Yes. In Pioneer Park, north of Rt. 72, they were installing a disc golf course in Kirkland. I know they were doing the skateboard park first. I don't know if they got around to installing the disc golf course before winter hit. Sounds like they might have. I'll have some friends in that area check it out; and I'll post that information on Monday.

There is also going to be a new disc golf course in Mundelein. At Diamond Lake Slough on Rt 83, which I think is Midlothian Rd.

Another one in Antioch at Tim Osmond Sports Complex on Depot St. This one in Antioch is an 18-hole course. Mundelein will be 9 holes.

And another 9-hole course will be installed in Bloomingdale. Close to the Stratford Square Mall. At Spingfield Park.

I forgot to mention that Lippold Park in Crystal Lake is also getting over $150,000 to upgrade the park. But it doesn't sound like the money is going toward improving the course. They're putting in batting cages and a skateboard park, and improving the trail over there.

A couple of months ago I did bump into one of the guys that helped put in the course and he DID ask me how I felt about about getting the tee boxes upgraded and fixed up (which I responded a major thumbs up), so there IS a possibility that some attention will be given to the tees.  Let's hope!

I'd love to have one there as that's less than 4 miles from my apartment   I haven't visited that park before, I have to check it out.  Hopefully the park will not go through the same troubles as Roselle and grumpy residents!

It's there. It's 18. It's scenic. And it's short.

The course is designed around a large pond. The footage is: 210, 245, 254, 327, 223, 286, 333, 230, 203, 290, 301, 250, 242, 270, 263, 265, 247, and 239.

However, if you play to different baskets, the course actually plays very well.

That's up to the Park District in that area. I imagine it will be after the winter. Luckily the course is scheduled to go in within the first phase of their planned development. Along with a couple football fields, and a baseball field.

But they're getting $400,000 to complete the project. And other than a play area for the kids, a parking lot, and the usual park benches and shelter and so on, I don't think there is much more to it. So they should have enough money to make a pretty good course.

I have pictures of the course. They'll be uploaded later tonight. This place is a designer's dream. That pond offers a ton of possibilities.

Grass tees. Mostly new baskets, and a few older ones (but no big deal). Stand-alone birdhouses (maybe 5 feet high) are posted 25 feet behind one basket, and 10 feet behind another basket. Really good trees (which were left out of the course's design). There is an elevated tee going back into the woods. It plays way too easily for the land it has available. And a 301-foot hole is completely straight. It has a 40-foot wide fairway. You can take it to the left a little; but if you throw it straight and it hooks to the right at all (and misses the treeline) it's going in the river.  I'll post that fairway picture tonight.

There are several birdfeeders, which are stocked for the chickadees, woodpeckers, and other domesticated birds. And ice fishermen also seem to be common there. So if it goes into the pond during the winter, they can throw it back to you. The sign says the park is open 6am till midnight.

The second picture is the pond. It curves off in the distance to the right. The ice fisherman will give you a sense of scale. It's not a small pond.

I can see them just fine.  They are up as attachments, and they expand to full view when clicked on.

The attached pic is a screen cap. of the first pin location from my google map.  After the first hole, the next few are across the street to the south.  The the course crosses back over the street and works its way clockwise, more or less, around the pond.  The Kish runs east to west about 40' from the north end of the pond.  Water really doesn't come into play except on errant shots.  They really missed an opportunity to wrap some fairways around the pond creating some risk/reward.

The great thing about playing the Kirkland course is that the residents enjoy seeing you use the course- a rapid departure from what I read about disc golf courses being installed. I was one the first group to finish the completed course, I got my picture taken by so many people and shook a many hand- hole 14 is informally the Mayor's hole. I don't know if it was completion jubilation or not, but I hope it lasts. Even the owner of the house that hole six's tee area sits near was happy to see us. While playing the course, cars would stop along the road and waves us over to see what we thought of the course. A couple of times cars would park to watch us throw.  The course is short and relatively easy but the course was designed to be beginner friendly.  Out of the group that I play with the course record so far is 13 down and as a group we have two aces. I got my first ace on hole 9 and my friend Tom got his 8th ace on hole 3. I would defiantly recommend golfers making the drive to play the course, not only for the many ace chances, but to show the town support for their investment. While the course was being installed, the designers Mike and Kathy talked about pro tees being installed if an interest is shown. If disc golfers show up and use the course, it has a ton of potential not only in its original design but with alternate tees- especially when the lake comes into play. I believe those are my tracks in glasspipe's pictures of the course.

Yea I like camping at McQueens Forest Preserve right by there, nice quiet wooded campground that not too many people know about.  I'll definately check that course out the next time i'm out there.

Is this worth making the hour drive for? Short & relatively easy doesn't really entice me to spend $ on gas....
