Got some stuff in the mail today & also an August/September disc golf magazine. They are going to provide some lodging to Barry Schultz, $30,000 for the Microtel Inns Ace Race in San Antonio in September, and give discounts to everyday disc golfers!

Just use the coporate ID "golfdisc".

Haven't checked the site to see how much of a discount it is, but something is better than nothing.

Hopefully this is just the start of corporate sponsorship for our great sport!!

As a TD I have received unsolicited inquiries from Hampton Inns seeking to negotiate a host hotel deal.  Since I have always run 1-day or split-day tournaments, I have always referred them to other TDs running M/NT/A stuff.

Sounds like a good start :)  If I'm reading it right, it looks like one Microtel that I looked at in Michigan (Ann Arbor) saved you $1/night for the corporate rate?  That doesn't sound like a whole lot, but the one in Springfield, MO was $5-$7 cheaper per night.  It's always nice to have a discount!

It looks like it's the prize money for an ace race that is going to happen out in California?  Intriguing though since Barry is Innova-sponsored and the ace races are discraft events, are they not?

If I could throw a stinking ace I'd love to win some of that cash :)

So you are telling me that a disc golf event is getting 30,000 in prize money added to an event, and the event is an ace race?  This can't actually be true.  Although it would make about as much sense as everything else in disc golf.  Forget adding it to something like the USDGC, lets put it towards a ridiculous novelty event that any chucker could win and make disc golf look even more gay.

The $30,000 is what you get if you ace one particular hole at the tournament.  They buy an insurance policy to pay for the ace if anyone hits it.  Microtel, apparently, is paying for the insurance policy.

Microtel has donated $1,000 to the disc golf center in Georgia and another $500 or so to this ace race tournament.  That's chump change.

At least some company wants their name associated with Disc Golf in some way. Even if it's a novelty event, it a disc golf event with their name in it. And granted they've only donated a SMALL amount, but something's always better than nothing. (I thought it was big money until Bruce clarified) If people use the discount they give us, it might convince them that they need to devote more marketing to the disc golfing public and get the attention of other companies. It's gotta start somewhere.

It's nothing - no discount. According to PDGA Marketing Director John Duesler, "Microtel already has discounted rates throughout their national (and individually owned) chain of hotels."
