If anyone is interested in partnering for this, drop me a line.

Kurt & I are partnering up for this. Looks to be a lot of fun & if you haven't played the New Oswego yet, it's worth checking out.

Please note:  Due to unplayable conditions at Jericho Park (many holes under water) the tournament has been moved to Eagle Ridge in Oswego.

The restrooms by the pool will be opened for the tournament. Maps of the course will be available on the board. You can park at Violet Patch Park or the Civic Center. You can find something to eat around the corners of Douglas & Rt. 34, and Douglas & Rt. 30.

We are hoping to get the cement teepads installed this spring, but they are not in right now. Just so you know that coming into this tournament. Other than that, we'll be preparing the course this week and getting things ready.

how much snow is there in oswego area?
what is the course like? good course?

Fox Metro Discer

The open holes do not have much snow remaining, the wooded holes have 2 inches or so in most spots.

As for the course itself, the length runs about 5000 feet. Most holes are in the 250 range with a few around 320 and one at 400. The longer holes are open, with some of the shorter holes requiring more finesse and accuracy. With the addition of the new 9 wooded holes, Eagle Ridge has become a much more technical course. Most of the holes are under 280', but require a great deal of accuracy due to the narrow (10') fairways with trees and schule on both sides. Do not get me wrong, these holes are deuceable, but require you to hit your lines.
If you do plan on playing the course this summer, I highly recommend playing it now. Most of the new 9 holes will become a blind shot after the leaves fill in this spring, so find your lines now while you can see the basket from the tee boxes.
In my opinion, the addition of the new holes has increased both the difficulty and enjoyability of a previously otherwise mundane course ;D

There's a great bar near there I looove called Poorboy's Pub. It's got 1/2 lb. bar burgers for $5   >:D

It's at 238 Montgomery rd., Montgomery, IL. Only about 5 minutes from the course.

Not sure how fast they are for lunch, but I'm definetly hitting this up for beers & burgers after. I was over-stuffed when I hit this up for the "lunch" break when Gary held the Glow Event at Jericho in '05.

Weather looks good for Saturday.  Warmest day in a long time.

I played Oswego this morning.  The snow is gone from the open field and largely gone in the woods.  What is left is packed snow and ice.  Tee pads are in excellent shape (crushed limestone -- old 9, wood chips -- new 9) and completely free from snow and ice.  Sub-freezing temperatures this morning made conditions just about perfect.  Warmer temperatures will bring out the mud.

I'm planning on it. I forget, is it singles 1st round then doubles or the other way?
thanks,

Doubles first round, singles second round.

Tree Camp is largely responsible for that. He's been keeping up the course on his own time for years. Similar to what Frank Grimes does in Channahon.

(Tree is going to Texas this weekend for the Texas State Amateur Doubles Championship. So he won't be at the Challenge).

Could someone please tell me what time I can expect to be done this day?  I am playing in the Rec division.  I ham having dinner at my sister in laws that day and need to tell my wife what time it will get done.

It'll all depend on how many people show up, if conditions make the course play slower, etc., but a safe bet would be about 5 P.M. I'm figuring 3 hour rounds with a 1 hour lunch break, probably an over-estimate, but better be early vs. what you tell your wife than late. From married friends I know who disc golf, over estimating your time by a bit is good to earn brownie points for other events.

I would also think the doubles round would speed things up that day.

On average, it takes leagues about 2 1/2 hours for a round of doubles. As for singles play, it usually runs me and a group of 3 others roughly 2 hours if you are shooting around par.

Any word on the clubs who will be competing? Is Joliet going to be there?

I have not heard from the Joliet Group.  The clubs that have verbally committed are:

Fox Valley Metro
Discontinuum
Renegades
Disc Golf Alley

I believe that we will be done before 5:00 PM doubles should move pretty quickly and we are getting an early start.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this course for the first time and competing in my first ever event!

NOTE: There is a minor change to the format.   We are playing singles in the morning and doubles in the afternoon.  Having singles in the morning will allow us to get everyone on the course sooner.  It will also allow everyone to get together and choose a partner for the afternoon round.  You must have a partner prior to leaving for lunch.  That will allow us to set up the afternoon rounds.

As a reminder: This is a club challenge, there may be some strategy involved in choosing your partner! Team scores!

You are welcome to come if you don't have a partner, as long as you are affiliated with a club. We will work at getting everyone a partner.  As we are getting closer to the event, the response has been great.

Thanks.

Fox Metro Discer

Now, I was figuring that the doubles round would help everyone that has not played this course before a chance to have a partner help them find their lines and possibly "bail out" their partner before the singles round. Just a thought.
