Bruce & Jon,

I did some research but couldn't find it. I remember reading, at least I thought. Anyway, if a player preregisters for a tournament as a Rec player and his rating bumps him up to Int after the ratings update, can he still play Rec?

There is a two week grace period after the ratings update. Bruce's thread "The 2006 Advanced playing Intermediate Rule" hashes through arguments about it.

What Mike said.  I can hunt down the official rule text if necessary.  Does Aurora come right after or right before the ratings update?

Beats it by a couple of days. Aurora is 9/16-17. Ratings update is 9/19.

Thanks for the info. IOS #6 comes right before & IOS #7 is a month after so there should be no issues.

Here is the rule:

Quote2) Players who have become ineligible for a division due to a ratings update may
participate for two weeks following the update provided they are pre-registered for the
event in question.

It is in the 2006 Tour Standards document which is incorporated into the rules by reference.

looks like there was one advance rating that slipped into intermediate at Streamwood.  Guess it was covered under the above "time rule".

There were two in the wrong divisions. One rec that should have been intermediate and one int that should have been advanced. Since the last ratings update was almost two months ago, it was probably an oversight during registration at Streamwood.

The only advanced level players that should have played on Sunday were the hot shot juniors.

Seems like there is always one.  If you know the players, let them know that their rating moved them into the next division.  Some players are just oblivious.

We try our best. For pre-reg it would be nice if the PDGA site would block a registration for a player playing too low. It does not. For on site, it is difficult at best. It is not computerized and for Streamwood we were missing Maddisen. I think also the sun was in our eyes...I know I left my tux at the cleaners.

If you know someone is playing in the wrong division on the day of I would appreciate if you could let me know. Be discreet and I will also.

When ratings were a new concept, I'd go through the list in the morning and double check.  At this point it *should* be the player's sole responsibility to know what division he is eligible for.  It is actually a shared responsibility, and it would be helpful if everyone shared that responsibility.   8)

That shouldn't be too tough on this board.  The bagger finks can sniff out those players.   :s-shock:

By the way, quietly, behind the scenes, little elves are constantly assessing the performance of the PDGA non-members who play our tournaments to ensure that your tournament playing experience will be as bagger-free as possible.  We move up the non-members at the same intervals that the PDGA moves up the members on the same mathematical basis.

If you want to discreetly identify non-members you think should be assessed, send e-mail to "ratings_elves" at brasscash.com.
