holes 1 thru 12 are all mowed now, but holes 13-17 still need some love.
Even around the pins?

It doesn't look like the baskets will be moving. They dug out circles about 4 inches deep around every basket. They filled them with limestone.

Circles before teepads? Just keep the Lake County mecca rolling Antioch!

Hey guys!
THANK YOU for trying to get stronger input for this course!
I played holes 1-12 last week and thought it had good potential.

Basket placement needs improvement.
Tee placement seemed to suck.
I hope cement hasn't been poured yet.
Signage and mowing can always be improved at any time.

I saw Dave (Brownie) Brown's name earlier in this thread.
Is Dave the primary course designer or at least a contact?

Brett, I agree this course could be stellar, but everyone involved has to be really committed to that goal.
Let me know if I can help in any way.

Hey Jim, I think one of Brett's biggest peeves about Antioch is they solicited lots of advice and course design/routing suggestions from him and other disc golfers and then didn't use any of it.
Don't forget your towel!

Hi Folks -- I live about 4 blocks from Osmond Park and finally drove through there to see what was there and noticed the baskets.  Thought I'd pick up some discs and have a go at at it.  Found out... I'm way outa shape,  It  can be a bit tough to find your way around (got lost after 9) and this stuff is pretty fun (considering I throw like an old lady).  It seems as though the whole park is still not quite ready for prime time....kinda the way Antioch works a lot of time.  It took about 2-3 years for them to finally complete the bathrooms by the band shell.  Also pretty typical that they ask for info and then don't use it...Walmart comes to mind.  Hopefully it will get tidied up.

Have a good one...Scott

The course is slowly getting better.I went out today and they now have a nice course map sign by tee #1. Also the course has all 18 tee signs with graphics and hole distance, they are look'n good. There is no more crossing fairways and the course looks playable. The rough and grass is still nasty, keep an eye on your plastic.

Played the course today with a buddy and I must say it's not that bad. I'm sure it could've been better if they took your suggestions, but I like the slight elevation changes here and there and how the baskets are tucked away into the woods. I enjoyed it. The first 10 or so holes are definitely all righty friendly, but then they start to mix it up. The wooded holes in the back are technical and really require proper placement. You learn quick to stay out of the rough. I ended up throwing my Rocs on every hole except for 12 where I threw a putter and 18 where I threw the Eagle. I will definitely keep my bag light for the next round. The bugs are really bad in the woods and I forgot my bug spray. It was torture. Pants are also nice to have if you plan on spending a lot of time in that tall grass otherwise it will chew up the skin on your legs.

I played Antioch again on Friday 8/8/08.
Tee signs are great!
Limestone basket skirts are really nice.
Course flows better now that tweaks have been made.
This course is going to become a favorite of mine.

However, the schule is crazy bad.
Be careful on Holes 15 through 17, where the fairways are really close.
Also, the distances on the big course sign do not match the tee distances, and I think most are way off.

A very fun and challenging course - get out and play this one!

are things looking better with the ticks as well?  I'd presume that with the more brush that is pulled out, the less of a problem the ticks will be - but with crazy schule still out there who knows?

The ticks are not bad anymore I have not had any on me the last two times out. Jose and I went out there today we cleared some brush out around some of the baskets found an in ground bees nest by 12's pin, got stung, it sucked.

Some bad news: Hole #1's basket is gone. I can only assume it was stolen because they dont have locks on the baskets, what dumbasses. I tried to search for a park district contact to let them know about needing locks on the baskets, but could'nt find one. So I sent the guy thats running the event on the 23rd a message hopefully he passes along the info.

Holes 13-18 are amazing in my opinion, #16 is pretty tough.

I talked to the main 2 guys the day the baskets went in the ground.  I told them to get locks on them immediately or a basket would get stolen. More to come i'm sure.

I just spoke with Steve Schmaus from Antioch Township.
He was not aware of the stolen basket.
He said he would get it replaced ASAP and would make sure locks were installed on all the baskets.
Only the one basket closest to Depot Rd. (17?) had a lock on it at this point.

I thanked him profusely for the course and all his hard work, and that there were many local discers who were now enjoying the course.

Played the course for the first time yesterday with Scott K. I like it ;D
Holes 15 thru 17 will test your accuracy. As the course is played the TALL ROUGH should get beat down to a more friendly level. So get out there and give it a try!!!  I think the course installers made fairly good use of the property they had to work with.
I think they could have used more of the wooded area though to spread 15 thru 17 out a little more.

If you have not tried this course go out and do it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love & Peace

I got out here again tonight for the first time in a while.

Tee signs--Look nice. Several distances are not accurate. Here is a concept. Don't place the tee signs near the tee area.

Tee pads-SMB

HYZER/HYZER/HYZER city still. This just reinforced why I won't be heading out there often.

13 is now a HYZER hole for those that have the arm to throw it.  With the basket being moved to the tucked position and the tee being placed off the woods & deeper it's not that difficult of a shot to get over the trees crashing the green. Getting a 2 throwing a roller or anhyzer crashing thru the woods is not likely.

I keep wanting to lay up a putter to the edge of the woods on 13 where there is a nice window at the basket :) So far I've been missing that lay up.

ChrisE

Quick warning to anyone playing Antioch.  There are several wasp nests in the bushes on the left side of hole 1.  So while looking for discs be careful.  They are low to the ground in the bushes.
