A fun tournament as usual. Barry played this year for the first time in awhile. Shot -32 over 40 holes and won by 2, but he didn't have the hot score either round;  a -15 (somebody shot 16) and a -17 (somebody had 18).  Full field with pros from IA, Oregon and maybe Ohio.

McManus is too modest to post but he came from 4th to 1st with a -10 the 2nd round to win adv masters. He sure shoots good for such an old guy. I had a fairly decent 1st round but my string of 7 straight not-completely-terrible tournament rounds this spring came to an end with my opening drive of the 2nd round and I never could figure out why none of the shots that worked in the morning did any good in the afternoon.

There was a big article in the local paper about the Rec day Saturday, with a 'cute' shot of Barry caddying for his 6-yr-old nephew (awww....). The lead paragraph described how a 15-yr-old girl aced #15 but wasn't in the ace pool. Not sure of the complete accuracy of that, since #15 is probably the most difficult 'aceable' hole on that course, but it was a good story nonetheless.

yeah, I figured it had to be one of the temp holes... still a great shot though.

Are you refering to Katie Stauss?  She hit an ace during the first round of the Pickle.  She's 21 though, not 15.  She's an extremely talented disc golfer.  She just became a PDGA member and will be playing Am Worlds.  WIthout a doubt, she'll be one of the top contenders.  You should see her throw a putter!

The article Damon was likely referring to mentions a 15 year old kid.

It was Saturday, and it was "Sammie Brunner". Guessing she might be related to Mark Brunner.

Were there any other aces on Sunday? We 'heard' one the 2nd round, so if Katie's was in the morning then apparently so... I didn't stick around for the awards as I needed to get home - although I really wanted to hear Tom's victory speech. Seriously, if he said what he told me he was going to say, I really wanted to hear it!  ;D
thanks,
Damon

While playing a practice round on the course Sunday Morning I met John Stach (#25314).  He is from Tualatin Oregon. I think that he said he was in town for his sister's wedding and it worked out he could play in the Pickle.

He said that he doesn't get a chance to play many tourneys, but in 2004 he said work took him to Japan when the Japan Open took place.  I think he said it was his second sanctioned event.  Any way the Japan Open first round is random pairing, and he ends up playing with Ken Climo.

I said to him the Pickle is random draw first round maybe you will end up with Barry. We talked before the round started and he ended up on Barry's card.  What are the chances of a 860+ rated player playing two events three years and thousands of miles apart playing with Barry Schulz and Ken Climo?

So two women hit aces? Sweet!  That's a fun article too.  It puts a positive spin on disc golf and shows the sport is for everybody.

SERG

Katie Stauss aced hole 5 the first round. Ben Singer also aced the first round, I believe hole 3. He also aced hole 15C in practice. Both Katie and Ben were playing their first rounds with Barry also. Barry signed a $5 bill before giving to her. I think they split the ace pool which was nearly $200. No aces the second (at least not anyone in the ace pool). I actually think there was one ace but he didn't put in the pool.

I don't recall a "speech" by Tom...what happened?

I told Damon I was going to thank Steve Nichols for not showing up, but I chose not to say anything.
