There are a number of Illinois players going for the overall tour points in their respective divisions. Kurt Krasinski and I are slugging it out for overall points in Grandmaster.  Frank Grimes is currently in the lead for Senior Grandmaster and Dustin Fee has a pretty good lead in Advanced.  It would be nice to see Illinois players win these titles.

The reason that I am bringing this up is that it appears that Gary Lewis did not get the scores in for Illinois States or Channahon.  If you see or speak with Gary, a not so gentle reminder to get the scores in would be appreciated. The scores could make a difference in one or all of us winning or losing the overall titles.

Also, a special thanks to Jason Rose for getting the scores in so quickly from the DSOTD Tourney. Excellent work.

Tom,

I will be sending out an e-mail to all IL TD's about getting results turned in. Gary is the only TD that does not have a valid e-mail address. I'll call him.

"Slugging it out?"  Current standings show me for the true lightweight I am.  Even with Channahon included I am over 200 pts. back with very little opportunity left in the year.  You have it sewn up Tom!  :notworthy:

(anyone headed down to the Charleston Classic the first weekend in Dec.?   >:D )

didn't Gary do the same thing last year?  I know that Slater ended up winning the award, but it did take some heavy influence to get the reports done.  I don't know what exactly gets turned in with the report, but I can't imagine it being too difficult though.  If Jason was able to do it that quickly and that was his first time, well then maybe there is something else to be said.......

Mike,

I understand what you are saying and applaud their efforts on getting new courses in the ground. However, as a td it's your responsibility to get the results turned in in a timely manner. Adoni has completed half the battle of getting the names & scores entered. An hour of work and it's done.

Brett,

If you talk to Gary or anyone else that is late with their reports often it would be worthwhile to ask them if they fill out the optional parts of the TD report. For all of the tournaments in Illinois you don't have to fill out the financial stuff, the payout calculations and the $5 fee contact info.

And this is the reason I no longer go out of my way to schedule in these tournaments on my calendar. With having a family and not a lot of free weekends in the summer, I have to choose which tourneys I play so I can get my points for worlds the following year. This is why I stick with the IOS series. Do not get me wrong, I love the tournaments Gary runs and the courses that he uses, but the unreliability of getting reports turned into the PDGA in time for the new ratings update is not worth the frustration.

I know Frank Grimes has spoken with Gary about it this past week.  Hopefully Gary will get it done.

So Aaron, are you more worried about the points or your rating? Usually they're in in time to get points but usually don't make the ratings update immediately following the tourney. I think the IOS crew has just spoiled us with the quick posting. I'd much rather have Gary running sanctioned tourneys and being slow reporting rather than unsanctioned lower days. I never played the upper day at his tourneys in the past so have no idea how his reporting was in years back.

Fox Metro Discer

The raitngs are important, yes, but I would rather have the points.  As a parent of 2 youngsters, it is becoming more difficult to get out and play as many tournaments as I would like to. If my play doesn't improve, I need to have those points in there. This year it does not matter as I already have my points for 2008 worlds. Next year, though, I will have a 6 year old and a 1 yr old. The # of tourneys I will be able to play will drop dramatically from this year's total. So, if I want the invite to worlds in 2009, I need to be more frugal with my tourney dates. As I think I am only going to get to play in 4 or 5 events.
Now, don't misunderstand what I am saying. I love what Gary has done for disc golf in our area. He is constantly promoting the sport with course installation,  tournaments (good payouts as well), as well as giving to those who attend the weekly leagues in Joliet as well. My only concern is getting those TD reports into the PDGA in a timely fashion. Last year was the first year he did both days sanctioned. I did not play tournaments before last year, so I cannot answer how the results were turned in prior to last year, but the results were in on the last day they could be in order to count for 2006 ratings/ points. This year he has had help with all of the scoring and they are still not in 4 months after the fact. I love the tournaments he throws, but if I am going to a sanctioned event, I want my points for them, plain and simple. Maybe I am spoiled with the way the guys do things at the IOS tourneys, but even when I travel for other ones, they seem to get the reports in on time. Why can't he?
I don't mind if he is slow with getting in the reports, but we are are looking at the end of the year very soon here. I understand also that Gary is old school and likes to do everything himself, but that does not mean he should not follow the rules by getting them in "in a timely fashion." Maybe I am wrong, 4 months later may be in a timely fashion.

IL State Championships and Channahon tourneys are official.  This may be a tiny bit premature, but congratulations to the following 2007 PDGA tour points winners:

Dustin Fee -- Am Open
Tom McManus -- Am Grandmaster
Frank Grimes -- Am Senior Grandmaster
Kelsey Brakel -- Am Jr. Girls <= 19
Kira Brakel -- Am Jr. Girls <= 13

Well done!  :occasion14:

Not at all.  As far as "tiny bit premature" goes, I'm only saying that there may be some tournaments out there that are not yet official and will eventually be included, but that IL state and Channy are no longer among them.  If more results become final it might possibly affect Dustin and Frank, but I think that is very unlikely at this point.  I know for a fact that Tom is safe, and pretty sure about Kelsey and Kira.  So, what I'm really saying is -- congratulations!

Bruce Brakel

Kelsey has won the Junior Girl Touring Points award every year since 2001.  She's kind of embarrassed about it at this point because she does not play in junior girls' divisions and does not like the idea of taking the award away from some girl who does play junior girls.  But since it is an obelisk now, and she's taking it away from her little sister, that's some consolation!   ;D

If the dam don't break and the flood don't rise, Kelsey will wrap up her 2008 Junior Girl Touring Points award by the end of March.

I noticed this about 2008 points today:  if Bowling Green pre-reg continues the way it is going, the winner in Intermediate will get more points than than the winner in advanced.  Am2s are outprereging Am1s by a ration of about 3 to 2, so the points ratio for winning would be 6 to 5.

There are no newly minted super-Am2s signed up yet that I saw.  I'm waiting for the Bruce's Birthday Ratings Update to sign up.

You made me look...

I'm estimating, but it looked like only 4 out of about 60 Am 2's on the Blowing Green registration were rated above the magic 915.  About half of them were rated below 900 and could have registered for Recreational.

About half of the Am 1's were rated <935 and could have signed up for Am 2.

Of course that was with about 150 players registered.  They only have 550 or so players to go.

People under 935 sign up for Am 1 cause they want to try to make the final nine.  Am2 has no final nine.
