Prereg safety net?

Yesterday at Bevier a few of us were discussing preregistering for IOS events and discussed the following... 

Pro-  a desire to preregister and secure a spot. Also, its good for the club and the series to show a strong prereg.  Further, it makes registration on the day of event easier.   

Con- rainy, snowy, generally crappy day or schedule screw up in one's personal life.  Nobody wants to forfeit the fee.

Solution? - preregister trophy only and you are only out $14 if for some reason you don't want to go or just can't make it (and don't call in advance--yes, yes, I am aware you can avoid forfeit by contacting the TD's beforehand).  You secure a spot for a $14 guarantee rather than $23,$35 or $45.

Question? - If one preregisters trophy only can he or she come to the day of event and pay the balance for a regular registration?

This is our pre-reg refund policy from www.brasscash.com:

Refund Policy: If the TD is contacted Friday or before the event weekend, the pre-registered players money will be held and can be used at any of the IOS events left in 2006. If the player does not attend any other 2006 IOS event, the money will be used in the prize pool at the final event. If the TD is not contacted by the Friday before the event, the money will be added to the prize pool that weekend.

In the past we've always allowed players to change divisions on the day of the event if they were eligible and they changed before registration closed.  If you are going to pre-reg for trophy-only and then upgrade, look to do it at a time when registration is not really busy.

What Bruce said plus...We are trying to streamline registration. Do what you need to do to secure a spot in the tournament but when you want to switch divisions or TO/normal payout please be courteous and helpful.
