If you haven't seen this show on Discovery, it is the best show on television.  I use the skills Bear has given me during rounds in extreme conditions.  Just last week in Rockford I had to drink my own urine to make it through the round.  If that seems ridiculous, just watch the Australia episode where he actually does it!  I'm not sure what is worse, drinking your own urine, or drinking water out of elephant feces like he did on the Africa episode.

I strongly advise everybody check this show out.

Dan, I completely agree with you. This show rocks & this guy is freakin amazing. 3 years in the British SAS, only left 'cause he broke his back in 3 places. After 2 years? of rehab, he became the youngest Briton to climb Mt. Everest at age 23.

I'd have to say drinking water from elephant feces is worse, but if you get the chance Dan, please let us know how the taste is compared to your own urine, seeing as you drank it at Rockford.

back on topic of M vs W, I like this show so much better than survivorman. Sure, SM was seemingly alone and had to carry all his own camera gear but MvW ups the risk factor. Maybe thats why its so appealing...

With all the wind, bees, wasps, ground hornets, rain, and poison ivy so far this year on the IOS, I was thinking it should also be named man vs. wild.  Would make a great hot stamp.

Use of Cast/Crew
There are several instances in which Bear has obtained the assistance of the cast/crewmembers or other outside sources, which are inconsistent with his assertion that the crew has been instructed to abstain from helping him unless he is in a dire situation.

Grylls admitted wearing a flotation device in the pilot episode to ride down a river, specifically for a staged shot. It should be noted that he was displeased with the decision, which came from Discovery producers, and has since been able to avoid the use of such devices.

The director of the Desert Island episode, Graham Strong, noted that a diver was at hand to check for sharks while Bear was adrift. Also in the Copper Canyon, Mexico episode, director Scott Tankard says that the local indian tribe, the Rarámuri indians, acted as their guides throughout the filming.

According to the survival consultant for the show's Sierra Nevada and Desert Island episodes, Mark Wienart of Lifesong Adventures, the wild horses in the Sierra Nevada episode were domesticated horses shipped from Nevada.

Wienart also writes in his blog that he was hired to build the raft Bear used in the Desert Island episode. The raft was bound together primarily from rope, he says, not natural cordage.
