I came across some news in the Winter/Spring 2008 brochure for Mundelein today that they have plans to install a 9-hole disc golf course at Diamond Lake Slough.  Brett - perhaps they could use some assistance with the layout so that we don't have another Leo Leather's debacle?

The source is here: http://www.mundeleinparks.org/Forms/MPRDbrochure.pdf

The text is here:

You may have noticed some construction traffic at
the Diamond Lake Slough. After some lengthy permit
processes, the District is moving forward with the
development at the Slough. However, the board is
interested in renaming this park also. Amenities at the
park will include a football field, soccer fields, nine hole
disc golf course, nature trails, bocce ball, and a deck
overlooking the water. Not many people know what
slough means. We are looking for names that reflect
the character of the park and the activities planned.
We encourage anyone with an idea for a new name
to submit it to the Park District by April 1st. A new
name for the park will be chosen in May, and the winner
will be given their choice of a family of four pass to
Barefoot Bay Aquatic Center or a foursome with carts
at Steeple Chase Golf Club.

The park is located on 60/83 south of where the Leo Leathers is/was (not sure if they pulled that course or not). Google Map  There's a lot of room it looks like on that west side of the road.  Maybe there can be some convincing to make it 18!  Start with, "you would only need to buy 9 baskets because you can pull the other 9 up from Leo Leathers..."

9 holes, no matter how good, are always lesser than 18 hole courses (Michler logic)

Clearly you lack understanding of Michler logic.  If you have 100% more holes, then it is an auto-victory.  12 over 8 is not an auto-victory, but it was enough to push it over the edge since the hole quality between Warren and Bevier was not that much different.  I actually think Bevier is more fun than Warren anyways.  15 over 12 is definitely not an automatic winner.

I talked to the MPD in November. It's already been designed. Not sure by who. They were not interested with any help or suggestions.

(collective sound of all disc golfers cringing...)

Yeah, if they weren't interested in Brett's help, who I consider one of the best disc golf ambassadors in the area, then pfaaah!

Quit work, play disc golf :)

The Summer '08 Mundelein Park District brochure unfortunately has no new information about the new course, other than saying that the Diamond Lake Slough will be opening in 2008.  The brochure doesn't say that DLS will have a disc golf course, but it also doesn't give any amenities for the new park, so I don't see that as a bad omen.  If anyone else has better information, I'd love to hear it.

The brochure also says that Leo Leathers Park still has a disc golf course -- I guess since it's the third or fourth closest course to my house, I'll have to buck it up and try it some time.

Hope you didn't come from Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, or any other state with arguably better courses. You might be in for a shock   :dontknow:

Eight years in Richmond, Virginia, which, when I left late last summer, had two 18-hole courses (one pretty decent, one eh) and a 9-hole course serving a metro area of about a million people.  (And the 9-hole course was the only one within 30 minutes of my house.)  Of course, I leave, and what's the first thing they do?  Build two new 18-hole courses.  Boo hiss.  I realize that Lake County, Illinois, isn't a disc golf haven, but at least here I have 90 holes or so within a half-hour drive, even if many of them are kind of eh.

That all said, my parents (regular disc golfers who are both approaching 60) live in Ames, Iowa, which now has two nice (and busy) 18-hole courses serving 50,000 people, not even counting the gobs and gobs of courses just 30 minutes away in the Des Moines metro area.  So yeah, I know what living the disc golf good life is like, and I know this isn't quite it.

I called the Mundelein Park District offices back in March to see when/if the disc golf course will open in the slough. The kid that was answering the phones told me that they hadn't actually finalized the decision to put one in yet, and that he would put me through to the voicemail of the lady that was in charge of it all. I left her the voicemail, but never got a call back from her.

I am also hoping they put it in, because then I would have 9 holes about a mile away from my house.
