I got the word today that Marshall Street is going to sponsor 18 CTP's for this event. They are sending a mix of DVD's and T-Shirts. SWEET!!!

Excellent!  I was dying to announce, but it was all Brett's doing so I was biting my tongue.  We're going to do them like this:

9 -- Saturday Morning
2 -- Open Pros
1 -- All other pros
5 -- Advanced
1 -- All other amateurs

9 -- Sunday Morning
4 -- Intermediate
3 -- Rec
1 -- All Juniors
1 -- All women

The fact that you guys faithfully patronize our events in huge numbers is what makes sponsorship happen.  The IOS is literally the biggest thing in the Midwest right now, as far as I know.  Might be the biggest thing in the PDGA.

thats huge!  hats off to the brakels, brett, and all the others making things happen.  i can assure you all that it doesnt just fall in their lap - they are out there working for it, and working hard.  so next time you see one of them make sure you give em a hearty handshake and let them know thier efforts are apperciated.

on the rockford end of things i am seriously looking forward to a big event.  i went out last night and ran into some recreational players that have started coming out on wednesday nights.   hearing them get all stoked makes me think that alot of locals will be participating and having these marshall street treats, a huge ace pool, a well run event, and all that just makes that total package look so good.  cant wait!

Greg,

Have you placed all pins in there tournament positions yet?  If not, when do you expect them to be there?

What does "R" mean in the long or short column?

maybe it means "regular" because I don't remember where an alternate would be placed on 9 or 17... although I've only played once.

ditto on the "are they in the tournament positions yet" question because my family is going to have a "Rockford Outing" and go play East and West tomorrow! :)

Not sure exactlly when they'll be moved, hopefully within the next week here, but it all depends on what the key holder for the baskets has planned.  If I run into him today then hopefully they'll moved by the afternoon, but he has a way of putting these things on the back burner so it is really all up in the air.  I will get them in asap though because I too want to practice them.

Two holes, 9 and 17, are exactlly the same distance so the 'R' indicates if they are in the right or left position.  9 is a anhyzer, 17 is the absolute ace shot.  Bring your 3 bucks!

spitner - if you are intrested we will be playing for lincolns at 10am (this could also mean 11am depending on how people are doing in the morning) and probably messing around the rest of the afternoon.  look for my blue VW if you are intrested.  also, if you run into a guy selling discs out of a big truck ask him about the hole positions for the tournament - that may prompt him to start moving those baskets sooner than later.

not sure how early we are going to be out there, but I think we'll probably just stick to our group.  My dad just started playing last month, and my wife and my mom will be walking the course with us but probably not playing... so playing with the rest of all of you probably won't work out.

I'll be on the lookout for the guy selling discs :)

I take offense to your terms here, 9 is a hyzer shot, do not be racist to us lefties!  Just going to have to kick your but at the tourney.

lol, lefties rule!  3 out of 4 disc golfers in my family are lefties (including myself!).  I'll just have to make sure I have my Roadrunner and Stratus at the ready...

the alternates got mapped out today.  it will be four on the new side between holes 9 and 10.   the first one is a 300 foot semi open shot and a very attainable duece.  the fairway is about 60 wide and there is one small tree in the middle that kind of makes the route more favorable to the lefties.  the second is another 300 foot shot that first goes slightly uphill until about 80 feet fromt the basket where there are four trees that make about a ten foot ceiling that you have to shoot under to park the hole.  the third is a 400 foot graduall uphill shot.  the basket is tucked into a cove of bushes and small trees and to get in there your upshot, or really long drive, has to hit a 10 foot gap (but punching through shouldnt be a problem for most).   the fourth is a open fairway shot that is long and has two giant shrubry formations near it that will be very hard to make a three out of if you go in there.  walking away par from the alternates will be better than average i am guessing.

the old side will have two alternates.  the first comes off 18s basket.  it is a 250 foot shot that is a tight righty hyzer.  the fairway is about 30 wide, curves in both directions and goes up and downhill in parts.  its a neat looking and playing shot.  the second alternate is from the back of the field where the practice basket is located to the practice basket.  set up for lefties, it will play about 450 give or take.

I don't think this has been mentioned yet, but is everyone on Sunday playing from the pro tees on the west course?  Those are marked with the tee signs.  We didn't even bother looking for the am tees since they weren't marked.  For the first time out to west I threw... meh... I guess lol.  I had a 72 on West and 71 on East (second time I've played East).  I know that so many of the baskets will be changed that I can't use that as a good basis, but man will it ever be tough.  I came very close to scoring a 3 on hole 10 on west (600 footer), but the 3rd shot was just barely to the left.  I'll happily take a 4 on it though considering I'm just now starting to hit 300' on my drives (on a good day lol)  I'm generally around 250-280... which is one of the reasons I play Rec hah.

And Rob ... if you read this ... Rob with a green camaro and front end damage.  Thanks so much for returning my brother's cell phone!  That was very awesome of you.  The first guy that found it?  Not a good idea to leave it on the picnic bench since someone else picked it up.  Thankfully it's back in my brother's hands once again :)  Man were we worried about that.

Always nice to have decent folk out on the disc golf course!  ;D

everyone will be playing from the pro pads on the west course on sunday unless it rains over the weekend in which case the tee pads will be moved slightly to reduce wear and tear on the ground.   as for the score - i dont expect many to shoot under par for the day.   in fact, looking back on last years scores for the rec division a plus 24 for the day still paid out so take those fours with a grain of salt and rack up those dueces up when you can.  if you have a chace to play here again i would recommend practicing holes 13 through 18 on the west side - alot of dueces in there!  the old side will be a bit more foregiving.  the long holes will be long but the duce holes are out there too.

Here's how to get to Anna Page by taking 'the bat cave' - you basically will have avoided Rockford all together, saved about 30 minutes worth of stop lights, and it is a few miles shorter than taking either State Street or Riverside.

from I-39/90 exit to US 20 and take US 20 West and exit at Meridian Road

From the exit ramp take a right, going North bound on Meridian Road.  The first set of lights you'll approach will be West State Street, then Auburn Rd.  Go past both these streets and take a right, heading East onto Safford Rd.

Stay on Safford for about two miles until you get to the first stop sign, that will be Springfield Road - take a left there, going North bound and take an immediate left into the park and you are there!

Heres what 'tournament central' will look like for the saturday players - we got 8 grills right there, a few electrical outlets, running water, bathrooms, a playground, enough room for at least 80 under the gazebo, and enough room arounf the gazebo for multiple practice areas and whatnot.  so bring a cooler and some food to grill up - it should be a pretty deluxe set up!
