Fox Metro Discer

I don't know how, but my rating went up 2 points this time. I was for sure that after worlds I would be back under 915 again. Some of my ratings for Worlds were a bit lower than the unofficial, but were generally pretty close. But any improvement will be taken with a smile ;D

Yea the worlds ratings were all jacked up. I went up this update to the highest I've been before so I'm happy about that!

Well, since getting most of my right arm back, I've kind of peaked at 940.  I'm trying to decide if I should (a) practice or (b) deal with it.  I'm not really a Type A kind of guy.

They may have been doing online scoring, but the event isn't included in ratings updates until the TD report is submitted prior to the deadline *and* the event is paid.

Here's the break down: (for this example TD is the TD or anyone that the TD designates to do a particular step. For the purposes of the IOS we have a consortium of TDs that share TD responsibilities. The consortium consists of Bruce, Brett and me.)

1) A blank TD report is e-mailed to TDs at the beginning of the year and is available before any event.
2) [OPTIONAL for most events] TD fills in players into the "scores" tab as people register and uploads that to the PDGA online tool so that pre-reg players show up online in the PDGA tour page (for the IOS, Brett does this)
3) [OPTIONAL for most events] Sometime after the event the TD enters results and uploads them to the PDGA online tool so that people can see results and unofficial results online (at the IOS this is done by Scary Mike and/or me and we usually do it at the course before awards)
4) The TD submits the TD report (two reports for each IOS event! Lucky me!!) with full results including: pro and am payouts, entry fees, course use fees, CTP payouts, ace pool results, $5 day member fee, memberships collected, $2/$3 per person PDGA fees, course layout and distances for each round, weather conditions, DNFs, ams who played pro and declined cash, disqualifications, etc. (at IOS events this is done by me. My goal is to have this submitted by the end of the next weekend but I will always do whatever I need to do to get it in before the next ratings update. The PDGA requires the report and fees to be in within 30 days. They send a reminder around 45 days.  ::)  Not that I'VE ever been that late!)

So, even though you see online results fairly fast at some events, they might not get in for the ratings update if the TD is slower with the full TD report. I hope this is more information than anyone wanted to know about this process.

A lot of work!

Playing IOS events gets us spoiled and then when someone isn't as quick with results it seems as if they're dropping the ball by comparison.

Lumber Cup was submitted in a decent time frame so I'd expect the same of IL States.
The Olympia Fields results got in in a decent amount of time too (compared to previous years), so I'd expect to see IN States to get submitted in approx the same amount of time.

Heartfelt thanks from me to the Brakels, Brett, Mike, and everyone else that helps IOS events run so smoothly.

I've always been curious but haven't had the inclination to ask if they ever really do anything with some of that info. Like the weather info (if it's really bad they may not use it for ratings), aces hit, DNFs (it's in the scores tab already but they ask to explain each DNF...as if I know! Sometimes I remember "Oh, that dude went to his sister's wedding!" but usually I don't know why someone DNF'd), etc.

The weather info is now used for ratings. A recent change in the ratings calcs is that they are going to merge rounds on the same layout for ratings purposes unless there is a big weather difference between them. I think the DNF explanation is there if they need to follow up for 804.05.

btw Last year IL states didn't go official until January. Hopefully the wait isn't as long this year.

I hope it never goes official.  I tanked that one.     ;)

aha. That partly explains the weirdness w/ Am Worlds. Tuesday was clear & calm, Thursday was a monsoon for part of the day, but if you played the same course on those days the ratings are the same. Not sure what constitutes a 'big weather difference', but I think that would qualify. They apparently ignored it, and avg scores were nearly 2 shots higher on Thursday for my division.

Ah well, I'm really bored at work and this is the wrong place to be complaining anyhow.... ::)

[minor woo-hoo]

I went up 6 pts

I just got an email from PDGA that my rating had been adjusted due to 'corrections received'.

Looks like they decided not to rate the Pickle Open (X-tier) after all. I was surprised that they initially had, since they didn't last year (but had the years before).

I didn't see anything else offhand in the rating details that looked any different.

Anyhow, I gained another whole point!! Although this news about the Pickle probably won't make McManus happy....  8)

Have a few more rounds like yesterday afternoon and get a couple more of these "adjustments" and you'll get to be a donor in Advanced!
