that goes through different areas of the park in the course of a week.

is it legal to put a course in at a forest perserve?? or state parks?? there are some great places then; glaciacl prak, fox river forest perserve, lakewood f.p., spring hills f.p., moraine hills state park, spring lake f.p. and others

*shakes fists at barrington hills*  man, you know how many AWESOME courses could be laid out in Barrington Hills?  I doubt they would EVER allow a course though lol.  The elevation changes there would be great (hence the "hills" part), and there are trees a-plenty.  Ah well.

I think it would be good to perhaps look more southward, maybe Algonquin or even down in Elgin.  there's some open areas in elgin, but they might be very prone to vandalism.

I doubt this would happen, but there's some good land back behind where I go to church.  I think it's mostly open though, so it might not be a great location for disc golf.  They are going to install an indoor skateboard park for the youth group soon... would be neat if I could get them to install a DG course by the building too... But like I said, I think it's mostly just flatland (typical Illinois) and I don't know who owns that particular portion of land.

get them some jesus dyed discs and i bet it would help smooth the process.

the problem with going south is the land value is a great deal higher there. i don't know if you ever been to glacial park but its huge and there is very little people traffic there. its got hills and woods. to me that seems like the best chance around here.

I know I already started another thread but I'm a newbie and figured I reply to this thread.  After all, not everyone knows where Gilberts is.  Gilberts is off Randall Rd just south of Carptentersville (Randall and Rt 72).  And the Gilberts parks committee is tyring to get a disc golf course. http://discontinuum.org/forums/index.php/topic,2623.0.html

I emailed the MCCD the other day and they sent my an email back and said this " Currently the district does have a partial course at the Fel-Pro site in Crystal Lake. Our best recommendation is to contact the local park district to see if they are receptive to such a course"

I did a quick search and found this http://www.triplerdaycamp.org/2006brochure.pdf Check out page 2.  Apparently they have disc golf at the Triple R Day camp ::).... LOL

Are they talking about this (http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=2232) course? It's just on the other side of 31 at Hanna Beardsley Middle School.

If so, it's pretty weak.

pato513

No, this is a 3rd course.  And seeing as how it is part of a kid's day camp, I suspect it is even weaker than the one at Hanna Bearsley.

Since smyith said he went by and didn't see anything, I wonder if they are portable targets they just setup for the daycamp...

Hey HBMS is actually alot of fun when played with just a putter or on windier days a putter and a mid. also if you just tee off from harder locations it becomes more interesting. and play backwards/foreward from basket to basket.
hole 1 play from the concret area by the picnic bench.
hole 2 - on the side walk by the sign
hole 3 - by the sewer outlet in front of the large window/ from the sidewalk by the road
hole 4 - about 30' behind the post in the ditch
hole 5 - from hole 4's basket
hole 6 - from hole 5's tee
hole 7 - standard tee
hole 8 - by the wood bleachers or the shot put circle
hole 9 - end of sidewalk by aux parking lot
thats where we play from most of the time.

most of those alternate tees are pretty self-explanatory, especially once you see the course.  Hole 6 is all of what, 110 feet wide open shot?  It's a waste of a good basket.  I definitely like the idea of moving 3 and 4's tee permanently to avoid injury to left-handed people.  My wife hit the school building pretty hard with her hand.  I've avoided it pretty well so far.

got an email the other day from the cary park district.

At this time the Cary Park District does not have a disc golf course nor is planning to build one in the near future.  The Park District is however in the process of putting together a Master Plan.  I recommend writing a letter for Master Plan consideration stating your support for this type of activity.  This can be sent to Steve Cherveny, Executive Director, Cary Park District, 255 Briargate Road, Cary, IL 60013.  _Expression of community interest is the starting point for future consideration.

Feel free to call me at (847) 639-6100 ext.105 with any questions or comments.

Thank you for your input and support.
