I like the new holes 5A-F. My favorite is A-I like the shape of the fairway. It adds a little challenge to the hole. Thanks to the WPD, Brett, and any othe course designers for the forethought on the new 6 holes :)

Quit work, play disc golf :)

I concur.  I liked all of them and thought A was the best.  Given what there is to work with out there, I thought they were really well laid out and the pin placements/elevated pins added a nice challenge in lieu of trees.  By themselves, perhaps not standout (with the possible exception of A), but they lend nice balance to the course as a whole.  It's now a legit and good 18 holer.  Thanks for all the work everyone put in to make it happen.

the new holes kicked my a$$

i think they are good holes as its risk vs reward on putting at elevated baskets

they counter/contrast the older holes very well

if i could putt i would have scored better

thanks to all who helped run this event
it was worth the 2.5 hr drive home
next year i might just stay in a hotel up there

Here is the final bag tag challenge sheet. I've done a little editing to take out the tags that were not there ( or weren't put in  ;) )

I need to publicly apologize to Terry Miller and David Barish. As myself and Brian were placing the new tag assignments we missed them and messed up the numbers a little. MOST of the people did receive the tag they were supposed to receive. There were, I believe, two tags that were not picked up. I think Mirth has them.

Anyhow, attached is the .xls document.

Congrats to the winners and thanks to everyone involved for putting in the time to run this event. Beautiful day for golf!

2009 Discontinuum Bag Tag #??? - Can't Find It!

stpitner

nice to see that 4 of the top 10 tags surfaced.  That 8 has been passed around quite a bit, that's the one that I first had when they were handed out (but I didn't have it for long!) 56 out of 61 players turned in their bag tag, and I know that I'm one of the 5 that did not turn it in.  It didn't help that I showed up minutes before it was time to go out to the tees since my supposed to be travel time of 1 hr, 10 minutes turned into just under 2 hours.  I wonder what the other 4 had :)  I have a high number, so it wouldn't have helped out anyone at the top anyway.

No problem with me. Save it for Terry.  All you need is to slow the progression of alzheimers. You gave me my tag.  I was not on the list and you figured out that I had 124 which you gave me.  Thanks. And, Thanks for keeping track of the tags with a spreadsheet.

when i went to get my tag it said i should get 4 but if terrys got 8 now i can trade with him in kenosha, i guess i left before the mistake was discovered... ???

I happened to be right there when Terry picked his up and if I'm not mistaken, he just took the lowest left, which was 12.

maybe it would be worthwhile to consider multiple divisions now that the tournament seems to be growing?

Since there is no entry fee i'd like to keep it to 1 amateur division. For players wanting more points this helps drastically. Besides the $10 entry fee for pros this really was 1 big division. Would there be a benefit for adding more divisions?

I think running the tournament like one big division makes it the Club Championship. It makes it different and stands out from all the other tournaments.

I think we should consider running it like a Swedish tournament and have everyone play Pro with a $5 entry fee for all. This is truly the ams paying for the pro payout, but we would know upfront where our money is going. With the way that Brett pairs as many groups with one pro it would be a way to say "Thanks for the lesson". Brett could still pair as many groups as possible with a real pro even if everyone else was also in the pro division.

It definitely does stand out. A thread was started on PDGA.com about  the crazy names I added to the tour page. Number of visits to the DISContinuum site doubled the 4 days prior to the event. Sticking to web stats. July & August have set record usage for the website. with over 5,000 unique visitors. Prior to that we had not broke 4,000. We have a shot at 6,000 for August.

Since there is no entry fee and no payout, there is really no reason to break up the amateur field into divisions.  What 60 players on a Friday says to me is, "You don't need to change a thing."  The only thing I'd change is the name, from Discontinuum Invitational to Discontinuum Club Championship.

I agree that everyone grouped together is better. No worrying about ratings and it lets you see how you stack up against other club members, regardless of division.

Serg,

There is no need to apologize.  I certainly know what it's like to be running something and then all of a sudden something doesn't go perfectly.  People didn't turn in tags, people picked them up early or late or whatever.  I am really not upset in any way, shape, or form about it.  I won't be doing any club or Sergio bashing over this.  Disc golf is meant to be fun and the people that get worked up over the little things really need to get a grip on disc golf and life in general.

Thanks for all of the hard work that you do for every single club and event around the Midwest.  You truly step up (even when not asked) and that's impressive to me.  I know that's how I got my feet wet with the behind the scenes of disc golf nearly 12 years ago and that taught me to ask questions before assuming anything or complaining.  Thanks again!

Ter

PS - I did leave with tag 12 that day because it was the 3rd lowest tag sitting on the ground.  Maybe I should have gotten 4 or 8 or whatever but it really doesn't matter to me.

I wanted to put this in as a new post versus it getting lost in a response about the bag tag stuff...

As I said on Friday, I have been a regular member and supporter of that club for many years.  I enjoy coming down to Bevier Park in particular but I also enjoy the format of this event and I see all of the positive things that come from the Discontinuum Club.

I think Brett is one of the most stand up guys in all of disc golf.  He is a promoter, an ambassador, and a fierce competitor on top of it.  I can't thank him enough for the time and energy he has volunteered at Am Worlds and all of his other disc golf endeavors.

Thank you to the Club and everyone associated with it.  I am glad to be a member and I am happy to relinquish my title to Tom Schodtler as the new Club Champion.  Tom and Brett both played pretty well that second round and it was a good battle to watch.  Maybe I'll see you guys later this fall or early next spring!

It was a geat day of disc golf! Thank you to all the club members!

I have the #8 tag. I thought that was the one I was supposed to get. I will bring it to Parkside on Saturday and we can switch tags and get it all right. Honestly I like having the higher tags....makes it a little more fun. I wouldn't have wanted to sort all that out. You two did an awesome job and if there were only a few mistakes, not bad at all. See you Saturday.

again a big thanks to serg for the effort

i was trying not to be looking over his shoulder but i knew kev c had to get packed for his trip the next day
and it was going to be a long drive home in rush hour traffic and it was his first bag tag

we were bumper to bumper   in traffic around the ohare oasis
when the golden child called and reminded me she had guitar practice at 6
first time in months that her teacher and her did not have other things going
and i would have hated to have her miss another lesson

got to say thanks to my buddy who dropped what he was doing with 20 minutes notice
and drove her to and from guitar that night

i think i got home around 730 after stopping at dominicks for 5 dollar pizza

again a great time - makes the long trip worth it
