Hey Everyone,

For the remainder of the year, I am acting president of the Disc Golf Alley Club.  In an effort to help the club end the year with a bang, we have some upcoming tournaments that I hope you come out and attend!

Many details will come out soon, but be sure to save these dates!

Saturday, November 10th - Bevier (All Divisions)
Saturday, November 17th - Bevier (Pro/Adv)
Sunday, November 18th - Bevier (Int/Rec/Jr)
Sunday, November 25th - Clark Park -> Roselle -> Streamwood 18 -> Streamwood 9 (date may have to be moved back to the 24th, but I'm going to try to keep it the 25th)

Get excited :)  Many more details coming out soon!

Last year it was sunset about 4:30, but it was Clark Park -> Buffalo Grove -> Highland Park -> Libertyville -> Mundelein, started at 8AM, we were done before 4pm, and we also had an hour lunch.  Drive times were a lot longer than this one will be.  If we have a bigger turnout though, it might be a little tougher.

I guess bring some glow gear to help finish up that last round!  ;D

I don't want to diminish the other tournaments too much, but as long as all of the approvals go through ok - the November 17th-18th dates will be a C-tier sanctioned tournament.  The sanctioning agreement and payment has been made, but I'm waiting to hear back from them on the matter that I'm waiting to find out of I passed the Official's Exam (and giving that you have to submit rule numbers along with your multiple guess answers when emailing it in, I better pass!)

Do the Bevier dates conflict w/ Fall League at Bevier? Just wondering.  I will try to  make it out on the 18th because I need to get 2006 Fairfield wiped away.  I need to play another tournament since I was outta town yesterday. I figure I could play Right handed and still do better than Fairfield 2006. :P

Scott - assuming a mid/late november tournament won't fill. Should we just fit in the gaps w/your tournament groups?

cripes, I completely forgot about the best shot leagues.  Sorry about that!  When I talked to Brett about the dates I don't know if he thought about that or not as well.

It shouldn't be a problem to let you guys go out there to play intermixed.  The only weird thing will be slotting them in because the tournament will already be an hour underway.  It's only one round on the best shot, correct?  You'll probably be able to do 2/3'rds of the round while the rest of the people are playing, they would finish a little before noon, and the rest of the best shot would go quickly then.

I definitely don't want to have to make you cancel leagues.

I won't cancel league ;)

Yeah, we start at 10 and depending on turnout wrap up by noon. league regulars are also tournament players so as long as your tournament participants know there's a regular doubles league that may be on the holes at the same time I think we'll be able to commingle alright.

oh yeah, I would definitely announce during the Sunday player meeting that there's going to be some people mixing in to play best shot doubles.  Depending on the turnout, I may try to leave a couple extra hole gap that would be timed decently enough to be passing through hole 1's area around 10AM, and then you can start your groups on 1-2-3 or something like that.  What's the league's average attendance?  12 or so?  More? Less?

All I know is that I only brought up the tournament to perhaps 1 or 2 people, but I had at LEAST 10-12 people come up to me and ask about it - so word of mouth is spreading, and any decent weather at all will hopefully have a decent turnout!  It makes for some nice end of year points and ratings :)

Or, will the likely turnout at that time of  year make for a nice and full course on Saturday with all divisions on the course at the same time and Fall League on Sunday?  Just throwing out the idea.  Do you expect more than 100 players?  If not, you only need one day. Bevier is now 18 and adding temps is pretty easy.  From your perspective, why come out two days when you can get it all done in one?

mirth

we try to leave a few hole gap between groups so there's no waiting, but anything will work I'm sure.
attendance has been very low lately, but I'm hoping that since all the high draw area events are done for the year it will start picking up again. I won't know until the day of, of course, what attendance will be but in the weeks leading up I should be able to see a trend one way or the other.

I hear that, but more for my side of AMs. I like playing Saturday to have a day to recover from the beer I need to drink after posting my scores   :-\

stpitner

It's two days because of a couple of reasons:
1) it's my first tournament as TD of a sanctioned event, and if I have a 100-person field I think I'm going to go more nutso trying to figure out proper payouts for many many divisions.
2) I've already turned in a sanctioning agreement for a 2-day event.
3) I want availability for a nice turnout in case the weather is nice and a lot of people want to come out - there's no tournaments in Wisconsin that weekend, and Waukegan is close to the border.
4) If they do turn out to be about 50-person fields, then I can do some 3-somes and some 4-somes for faster play to get everyone done and out before it gets dark.
5) If I ran a 1-day, it would probably be on the Saturday, and there has already been plenty of complaints about not being able to make it because the person has to work on a Saturday.  If/when I run more tournaments in 2008 I'll probably either do single days or when I split days I'll mix up what divisions play on Saturday or Sunday.  You just catch the posts, mark the day on the calendar, you're good to go.
6) Less people surrounding the merch tables (unless the fields are maxed, that would be sweet).

There are going to be 2 temp holes - probably similar if not the same to the club challenge, for the sanctioned event.

Go easy on me, I'm new to this :P  I was just finding out about the sport of disc golf at the end of the IOS series where pro's played Sunday.  I'm also still waiting for the ok from the PDGA.  I'm hoping there won't be any problems there either.

And the Turkey Bowl I moved to the 25th because rumor has it that Terry might want to run a tournament on the 24th.

No problem Scott, I think tenny & I were just voicing, not directed at you in particular. I'm sure you'll be a great TD. Bruce, Jon, and Brett are all great TDs and if you follow their examples you'll get no complaints. (at least from me  >:D)

i hope terry does the "Cold turkey" again,
Scott-i appreciate your efforts to extend the tournament season also, i travel to as many as i can and its nice when they are in the Chicago area
