First event is Jan 5th @ 1pm. Bevier Park.

I'm a little nervous about the longer road trips. I won't be able to make quite a few due to coaching conflicts.

Heh! Chu phooked up! I thought they looked fishy & that's why I was searching for a 2003 calendar... Guess I should purchase a day planner for disc golf use... [img="http://www.rafansrule.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif"]

Strategy? Try to make as many as possible and play your best game.

Why show up if you think you're that far ahead? Someone could have an outstanding day and not only erase one of their not as good days but pick up a whole lot of strokes on you. After all, ahead/behind will be a sliding average all the way until the end of the year.

If you show up for only seven events and bring your best game to those seven you stand just as much of a chance of placing as anyone else that showed up for all twelve.

One of the reasons why this is so fair to all is the fact that it's essentially a travelling tourney. I haven't ever played 7 of the 12 courses we're playing at, and I'm sure many of the safari regulars haven't either. That helps to level things out a bit also....

So, does this mean I can play league in Am based on my PDGA rating of a NOV? Heh! :D

two things -

first, thanks for reminding me of my wonderful first round at the tourney... I almost had it repressed into submission! :p

second - our best shot scoring system is heavily biased towards 1st thru 4th place. because of this i don't think that scoring method is fairest.

No matter how hard we try we are not going to be able to have a scoring method that will be totally fair to everyone...

oh, and that other thread you linked will be useless to bruce or anyone that doesn't have rights to the private club area....

Its okay Bruce. This is the second season for the Safari and we're still trying to fine tune it. Plus, last year was only four events and now this year is one event a month.

Suggestions for changes to next year's Safari are definately welcome, but (speaking as someone who isn't in power to change things anyhow) unless there is a major flaw in our current format I doubt it would change for the current year.

I keep waffling between the two possible scoring systems..... Honestly, I don't know which is best.

I can see how points (I know, before I said it was unfair) would be good, in that you get one point for playing plus one or two for every player you beat then still drop your worst finishes provided you play more than seven rounds. Or give first X points, then go down the scale to last place (much like best shot, but starting off with more points than needed hopefully).

At the same time, I can see how overall score can be attractive because it shows how well you played on your best seven rounds.

We (the public) can debate this as much as we want. It's up to the Ops committee, the VP, and Prez to decide if scoring needs to be altered. If so, it needs to be done soon....

If I'm supposed to vote on this I will, but as the club's lowly webmaster I didn't think I had a say...
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

okay, now you've made me want to think about this a little more... consider my previous vote, if you saw it, retracted.
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

if we keep total score I think we have to play all 18-hole courses.

mirth

So, three Wisconsin courses in a row? Doesn't sound too bad, now just gotta get that okayed by the wife! :)

Okay - My vote is for overall score after 7 best events. If this doesn't work well, and we should be able to tell by mid-year, it will be changed for 2004.

mirth

Yeah, I think this will work best in the long run.... I know I said keep what was decided but honestly my vote was more for keeping the club good on its word, so to speak.

In regards to Joliet - no reason now to change venues. Changing one thing is bad enough, in my opinion... lets not change two more more.

oh, and glad the data line I ran for you is working out, jojo! Or, should i say dr dye? :D

mirth

Hope to god it's 18... The wife was pissed enough when I sprung this on her earlier this week.

I will be there.

Hmm.... Maybe I'll finally understand the whole 'stump' thing on Saturday!

mirth

why do you say don't leave your discs in your car? just curious...

that CTP is MINE!
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

yeah, but wasn't that in the middle of indian summer and you drove straight into a tree?
Don't forget your towel!

mirth

Jim - I was actually talking to Myk about the whole indian summer thing... But it is funny to know that happened to you as well.. :-p

mirth

Hey Steve, it was great having you with us to play!

Plus, it weren't no big thang to go out on the ice to get your disc. This time of year the ice on the southern and SW side of the pond gets quite thick. It looked to be at least 4" thick when I went out on Saturday.

Anyhow, hope to see you at the next Safari... or perhaps leagues?

wait, you can feel your fingers!? Unfair advantage!!!!  :-p
