So many new faces round thes boards!  Anyways I know Gateway has a few new discs out, well new to me anyways, and I was hoping someone could give me the lowdown...

Warlock - beadless Wizard right?

Inferno -?
Raging Inferno - ?
Raging Inferno DT - ?

And am I missing anything else?

Warlock is a beadless Wizard, yes.  It is supposed to be very straight but not understable, and faster than a Wizard.

Inferno - understable out of the box and very fast, very long in a tailwind or no wind

Raging Inferno - Re-tooled version of the Inferno to make it more stable...  Its much flatter and between wraith/teerex in stability.

Raging Inferno DT - Same but with dimples on the bottom, it turns a little more and has more float.  Flight is similar to a Wraith or Beast.  Probably the longest of the three for golf shots.

There is also the Blurr and Rage, but I dont know anything about those.

I got a chance to try out a few new Gateway/Quest discs today.  Steve at Quest has been giving me a lot of protos to try out.  The other day I got my hands on a few discs in their new "Super Resilient Plastic" which basically feels like ESP/Star but very flexible.  Maybe halfway between ESP and the new FLX stuff.

The Raging Inferno in this plastic was basically identical in flight to the Star Teerex-X i'm throwing.  Its fast and overstable and I can throw it around 360-370' on a flat to hyzer line the whole way.  The rim is very shallow though and I like the Teerex better for that reason.  Flight-wise there really isnt much of a difference for me.

The Raging Inferno DT was basically like a worn Wraith with a ton of glide.  The one I had was a 166 so I think that made it even less stable.  I think it would be much better at max weight.   It just seemed to stay up in the air a lot longer than you would expect.  Basically the exact same distance I get with my wraiths, but required a more exaggerated S-curve to get there.  You either need to aim left, or hyzer flip it a little bit.  In a tailwind I think this disc would absolutely BOMB.  I might replace the infernos I'm throwing now for turnovers with this, because I think its more predictable.

The Warlock is a lot like a beat wizard.  Very straight, stable, minor fade late in its flight.  The plastic is awesome (I have 5 white ones that are all the same - very grippy).  If you have a beat wizard, though, just stick with that.  I'm hoping mine beat in to a turnover putter as I can't get my wizards beat in enought to turn, only go straight.

Don't know anything about the others, but if the past is any indicator of the future, if you find one you like, get like ten of them right away, because every subsequent run will be significantly different.  Gateway likes to tinker with the plastic A LOT and there discs are uber inconsistent from run to run.
That kid is back on the escalator!!!

Anyone have a good line of some of the new Gateway Plastic?

Looking for a 170-172 Raging Inferno DT preferrably black or pink and withouth the stupid raging inferno stamp.

If you don't mind me plugging my friend's store, he has some Raging Inferno DT's at the Star plastic pricing without the stamp and also in your weight range.

That's a link to a search that I ran on his store.  You can email him privately to see if he has more or anything different.  If you do order from him, make sure to mention that Scott from Paper or Plastic Sports sent you ;)  I don't know if it would get you any better deals, but it would at least let him know that I'm sending him some business.

I have at least 4 or 5 in my car that I could get rid of.  I'll check at lunch.  I know I have some in different colors that do have the stamp, one or two red protos without a stamp, and a light green one in the new "super resilient" plastic, no stamp.  Ive thrown the proto and the new one, but only out in a field to test them out.

I know Quest/Gateway discs aren't all that popular with folks, but if anyone is looking for any of the cross over disc(not the GDS exclusive discs) hit the Walgreens in Palatine at Dundee and Old Hicks.

I was in there today and they have a 120 disc rack with ONLY Quest/GDS discs.  Not sure how that deal got hooked up but thats what it was.

Just this week I have also established (or re-established) accounts with both Quest and Gateway.  My Quest order is already in the works, but I'm looking for suggestions on what to pick up from Gateway.  Wizards and Warlocks are a given, but should I ask for all model types (Super Soft, Soft, Medium, Firm, Evolution)?  I have some Blurr's and Rage's headed my way already.

I'm looking to order 150-200 discs or more if possible.

I personally only throw the firm Wizards, I tried the Evo, but didnt like the feel, ordering that many though you should put some pressure on Dave to run some wizards in the Nike plastic... also you might want to grab some Glo Wizards.

As for other discs I would say you could ignore (or get very few) Speed Demons, Illusions, Spirits as most people don't tend to have the arm for them and those who do generally don't throw Gateway.  Now before some one comes here and corrects me I said generally.. and in this area.

Working Stiff

I just went through St. Louis, and my friends down there are dirty with GDS stuff. :P
A lot of them had the soft Warlocks, the most common Wizards were the S-plastic.
Those guys use Element X's for ROC shots (saw a lot of Demons, also.  The wind was howlin'! >:D)
I still saw some Sabres used for mid to long drives, although I saw A LOT of Hybrids used for those shots as well.  Some guys were using the Blaze in the wind.
Spirit, Inferno, & Raging Inferno DT were the max D discs with my weenie-armed counterparts, although the Rage & Blurr are popping up.  The big arms were using the Speed Demon & the Illusion.
Another friend (and fellow weenie-arm) got back from BG and has emailed me four times to tell me I have to get a Diablo DT!
GDS is overhaulin' the lineup, so some of these discs may be OOP.  I heard a rumor that the Demon was toast, but I don't know that for a fact.
Most of my friends use nothing but the E plastic for anything other than the Wizard/Warlock, although a few used beat S Sabres for a roller.  GDS plastic is usually good quality; it's just never the same run to run so you can get frustrated when you find a disc you like (say, a H-Chief like my former approach disc) and find out a year later that you will NEVER find another one like it. >:(  I'd guess 60 E/40 S plastic except for putters, where you will need to mix it up some more.

stpitner

Thanks for the tip bubbakick.  Dave told me that they just recently had a run of S-Demon's, so I guess the disc is still around for at least a little while.

That Diablo DT does look pretty sweet.  They are sending me a couple prototypes of those to test out and chuck around.

The Hybrid is definitely newer and sounds to be fairly good.  I think I have one of those coming out to try before I buy :)

myndcraft - Thanks for the tips.  Right now I'm just working on establishing the account there, so I don't feel like pressuring for anything just yet ;)  Once I start to see sales going well with these, then I'll start picking up more and more and see what can be done from there.  I will receive advanced notice of when they plan on doing a run of a particular disc, so I can at least snag a bunch as random stuff becomes available.

Hopefully I'll have a bunch of goodies sometime next week!

The Inferno and Raging Inferno DT are Quest discs.  The Diablo DT is basically a Raging Inferno DT with a thicker flight plate and smaller wing.

My GDS buddies really jump my case when I call the 10 M Brick a Gateway disc, so I should have figured someone would get bent if I called the Inferno a Gateway disc.  Oh well, both my Infernos and the Brick I have say "Gateway" right on the stamp, so I'm not going to worry about it.

The only reason I mention it, is I always see people jumping at other people when they say the Brick is Gateway or Gateway/Quest, and they get yelled at that it has nothing to do with Gateway.  If you are going to correct one, you might as well correct them all.

stpitner

The whole "fight" is because Gateway and Quest had a merger that ended at the end of 2006.  Up until then they were stamping everything with both names.  The hot stamp may change, but the discs that are molded to say Gateway or Quest on the disc will not be changed.

The Gateway lineup:
Illusion
Spirit
Speed Demon
Blurr
Rage
Assassin (Coming Soon)
Diablo-DT (Coming Soon)
Sabre
Hybrid
Blaze
Demon
Element
Element X
Wizard
Warlock

The Quest Lineup:
Scorcher
Raging Inferno
Raging Inferno DT
Inferno
Scream (discontinued)
Scream 2 (discontinued)
Scream DT (discontinued?)
Backbone
Wildfire
Crossfire
Ten Meter Crossfire
Ten Meter Brick
True Line Odyssey Putter
Odyssey Power Driver
Odyssey Ultra-Long Range Driver
Odyssey Control Driver
Odyssey Mid-range/Approach

Lot's of neat discs to throw from those companies!
