there is a petition on the pdga web site we all should sign.  there is a course in texas they are taking out to put in an rv park.  check it out.  this is a great time for us to be reminded that our courses are on city or state land.  pick up your trask.  if you see someone breaking branches tell them to stop.  if you see someone litter, tell them to stop.  it is our course but we are there by invitation and that invitation can be taken back.  be courteous out there.

Working Stiff

The petition is to save Barry's Treasure, the last Worlds course left on Pleasure Island in Port Arthur, TX.

For those that don't remember, Pleasure Island had four world-class courses and hosted back-to-back PDGA Worlds in 1994-95. Now it seems that the last of these courses has been voted into extinction due to greed. The petition says:
QuoteHowever, Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in an effort to develop the area, the Port Arthur City Council voted in favor of demolishing the park to make way for a 19 acre RV Park. The initiative is being spearheaded by Motiva Enterprises, with the intention that the park be used as temporary housing for their contracted laborers while working a massive construction project. They plan to destroy the most beautiful landscape of the entire island to set up what amounts to a laborer's camp.

I saw another article on this that did not sound good.  The article makes the RV park sound like a done deal.

Also, the petition right now has 1,885 signatures.  It has been on the PDGA website for at least a week, and we couldn't even get 2,000 lousy signatures?  It's going to take more like 10,000 signatures to get any attention.  I was really disappointed by the response.  Hell,  I could walk around on courses for a couple of weekends and get 2,000 signatures from casuals.  I would have thought PDGA members would have responded in bigger numbers.
