I wanted to pass along some info that I read about some new Discraft discs that are now available.  No new molds, but a couple old molds in new plastic along with a new signature disc.

150-class X-Surge - The stability on this thing is only a 0.5 (same stability as a Buzzz), so it sounds like it would be a pretty good anhyzer disc.  The Surge isn't out in the X plastic other than this new 150-class disc, so it will be interesting to see the durability as well as how strong it flies.  If the mold is similar to the Innova Wraith, then the only comparison that Innova has to offer in that weight range is the DX Wraith.  I would expect the X-Surge to far outlast a DX Wraith.

FLX XL - That's a lot of consonents!  I haven't thrown the XL at all really, but it tends to be one of the more popular models that I sell from Discraft believe it or not.  Comparible to about an Innova Speed 7 disc, it sounds like it could be a great new fairway driver to add to your bag.  Stability Rating: 1.5

Nate Doss Signature ESP Surge - The Two Time world champ now has his autograph adorning one of Discraft's top models - the ESP Surge.  Similar to what Innova has now done with the Star Wraith and the KC stamp, Discraft has also updated their stamp to commemorate Nate's 2005 and 2007 Pro Worlds victories.  Congrats to Nate and hat's off to Discraft for an excellent disc.

The XL is a great driver for tunnel shots.  I usually throw the Buzzz for that throw but the XL will go a little farther.

I'll be getting some of the FLX XLs and the 150 Surges in my next order.

I feel the XL or Z XL is a great all around disc....great for beginners but it grows with you, too!

I compare the elite Z XL to a slightly more stable Tee-bird,  same speed and glide for me....

When he wrote that I assumed he meant Teebird L.  I think the XL compares to a TL for stability, distance, and shape of the rim.

Working Stiff

Pointless thought...The XL and TeeBird came out about the same time, in '98-'99.  Although I have not purchased a new one in years, I understand that the X XL is pretty much the exact same disc that came out in '98.  I've had four or five different kind of discs called a "TeeBird" since '99, and I don't think either the current TeeBird or TL mold is the same as the first run TeeBird.

That pretty much sums up the difference between Innova and Discraft for me.  You can argue that either approach is better (Innova updates their products and tries to improve them, Discraft has a consistent and dependable product) but they are different approaches to the business of making golf discs...pointless thought complete.

I haven't been around in disc golf long enough to see a whole bunch of the changes, but if Innova keeps wanting to make little retools to their stuff, they really should start doing the same sort of thing that Millennium does with version numbering on the discs.  It sure does help people out with the 8x or 10x KC Pro Aviar's even if that's not the intent of the hot stamp.

I kinda like what Discraft does with the Ace Race - they try out a disc for a mass audience, gets them some publicity, and hopefully they find a winning new model that will come out with a new name and hopefully stay out there.  I like the consistency of the Discraft models as well.

Bruce, can you get blank Challengers for a decent price?  I am looking for 8 around 170ish..  p.m. me if you want..
Let us hope that the whores of evil no longer loiter on the doorsteps of your path beckoning you into the brothel of despair, and that here and after may present them with the most rigid manistfestation of a firm and manly will.

The bottom line on those grippy blank Discraft putters is that they are not available to the public yet.  They are play testing the plastic to see how it wears.  It might or might not go into production later this fall or winter.  I cannot purchase them.  They may pop up on e-bay.  Expect the protos to be pricey, because everyone who is throwing them likes them.

I was tossing a 150 Surge with Kira at the soccer field.  We were driving somewhere trying to figure out where we could throw this thing that would be on the way there and I said, "Oh, there are soccer fields behind the police station.  We'll go right by there.  Those soccer fields are wide open."  And Kira said, "As opposed to some other soccer fields that are narrow and full of trees?"

Anyway, this is a pretty nice 150 driver.  Kira does not have good form for throwing 150 stuff so I was letting her throw down wind and I threw back up wind.  It was flying a lot further than her 164 ESP Surge.  I could throw it into a light headwind with a hyzer flip and Kira could throw line drives with it down wind.  I think downwind at Byron I could really bomb this thing.

The plastic is a little different.  They are calling it X but it feels D.  I'm not sure how it will wear.

I got an FLX XL in my USWDGC players pack. I like the feel of the plastic but as a 1.5, it hyzers a lot when I think it's my Elite XS of the same color. I like it though and won a second one with a roc as a CTP. I'll have to play some more with it.

Good to see Brakel sarcasm didn't skip a generation

I'll be getting a FLX XL, but I'm not taking part in the proto-on-ebay bidding war....

I have done nothing to suppress my kids' sense of humor.  So they are early bloomers, humoristically speaking.

If I had said something like that to my dad, he would have :MEGA1: me!
