The Byron Big D Weekend is Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28.  Doubles on Saturday, singles on Sunday.  $40 per amateur player, either day.  $50 for pros.  I'm not highlighting the trophy-only option, but I'll offer it if anyone asks.  Cart rental fees are what make this tournament expensive.  That is included in your entry fee.

At pdga.com in my signature line there's a link to more details.

111 players last year.  We're capping at 100 this year.

This is the funnest tournament I run.  It's like disc golf crossed with go carts.   ^_^  No one from Illinois will come to this [although Brett and Dan came out one year] but i would not want that to be from me not having let you know.

I just moved here to Chicago from Michigan, and I played in the Byron Big D Doubles last year. It was cold but man was it great. You get to drive around in a golf cart and play disc golf. It was great. I am looking forward to another great tournament in Michigan. My home land. I think it was one of the most interesting tournaments I ever played in.

P.S. Don't forget your hand warmers, gloves, long johns and winter hat. Just in case it's cold!!!!

Cashless pre-reg is moving really quickly on this.  Every time I check my e-mail, I've got another, and I did not even publish my e-mail address!

This is the most fun I've had at a tournament.  The course is sweet, long, challenging but fair.  Driving around golf carts on that nice of a course is also sweet.  And you are mistaken Bruce.  I will be there, with or without Taylor.

I've been posting on the pdga.com thread when I have players looking for partners.

Right now the pro field is 100% "added cash."  There are no super-teams, no good teams, pretty much all good-times teams in the pro field.  Brett and a long throwing player could take them, Brett and Dana, for instance.

70 players are signed up now for the doubles.  Room for 15 teams.

Elliot Fu:  I heard from Kira that you were playing the doubles with Phil Shelton, but I did not hear that from you or Phil.  I put you guys in Advanced, and I'll hold that spot for 48 hours.  I'll look for your contact info and try to confirm.  There is no Pro Master, but you and Phil are Advanced eligible by rating.

Brett Comincioli: I heard from you that you were trying to line up a big gun partner, but I get some of those guys names mixed up so, (a) I need you to confirm in 48 hours if you are in, and (b) tell me who your partner is.  I have you on the list in Open.  You guys would make a great team.  I would be very surprised if you did not finish first or second.

Bruce,

For some reason I thought the tournament was the following weekend. I have some family stuff this weekend and will be missing all disc golf avtivity this weekend.

For everyone,
Byron is by far the best fly18 course you'll ever play.

I run this tournament earlier in the year every year.  Maybe in August next year!

I took you out, Brett, and filled up again.  Elliot confirmed and is in.

I would like to see this tournament the weekend after Halloween. It was nice last year. It fit perfect in the schedule. But you are the TD so whatever you like is best.

There are problems with frost and daylight this late in the year.  We cannot get on the course until the frost melts.  Last year the frost delay almost ate up too much daylight.  The frost is completely unaware that we are still on daylight savings time.  It melts an hour later when you are on daylight savings time.

We get a lot less frost in August!   ;D

I'm crossing my fingers on the frost this year.  It is supposed to be cloudy and only get down to 38.  Maybe we'll just get dew.

The doubles are full, by the way, with teams on the wait list.  If there is no frost delay I might take 108 if they show up.

I remember last year....it was so cold our golf cart wouldn't start. Then once we got going we had to drive around for like five minutes so it could get warmed up. It was so much fun. Unfortunately I have other obligations this weekend and not able to play. From what I am reading it wouldn't have mattered anyway. You're all filled up. Can't wait till next year.

If the singles are a bust this year, next year we'll split weekend the doubles and skip the singles.

Meanwhile, pre-tournament rounds have been selling so well, the odds of getting a permanent course are looking much better.  They have sold so many pre-tournament rounds that they've decided to comp the pros on Saturday.

That would be so awesome if they made a permanent course. Would you be able to play the course anytime and co-mingle with ball golfers?

The course manager is totally sold on the idea of a permanent course but he does not know if he can sell the owner.  He averaged 20 rounds of disc golf per day in the two weeks leading up to the tournament.  Golfers get scarce in October, so that income really helped.  Their gross sales for the weekend were huge too.  I'm not going to post their numbers on the internet, but I'd tell you on the phone.

There's a lot of stuff I'd tell you on the phone, but real quickly, it was cold and rainy for the unsanctioned doubles.  We had 106 players and let them all in.  It was warm and sunny for the singles and it was very lightly attended.  So I went out and played.  I did the financials in the 20 minutes between when we closed registration and we were waiting for the frost to melt.  Since he was out of food and beer, the manager was totally cool with the light turn out on Sunday.  He was so happy with Saturday, on Sunday he was giving away for free his last couple dozen gatorades.

It was a good weekend mostly, except for a bit of unpleasantness to be concluded tomorrow.  I'd tell you more on the phone.
