Any word??

I want to check this place out

jon timley

Anyone know if it's open yet?   Or when it will be.

Thanks.

DiscGolfSchodt

I went there on thursday 6/12/08 and it's still closed. Also in town there is a sign that says Tim Osmond sport complex fund and it has a gauge on it that is only about half way to the top ($600,000 of $1,000,000) I wonder if the ran out of cash and stopped working on the park? I have not seen any workers at the park in about two weeks and I go out there almost every day.

The course does not play very well right now. They still need to do some more mowing and clearing, it's very easy to loose a disc. As far as the design 1-6 are all righty hyzers about 300 feet 7 is pretty cool it plays up a large hill. Hole eight is the best on the front 9 its on the side of the large hill slightly downhill and just over 400 feet (its a fun shot). Hole 9 is just ok slightly uphill 350ish. Hole 10 the tee is on top of the hill would be nice to throw a big bomer off it but the hole is short. The marker for #12 tee pad is two feet away from basket 11, I dont know what that is about 14-18 are all good holes probally the best section of the course.

I got a call from Dave Brown last night about a work day on Sunday 6/29 around noon. He left me a voice mail about moving some baskets and clearing out a few areas. I will talk with him some time today and get more details. Anyone from the area who isnt going to Peoria please come on out. We could really use your help.

The front is not so good. A few shorter holes combined could have made for a few nice par 4's.

There is a nice boulder tucked in the woods. A tad bit of clearing could have lead to a green like this. (Orange Basket)

Also, the southeast corner of the park is not utilized at all. There is potentinal for a nice tunnel shot in the woods leading to that corner.

It is ridiculous having such a big hill to throw from and using a putter.

Just another disappointment in Lake County.

Just another black eye to Lake County disc golf.

This course is not very playable in areas. They mowed the cross contry path and that is it. The rough is pretty brutal in places and you will lose plastic if you don't keep an eye on your shot.

The tees are marked with wooden stakes with orange paint written on them. They have the # on them. The tees are all grass.

I have seen it all now. The orignal 6 was supposed to play near the woods. They didn't mow it so you walk quite a ways back into the courner. You walk across #7's fairway then throw directly by #7's tee pad back tracking. So you cross #7 3 times before playing #7. You then walk back to #7 and throw across 6's fairway. AWESOME!

#12 tee is just past the basket of 11. Duck!

#'s 13 thru 17 really aren't too playable. The tall grass is pretty brutal and the only mowed area is the cross country path.

What a total disappointment!

Damn, I was wishing for new baskets to throw at but it sounds like this is a gas waster

Is this another instance of course design by someone who doesn't play disc golf? (although I didn't comb the thread for who designed it)

stpitner

sounds like they had the same person who designed Leo Leathers come out for this one...  wonder what it would take to get them to change it up, especially when you state that people could be hurt from crossing fairways.

After spending a few hours at Antioch on Sunday I dont understand what all the complaining is about.

We just got a brand new 18 hole course finally put in on a decent peice of property in Lake County. Yeah it needs a few tweaks here and there but lets stop complaing and do something about it. They are obviously willing to let us use most of the land out there since the course goes around and thru the whole complex. Never is a course ready to play right as it is put in. There is always some more work that needs to be done. This can be a excelent course if we put some time into it and get involved with the install of tee pads since we already missed the install of the baskets. Just becouse they have a wooded stake in the ground with a # on it doesnt mean that is were the tee pad has to go. They are up for ideas.

As for our work day on Sunday. We were able to move 13s basket before the storm came in and we were able to clear the fairways for 14-15. So the cluster f*ck part in the back 5 holes looks alot better and easier to navigate thru. They are suppose to be out there mowing and clearing out some areas by the end of this week but with the holiday this week who knows.
As far as the first 5 holes being all righty hyzers the back 9 makes up for it with holes13-18 all being turnover shots. If we put our club and its 100+ members to work out there this can be an EXCELENT course by the end of summer.

Justin,

The complaints are legit. That is the frustrating part. This should and could be the best course in Lake County. Course design and suggestions were offered  before the baskets were in place. There is no reason that a brand new course should have to be overhauled. After the baskets were in more suggestions were made. There were several walk thrus done. They had hired help that would have done it right the first time if they were told to do so.

This course just shows the lack of knowledge of the game in this area. Instead of getting the tweaks done prior to installation they have to be done now. My old boss at Union Roofing would be going nuts right now. Hey kid, wtf are you doing the same job twice.

This course should not be open right now until it's complete. The tee pad situation is going to get outta hand just like Round Lake. For locals playing for the first time they are going to hate this course unless they get that mower out there soon.

I hope for the best but i'm not very optomistic at this point.

I totally agree about having to do it twice when it should have been done right the first time sucks ass, but what im saying is these guys doing it have no clue what disc golf is all about and how a course should be installed, they just do what they are told. So i think we are the ones who will have to go in and fix the issues the course has becouse no one else will and if we dont we are wasting a great oppertunity to have a great course in our backyard.

Chris

hey, just to check, have they at least mowed down the grass a bit and shown slightly where the tees are?  I stopped by a few weeks back while it was still closed and took a quick walk.  I was on hole 1 and 2, and the grass was tall enough that after 10 minutes I had about 7 ticks crawling on me.  Has it been improved at all since then at least?  If there is a time for anyone interested in helping to go out and do some cutting down out there, please do post it on here.  I would like to lend a hand with it.

CEValkyrie

The grass has not been mowed down very much. I had a tick on me last time I went out. I've had them every time i've been out there.

The tees are marked with long woodens stakes painted orange. They have the hole # written on them. Classy!

Eh, better than nothing I guess.  I will have to get out there soon.  And for the record, this is Chris, haha, figured I would register.  So how can we go about improving on the course?

holes 1 thru 12 are all mowed now, but holes 13-17 still need some love.
