Preregistrations have already started to come in for this event. I'll start getting them on PDGA in the next week or so. It's never to early to save your spot. Last year we had 140 players over 2 days. With the recent explosion of attendance across the midwest, please save your spot.

$340.00 is rolling over to start the Ace Pool at Lombard!!!

Sorry Steve Meizener who hit an ace the 2nd round at Parkside.

Had lots of fun at IOS #1 this weekend and I was wondering if there was anyway to have a side bet on a putting or longest drive contest? or play a game of ring of fire?

I think it would be a lot of fun to have some side games. We would need a volunteer to organize it and run it. For a jumbo toss, that person would also have to raise funds or get donated prizes. Jumbo toss prizes can't be reported to the PDGA as prizes so if we took prizes out of the process we might not make our mandatory tier prize payout minimums.

We did some jumbo tosses at the original Illinois Open in 2003.  I can't remember where the stuff came from or why we did not do it as CTPs.  They were consolation prizes for the ace pool throw off.  It was ace to win the pot or CTP to win the crappy disc, on every throw.  Maybe we had some yummy pies donated by Diana, too.

At Club Kensington leagues back in 2001 and 2002 I used to offer $1 jumbo tosses that would work like this:  I'd define the throwing line and have everyone stay two steps back.  I'd announce the item, "This awesome dyed Z-XS!" and the people who wanted in would step up to the line with a dollar.  I'd run down the line collecting the dollars, and if there were too many dollars in, I'd announce a prize for second closest.  Then it was "1, 2, 3, Throw!"

At IOS events I am always fully occupied during times when a dollar jumbo toss could be a useful diversion.  I could trust this game to a volunteer, but you really need to have a bit of huckster in you to pull something like this off.  Once we get the brass sidebet game going, I might have an idea for a jumbo toss side game.  But I would need a volunteer to run it.

This is my favorite jumbo toss memory.  We were out at Willow Brook Country Club for one of our golf course events.  We had a bunch of consolation prizes for losers in the ace pool throw off, including a pie made by Diana.  Todd Branch won the last consolation prize and it was either going to be a pie or a disc depending on what the next to last guy took.  Back when Todd, Al, Sue and Dave were the Winnie Crew Diana and I used to meet them at midwest tour stops sometimes and bring them homemade pies pies and breads.  So this guy is agonizing and Todd is yelling, "Take the disc! Take the disc!"  The guy takes the disc and Todd yells, "YESSSSS!!!!!"

1st preregistrations for IOS #2 have been uploaded on the PDGA Tour Page.

If you plan on playing please preregister. We cannot thank those players enough that preregistered for IOS #1. About 160 of 203 players preregistered. That saves a lot of time and frustration for both players & TD's.

Parkside

2006-> 203 players

Lombard

You've been eligible to play Am Masters all year long.  You are eleigible the entire year starting the year you turn 40.

Am Masters is the most fun division, but there are a lot of good IOS players in that division too:  Adrian Sr., Tom McManus, Elliott Fu, Jim Bassett, to name some.  KVN played up at IOS #1, but he might come back.  I don't know.  When he's relaxed and having fun, he's really good.

on the topic of side games:
i think that side games should be just that, they should be done on the side like during the lunch break or something.  even though you guys do a great a job with running the awards ceremony quickly and getting everyone on the road at a reasonable hour i feel like side games would just be more, unneccesary, work for you guys.

I just got a crazy deal from Erich at Discraft.  :-*  I hope they don't go bankrupt on what Erich is doing.

For the first 30 players at IOS #2 who want the Discraft Player Pack, it is a tournament stamped ESP Surge and the stock stamped Pro D disc of your choice.  I'm going to see if I can get this up to 25 each day.  I would like as many Innova-only players as possible to be saying, "What the hell was that?!" at IOS #2.    O0

The ESP Surge is awesome.  With Adrian and Elliot as my witness, I out drove holes 6 Long and 7 Long at IOS #1 with a Surge.  It is like a Star Wraith except they will be marked 12 instead of 18!  12!!!

Is that going to be an am only players pack?

badger1190

is that for the first 30 pre registered or the first 30 to actually be at the course?
a trophy only advanced gets a surge and d-disc for 14 dollars?

I think that's a very smart move by Discraft.  Take a slight hit early on, hope that the player gets hooked, and then reap the benefits later when the player wants to buy more discraft.  Sure the numbers don't look pretty at first, but they hope that people that only throw Innova or something other than a discraft disc will finally realize that Discraft has some pretty sweet stuff!

O.k., I can confirm that I can do 25 Throw Discraft player packs each day.  Each one will be a tournament stamped Hot Rags' Surge and a stock stamped Pro D disc.  The selection on stock stamped Pro D discs includes Buzzzes, Wasps, Rattlers, Challengers, Strati, Cyclones, Crushes, and maybe some others, while supplies last.
Is that going to be an am only players pack?
For ten dollars more, any pro can get the "$10 value" amateur player pack at any IOS.  You have to see me at the merch table for that during registration.  So for $10 any pro can get the Throw Discraft player pack, while supplies last.
is that for the first 30 pre registered or the first 30 to actually be at the course? It will be 25 each day; the first 25 to check in and ask for it.
a trophy only advanced gets a surge and d-disc for 14 dollars? Yeah!  :o
Wait is there still the let it ride?  Or do you just get the discs. If you want the Throw Discraft player pack and you want to Let It Ride, I'll sell you a second player pack for $10.  If you want the brass player pack and don't want the Throw Discraft player pack, that is cool too.

I'm pretty excited about this.  It just came together this afternoon.  Whether we can get more deals like this from Discraft is just going to depend on how much Discraft players take for prizes and player packs.

Thanks for the info Bruce.  Do not really throw discraft but that Surge I have thrown and I like it.

Someone I played with at Madison the other day clued me in to the short tees for hole #19. They're behind hole #14 tee and the bench behind it. Throwing out over the pond at the basket. Not a long shot, but the water makes it interesting. Might be nice to throw that tee into the mix on Sunday.

pickax

Although it the over water shot isn't that far, for Rec/Jr/Women divisions, there may be quite a few that won't throw over that much water as they might lose a disc. I wouldn't recommend using it for those divisions (at least not without a safe route that doesn't take them over the water).
