Hey everyone come this June I will be in San Fransicso for 7 days for Apple's WWDC.  While there I figured I would take in some of the weather doing some disc golf.

Is anyone familiar with any of the courses out that way?  I'm staying downtown (299 2nd Street) and would prefer to hit local places reacheable by public trans.  I am willing though to fork over some cab fare if there is a course thats worth making the trip to.

Sooooo, Any recommendations?

Also any suggestions for bringing my gear?  I'm thinking the best idea would be to throw my discs and my folded up bag in a suitcase and just check it in.  Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Actually that might not be a bad idea.. you get one cary on and one under the seat bag I believe... Throw the discs in the overhead and my laptop bag under the seat.

Do not miss Golden Gate Park-easliy reached by bus. You will want to spend all day there as there is alot of other attractions. This place is huge like Central Pak in NY. Even a free bus that can move you around the park.
Aquatic Park in Berkeley is on the other side of the bay-probably a $20 cab ride, but great views of the bay and downtown San Fran. Save some $ for dinner at Spangers Fish Grotto near the park.

Neither course is great, but all of the others are much farther from downtown and you would need a car.

Berkley was also designed & installed by Mike Cozzens of Sandy Point fame.

I was out there recently.  I didn't play that near San Fran.

I heard that Aquatic in Berkeley is pretty decent, and really pretty at sunset.  I heard there was one in Golden Gate park, but couldn't find any details on it.

You can actually take the BART to Berkeley.  I doubt the course is within walking distance from there, but it would be a much cheaper cab ride.  I have to think there's a stop within a couple of miles of the park.

It is not close and wouldn't be cheap to get to, but if somehow you find a cheap way to get there, there is an amazing course in Novato (about an hour or hour and a half north of San Fran.  It is one of the most amazing courses i have played on, just for the setting.  It is way out away from everything on the side of a hill and next to a lake.  I have never played a course truly out in nature, so for me it was pretty amazing.  I can't say how it compares to other similar courses.  It is $5 a day to play, but well worth it.

There's also a fairly nice course in or near Fairfield (a little closer to San Fran).  I wouldn't say it's worth an expensive trip, but if you happen to be near by, it might be worht checking out.  It is on the same side of the bay as Berkeley, so if you're already over there, it might not be that far.  I don't remember exaclty.

Have fun!

Oh, and I personally just threw a few discs in my carry on and no one said a word at security either time, but I only took 3 discs.

I took my DG bag through security at the Charlotte airport last week.  A TSA employee asked if she could look in it, held up my Avenger, and said to her co-worker "Look, flying saucers!"

I played Berkeley last May. I was not impressed. There is strong wind that comes in off the bay. Some of the holes are interesting, but I would not consider it a destination course.

last year at this time I was out there and the Golden Gate course was closed for expansion, but now it looks like the 18 are all in.  I tried playing Berkeley once a few years ago but there were a lot of people laying around the course. Literally. It's Berkeley, after all....

It's worth renting a car for 2 days and going north to Novato one day, and definitely going down to Santa Cruz for the other. There might be reasonable train or bus service to Santa Cruz.
(have fun Jay)

I will be in San Francisco next week for work and plan on hitting up Golden Gate park if I have time to get out and play.

Found time yesterday. The course is pretty nice and very wooded. Its laid out as 2 9 hole rounds so you can play as little or as much as you want.
Many fairways cross or are otherwise near pedestrians. Several areas of vegetation and a couple tees are protected from inbound drives by 7' tall nets.

The local club is huge. A couple people I met up with said their weeklies draw over 200 on a regular basis.

A must to play at least once, very wooded. Cool ambiance, everybody's very friendly.

If I'm in town again I'll be bringing my discs and would play here again.
