Does anybody know if this is a new disc?  Or, is it an already-in-production Discraft midrange in ProLine plastic?

The press relase from DGA says:
QuoteDGA is excited to announce the launch of a new disc to our ProLine of professional golf discs.  The Shockwave midrange disc is going to be a hit with players.

The DGA Shockwave is a deadly accurate and overstable midrange driver that can be used to park drives and will make an impact on your approach game.  This disc provides a long flat flight pattern while being overstable enough to not flip over in the wind.  The Shockwave has true pin point accuracy with the right amount of speed to become your main midrange disc.

Nationwide Release Date:
October 1, 2007

DGA is planning a unique launch for this great new disc.  All First Flight Shortwaves will be made available on Monday, October 1st at 9:00 am EST.  We have teamed up with a group of top tier retailers in order to make this happen.  The stores involved in this unprecedented release have agreed to hold back the temptation of getting these out early so that the Shockwave can be felt all across the nation at the same time.
I guess the part where it says "First Flight Shortwaves" is a typo?  Anyway, Sun King already has them for sale, so much for the nationwide release date.

DGA says that it would be comparable to a 1.6 stability rating from Discraft, and I would presume that since Discraft makes DGA discs, that is a good number to go by.

By comparison a Wasp is 1.5, Torque 2.0, and Drone 2.5... so it's in between the Wasp and Torque, but should be closest to a Wasp.

I found out from a Discraft employee who is in manufacturing, not sales, that the Shockwave is the Torque.  Discraft was having problems getting it to consistantly produce a 2.0 overstable mid-range which was their intention from the design phase.  DGA was fine with it the way it is.  So they licensed it to DGA.

When it came out somebody was speculating that it had the Torque top.  I forget where I heard that.  I figured that it was the Torque when it never popped up on the approved list, as the Torque was already approved.  Of course, different names need approval even if the disc is the same.  I noticed that the Shockwave turned up on the approved list earlier this week.  I didn't take the time to see if all the Tech was the same as the Torque, but I'd imagine it would be.

It all makes sense.  The Torque was too close to the Wasp for Discraft to use.  Now DGA has a better Mid than the Squall and Discraft did not have to use the Buzzz/Wasp mold to get it to them.  Win/Win as far as I'm concerned.

Ha!  I've read the specs.  The Torque that was approved is not the Shockwave that was approved.  Maybe they retooled it and still did not get what they wanted and that is what they gave DGA.  Maybe my guy in the back does not know what he is talking about.  Maybe he is trying to help out DGA by saying it is the same mold.  I don't know.

There is a new disc on the list we have not seen yet, the Impact.  I think it is the ace race disc.  The same guy was telling me the ace race disc was going into production as an approved disc.

discraft.com on the main page by the proto disc says that it is PDGA approved, so putting 2 and 2 together - the Impact is indeed the ace race disc.

Also if you go to the main page for Ace Race 2007 it says right on it that the Ace Race disc is now called the Impact ;)
