I was able to hit 2 courses today. Very sunny & 70's today. I got burnt a little.

Arvada, CO
Johnny Roberts DGC

Very nice public park. Super busy with disc golfers and tons of pedestirans in this multiuse park. Shorter technical course. The creek ran down the middle of the park and came into play with pins very close. Very hard retrieving discs in the river. Super fast flowing and very steep banks. Fun to play.

Denver, CO
Badlands DG Course @ Camenisch Park

Awesome course with huge elevation. Super long holes with multi pin positions on every hole. Mostly open but well placed trees, use of sloping greens and water made this course play tough. Nearly had an ace on Hole #12 drilling the chains. Roc shot over water & thru the trees.  Hole #1 sits on top the hill and plays over 600 feet. Was able to reach the pin so this will tell you how much elevation is there. This course is very demanding & I was beat when we finished. There was another 9 holes in a very wooded section of the course that has recently been added. They looked very awesome with water, tight woods, & elevation. They had tone poles for those 9 holes and we did not have time to play them. It took us over 2 hours to play the original 18. Excellent course.

brett,  in the future, you should give me a call when heading to denver, you know that's my town...
if you read this and are still in colorado and need any advice on where to go, stay, eat, drink or play, you have my number.  gosh, i could have hooked you up with places to stay at fellow disc golfers homes.

anyway, enjoy your time in the high country.  i'll be there in less than a month visiting.
have the good fun.

Spike,

Yesterday was probably the only day I will  be able to play and I really liked both courses. If I were to get to play 1 more what would you play? I was going to call you but my buddy said these were the 2 best coursed around so I trusted him. We've had a free place so that is cool. Last night we went to the Soiled Dove to see Tim Reynolds. My wife is a big DMB fan. Pretty cool place. Off to Coors Field today for a tour then heading to Breck on a scenic drive. Tomorrow Coors Plant tour and Check out Red Rocks.

right on, brett.  sounds like you are having a blast.  a lot of the mountain courses are not ready for play yet (they call this "mud season") and some won't open until memorial day. it depends on the winter they've had.  there is a great course on the way to breck, in frisco called peak one, truly a fine course overlooking lake dillon, but i doubt it is ready for play yet.  I'll pm you the numbers of friends there.  one course that may be open and is a real ass-kicker, is on the south side of I-70 in empire, co., just past idaho springs and the eisenhower tunnel (the continental divide).  it is a 27 holer on the grounds of an easter seals camp, and is really cool.  call my buddy brett "chainz" marshall to find out of it is open.  if you are heading east of denver, about 70 miles out is ft morgan, out in the plains of eastern colorado.  fantastic course;  watch for western diamondback rattlers, coyotes and bald eagles.

before or after coors field, try the wynkoop brewery for food and microbrew (the owner is now denver's mayor).  also great;  breckenridge brewery, tamayo for upscale mexican, tommy tsunami's for sushi, sullivan's for steaks, or try vesta dipping grill.  all within walking distance of coors field in LoDo.  also a great place for steaks and game is the buckhorn exchange the oldest restaurant in colorado (liquor license #1).  look for teddy roosevelts (un-filled) elk tag and JFK's fishing license hanging on the wall amongst the stuffed mounted trophies of just about every creature on noah's ark, and have the "buffalo bill", cody's favorite cocktail.

red rocks is beautiful, you can go in to the town of morrison for burritos and cerveza's at the morrison inn, or go to the fort in morrison for old west cowboy cooking.

if you see any of my old friends, tell them spike says hey.  have the good fun.

btw, it is the "soiled" dove, but i think spoiled sounds funnier.  was it warm enough to go on the roof, "above the dove"?
have the good fun.

Brett,
One thing I've always wanted to know about Coors, and perhaps you could ask your tour guide at the plant, is why they can't produce a halfway decent beer. :D

I'm headed to Denver/Boulder this weekend.  I won't get to play much, maybe one round.  Other than Badlands, which sounds great from Brett's description.  Any have other suggestions for great courses in the Denver/Boulder/Golden area?  If I can only play one, which shoud it be?

I might be able to get to courses in the mountains, but I'm not sure.

speaking of CO im moving out there this week for school UNC.  I hear that the course at estes park is nice and last year when I was out that way I played the course at the YMCA of the Rockies and that course was sweet.  I also hear that frasier is cool too.  If possible you should try to play any of the courses that are actually in the mountain range.

Working Stiff

From the Mile High Disc Golf Club web site, a thread where out-of-towners asked the locals where they should play.
