Much better course now. Still short but not so super short. Shot -5, -4, -3 today.

Hole #1 is the same.
Hole #2 was moved further right.
Hole #3 is much tougher now. It plays to the old #4 basket and is the toughest hole on the course.
Hole #4 has the same tee as old #5 but the basket is placed in the woods far left of where old #5 basket was.
Hole #5 is the same as old hole #6.
Hole #6 is the same as old hole #7.
Hole #7 has been moved farther back & crosses over #6's fairway to the same basket of old hole #8.
Hole #8 is old #9 but the tee is moved back & is much tougher now.
Hole #9 is totally new playing back towards tee #1.

The tee pad to hole #1 has now been moved back to where the tee sign is. Much longer & tougher now.

Hole #7 tee pad has also been moved back & left making a tough anhyzer.

This course has grown in very green & thick. With the changes in design this course is actually a pretty solid 9-holer.

Combined with the alternates, this is a pretty solid 18 hole course as well.  I really enjoy playing here.

Tees #1, 2, 8 & 9 are clear of snow/ice. Tees # 5& 6 should be clear in a day or two. The rest of the tee pads have quite a bit of snow on them.

Got out here for the first time in a while. The course is looking very good. The rough is super thick in places but the fairways look great.

There still are some mutant skeeters out there though.

Played Grayslake yesterday. Course was in good condition. Very little mud.

They have done some clearing of brush with wood chip piles everywhere. It's very similar to the clearing that was done at Adler. The only hole that was really affected for the worse is hole #4. The middle clump of rough is nearly gone.

I stopped by last Monday and today. Course is in pretty decent condition. It's not too muddy. Tee #3 has a little ice on the back part. I cleaned off quite a bit today.

Sometime over the winter a bunch of trees were cut down on #9. The low hanging branches in the middle of the fairway are gone. That entire tree is gone. You can now throw a direct line shot at the basket. The 2 trees to the right of the basket in the rough are gone as well. There used to be no putt if you landed on that corner. Now it's pretty wide open green area.

I walked the course with the Supt of Grayslake Parks today. He is the former Supt of Round Lake Parks. We've got a pretty good relationship. We spent and hour on the course and watched a few groups play.

His first priority is to get all 9 tee signs back in the ground. A few are missing from the post and one post is gone. He said he'd get that done as soon as possible.

I had 2 goals that I wanted to accomplish when I met with him.

#1 Tee Pads
In a perfect world I was hoping they would expand and extend the tee pads. Just like everything else money is an issue and upgrading them all probably will not happen. He did see how #3 was short and dangerous with the dropoff in the front. He's going to try to find a way to fix that tee area. The tee may not get extended or widened by concrete but it will probably get filled around with dirt and wood chips.

#2 Multi baskets.
I really pushed this as my #1 priorty. I'm trying to get them to order a set of DGA Mach 5's to put another basket on each hole. l also pushed for an elevated basket on one of the holes. I attached a photo of one of the pictures I gave him. The good news is the board had already discussed multiple pin positions. He did not rule out the possibility of the multi basket idea but he said it would take some time with funds. Getting other board members on board is key. He did say he's going to push for the ordering of 1 basket to try the elevated basket. That might open the door to the other 8 getting ordered.

#3 Crossing fairway
He is not a disc golf guy. He did an assessment of all the parks last year. He couldn't believe there was a crossing fairway. He really wants to take care of this issue. There may be a change to the course in the future.

This may or may not happen. It will definitely not happen overnight. Hopefully some of this gets done.

Getting things evened out around those teepads would be fantastic.  I was over here on Sunday and it seems like this course gets thicker with each passing year.  Its a jungle off the fairway.

I stay away from Grayslake in the summer. I can't find my discs in an open field.

CEValkyrie

It's definitely grown in thick. They have done a nice job of mowing the fairways wider. They moved down the left side on #6 which helps a lot.

Graylaked installed new metal posts and nice tee signs on every hole.

They took the wood lining the tee of #3 and filled around the tee pad with dirt. Same tee pad basically.

I exchanged some e-mails with the executive director today. Here is what he replied.

Hi Brett

Thanks for the email.  Glad the signs look good.  The second basket is still a possibility, but I'll have to see how other projects shake out this fall and next spring.  As you know, I won't forget.  It's just matter of squeezing things in.  ballpark number for 9 more baskets?

Nehila's a good guy to work with. My Cub Scout pack pitched in on a workday cleaning up Gray's Lake last June.

He's definitely a good guy to work with. I talked to him many times when he was with the Round Lake Park District.

Played Grayslake for the first time last night. The tee signs are very nice but I noticed someone ripped off the sign on Hole 8 .

It was a little nerve wrecking though with peewee football in full swing, little kids were randomly popping out of walking paths and into the fairways.  Hit basket on 2 holes, and didn't lose a disc. Good times.

It's amazing how big of assholes there are out there. Can't even keep very nice tee signs on the course for more than a few weeks. WTF!!

Warren Township said they won't be replacing tee signs due to vandalism.

I was disappointed to see that last night as well.

Also had the random kids running around the course during my round.  I'd be willing to bet it was one of them that tore down the sign.  Those little ones can cause some major damage very quickly.
