Wow, wind sucks.  Worst round I've played in a long long time.  I played as if I have never thrown a disc before.  At least it wasn't cold out.

JOsh

So far it looks like maybe 7 of us going, right?

JOsh

Kyle won our CTP so he gets the point.

JOsh

I really don't care either way because it wouldn't matter if a 12 year old, blind, one armed girl with a lisp was playing, SHE'D be beating me in these Safaris! BUT, I do remember someone saying after you win 3 you get bumped up but I don't remember if Jim just told me that or if I saw it written somewhere.

We'd almost have to keep it the way it is because with the limited pool of lower players we have, Damon would win one more and get bumped.  And really it would just be me, Steve and Jay left. And I'm not sure if Jay has taken first at any of them but I know I won @ Fairfield and Steve won at Madison so with 7 events left, Steve wins two, gets bumped.  I win two, get bumped.  Jay wins the last 3 and gets bumped we now have no lower pool :-)

JOsh

I understand why it is the best 7 out of 12.  I understand you have to make choices some times whether they be personal or disc golf.  I'm just trying to see how we can still have the most amount of people at the Safari.

JOsh

Where's the Post???  Aww man, I missed it!

kyle

Hmm, I'm sitting here looking at the events schedule Jim was handing out at the Safari on saturday, and it has the Widdershins listed as June 7th not the 1st.

I like the 7th better also.  I'd like to play both, but I'd play UWP over bevier with no second thoughts.

BTW, had a lot of fun at the Safari even if I did throw my worst round since I started playing.  (I have to play 8 events after that round).

kyle

Wonderful weather all day Saturday. (sunny, about 80 and only light wind).

Jon, Myk, Jojo, Mirth, Steve and myself showed up to play the Safari.

Jojo took upper(-7), and I handed Steve(-1) the lower win on a silver platter.

If I remember correctly Jon shot a -6 for second in upper, not sure what everyone else shot.  After shooting a -6 in my warm up round I blew up and shot a spectacular +4 for the safari round. (why do I only suck when I pay?)

After the Safari round everyone but Jon went to Elver and played a really fun round.  Steve and Jojo tied for 1st with +3s.

Jim,

When this was discussed at the meeting I didn't see the pitfalls in such a scoring system. I wish I had heard Shawn's objections then. That said, I'd live with this system as it is for this year and make suggestions on how to improve it for next year when the time to plan for next year comes around. Except that in at least one instance the scoring system doesn't make any sense. Joliet is a 24 hole course. If you figure, for argument's sake, that most people are getting threes on that course, then the scores for Joliet would be 18 strokes more. The idea of the safari series as I understand it is to have fun within the competitive frame work of the series. It would be fun if we got a lot of people interested in playing the series. I see why anyone would bother to come out and play the Joliet leg unless the fun for them is just to play. If the fun is the competitive nature of the sport within the context of the safari rules, then there is no reason to play that course. If very few people show up to play that course, then it wouldn't be very fun. The Joliet course is just an exagerated example of the problem with this scoring system.

I would like to see us fix this problem before the series starts rather than run the series with the current stroke scoring system.

I would propose that we have an emergency meeting of the ops and officers (not necessarily in person) and work out a points systems that would reward players for playing and for playing well. My proposal would be to give each player a point plus a point for each person he beats in his division for each round.

I know this is unfair to you, Jim, to bring up our misgivings of the safari series so close to the first event. But if we change it before Saturday, at least we can hand out rules changes before anyone pays their entry fee.

Stroke based scoring only makes sense when all events count. I vote for a points system since we are only going to count the best 7 events. I also am in favor of a system in which each person gets a different amount of points for any one event (besides ties). But I think any points system will be better than a total stroke system.

The Safari Series will be better off with the change to points, even though it was done late. Now, lets bring it on! I'm set to play and Bruce will be there Saturday so maybe some of you will believe that he is not just my made up virtual puppet!!

If my brother and I make a CTP donation for this week's safari, can we play in the same group? I know it's a bribe, but its upfront. Nothing sneaky or underhanded.  : )

Bring the stump, I'll offer something reasonable for it. Also bring your merch. I'll buy something for the CTP. I wouldn't take the Muskegan bridge...I hear it's under about 175 feet of water.

I'll organize a side series ace pool if people are interested. If it hits, the hitter gets all, if not rolls over to the next leg. If there is anything left after the series we do a ctp with each person who paid in the ace pool on any of the legs getting one throw and then people who have attended multiple legs get one throw plus one throw for each 4 events they attended for a max of 4 throws. 1 + (12/4) = 4

I am also voting to keep the safari schedule the same. We will have conflicts with an event that spans the entire year. If you need one of us to run that leg for you Jim, we can.

Bruce,

When are you getting in and where are you staying?

The last time I played it, I couldn't find all of the long tees. Do we have a map?

I would plan on playing dirt tees unless they have done course improvements since the last time I played. I think limestone my have been what the tees were made of when the course was put in the ground.

I'll play whichever tees people want, but I'd prefer the long tees. I wonder what configuration the WCP is for. When I have played Gary's PDGA events we had extra holes.

I'm in town.  I brought a Safari themed trophy for the best overall score.
