Hello,

What courses are usually closed for the winter?
I know Palatine takes the baskets out of the ground, what other courses do this in IL?

Thanks,
Jason

What about the fly 18 courses?  Does the park district just close up shop and leave the course to its own devices, or are there staff there year round?

Edgebrook pulls their baskets for the winter. However, this year they dropped Reese and Reese has, or will be shortly, pulled his baskets from the course. Edgebrook has plans to reinstall the course without Reese next Spring.

They might be gone.  Reese had posted in the Discontinuum location of the PDGA board that he planned to be in Chicago last weekend pulling the courses. http://www.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=758475&Main=678545#Post758475

I don't know if they are  gone or not.

Just a note on Edgebrook.  I've been hearing about Edgebrook second hand through the management at Willow Brook because Willow Brook has been looking into the idea of putting in a permanent course and I suggested they talk to Edgebrook about how it is working there.

It sounds like Edgebrook is still interested in disc golf.  They were telling Willow Brook that it was good for their business and they plan on putting the course back in when they can.  They might have to take a year off or maybe they don't.  That's a contractual issue with Reese.

Like Jon, I'm pretty optimistic that Edgebrook will be back with baskets before too long.

Working Stiff

I went out to South Elgin today.  The baskets are pulled and there is a sign that says the course is closed for the Winter.  So you can add South Elgin to the list of courses that are pulled for the Winter.

So much for my plan of sneaking away from my Mother-in-law's for a quick nine during the Holidays.

it is still to be determined when edgebrook will resurface.  due to a technicality in the contract that reese signed with billy casper golf (which manages cook co. forest preserve golf courses), the no-compete clause is invalidated, and edgebrook may install their own baskets immediately if they desire.  the regional manager has yet to make the decision as to if and when they will move forward with disc golf.  they may pull the trigger in the spring, or give it a year, sort of a cooling-off period.  the regional wants to do it, and has very vocal support of the general manager at edgebrook, but they say they have a very bad taste left in their mouths after all of the disagreements the two sides have had.  there is no love lost between the two parties.  i'll know something soon about their tentative plans, and will post as soon as there are developments.
have the good fun.

Brown Deer is out for the winter and Dretzka is in it's winter position.

I highly recommend going to Dreska and playing the winter course.  To me it is the best course in this area...  its got lots of elevation, water holes, length and more elevation to make your legs burn..

The Real Ice Bowl  http://www.unclejoes.org/ is going to be on this course...  20th year and this one is going to be huge, If you have not signed up yet, you should consider it.
