Going to be a VERY busy 2008 for Illinois disc golf, exciting :)

so i been looking at tournaments and noticed that none of them are following the new class divisions? Did they ditch the idea or is it a choice thing?

Bruce Brakel

What tournaments are you looking at?  PDGA tournaments have two choices this year: Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational, Novice with the new ratings breaks, or the color system with the same new ratings breaks.  I've been calling them Am 1, 2, 3, and 4, because we all know what that means, but I keep forgetting which one is Rec and which one is Nov.

A lot of TDs are not offering Am 4 because they are stupid.  Long live stupidity.  Am 4s are welcome at IOS events.

So far this year, three tournaments have had participants competing in the Novice division, but only one out of the three has had more than 3 people.

You know what that means, but not everyone who reads this board does.  Since the PDGA results pages refer to it as the divisions as Advanced, Intermediate, Recreational, & Novice, we should all use that nomenclature to avoid confusing anyone looking for answers to FAQ's.

Nevermind i saw the article in DGW that explained the names. I  thought the were still going off the elite/expert, advanced, int, novice

12 novice players at today's Abominable snowman event, pretty good start for a not very well advertised division.  There is DEFINITELY plenty of confusion with the new rating break points though if you haven't really been paying attention to what is going on.

Using my incredible awesome IOS thread moderator powers, I split off the CFR posts into their own new thread.  Look for them there.

Here's some other 2008 IOSeries news:

We're going with "one" entry fee for pros and "one" entry fee for amateurs.  I put scare quotes around "one" because we're still having the $5 discount for pre-registering, the $10 added for PDGA non-current players, and the discounted entry fees for Amateur Trophy-Only and Pro Half-In.  That right there is eight entry fees for pros and eight entry fees for ams.  If we were to have different entry fees for each of the amateur levels of competition, we would have 40 or 48 different entry fees.

This will be a fee increase for lower divisions and a fee decrease for Advanced and a fee no-change for the trophy-only players.

Fees should look something like this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
SAVE $5.00—PREREGISTER

All Pro Divisions

----- Full Fee -- Half In
ALL:  $50 ......... $27

All Amateur Divisions

----- Full Fee   -- Trophy Only
B/C    $33 ............ $20
A-tier $50 ............ $25

Open, MA2 and MA4 play Saturday.
All other divisons play Sunday.

Maybe Brett will update the misinformation page!

I'm actually working on IOS #1 Trophy discs today.  We finally got the green light on our IOS #1 date.  I'm using this star patterned geometric for IOS #1:

The tournament information division and place will be in the dye around the rim.  Lower divisions are mostly getting Z XLs.  Not sure yet about upper divisions.

I like the idea of doing professional quality lettering, but it was going to make the process too complicated and a little more expensive than I want to go for B/C trophies.

www.Fivetone.com will be sponsoring IOS #2 with 25 $20 gift certificates.  We'll probably add these as CTPs, 12 each day, and give one to a volunteer.

I won a $20 gift certificate from fivetone.com last year, and they never shipped my order.   >:(

After a long winter, I finally decided to get caught up on disc golf happenings.  I just realized today that with the new ratings, I can play rec again!  Watch out Mukey!!  So with Ben playing MA1 and me playing MA3, we'll still be able to play on the same day.  That's a relief with the predicted gas prices and us buying a permanent dwelling.

Bruce Brakel

I asked him about that.  He said the item was back ordered at the time and then that supplier quit making that item.  He said the gift certificate is still valid if you did not use it on something else.  Are our dates on pdga.com yet?  I'm running out the door and can't stop to look...

Sh*t!!   >:D

Seriously though, I've probably had some of the most fun I've ever had playing golf with/against the Schwinns, glad the ratings worked out that way.

I take it the elbow is doing better Marie?
