mine arrived in the mail on Friday.  I thumbed through it, pretty much same ole same ole, but they did what seemed like a nice tribute(s) for Rick with this being his last issue.

I just quickly went through it and it seemed like a lot more ads than in the past. I did get it though!

Same ol' same ol' is right. It seemed like every article was a flashback to the early/ late 80's. Not too much on what is actually happening in the world of disc right now. I was also disappointed in the tourney results that they had posted. Seemed like a lot of them were missing compared to usual.

Anyways, I am gonna miss DGWN but am looking forward to the new zine that will be out this year.

I got mine yesterday. I skimmed thru it and read the USDGC section.

As usual, I was very disappointed. Lack of information. Coverage of old school stuff is boriing.

I'm opting out of the magazine this year. I'll see what happens. I'd rather save my $10 for gas to a tournament. If they give some updated info, player interviews, and some good info instead of the same ole stuff i'll get the magazine in 2009.

I had come home from playing at Parkside on a warm Satuday afternoon to find the last DGWN and was excited to skim through it. I planned to actually read it on Sunday.  Apparently, somebody spilled something on the countertop where the magazine was sitting and Nate Doss was stuck to my countertop and the rest of the issue was damp and stuck together.  An ignoble ending to DGWN in our houshold.  I did spend the extra $10 to see what the new guys have to say.

Barish, we get four copies.  E-mail me your surface mail address and I'll forward a copy to you.

The new mag wants me to write for them, but I have no ideas what to write about.  I was thinking about just writing about some of the the things I used to write about on pdga.com that were so inflamatory, and go for fireworks in ways that would now get me banned from pdga.com.  But try to be funny too.

Bruce-
Thanks. It was damp but readable and I read it cover to cover (except for the back cover which no longer exists)  last night. I was struck that one of Stork's kids lives in Chicago.  Is there any way that kind of clout can be used to get us a friggin' course?  I think you should write a column and be yourself.  Don't report, rouse rabble  It will be fun and readable.

Working Stiff

When you talk to Rick about disc golf and the PDGA, you would never guess that he was the guy responsible for the content of DGWN.  He's a pretty cut to the chase black-and-white guy, and if he thinks you are wrong about something you find out in a hurry.  He told me that because of his relationship with the PDGA he had to water down DGWN to be a "rah-rah disc golf and the PDGA are great" kind of magazine.  Otherwise, the PDGA could cancel the contract and so-long financial support from the PDGA.  It's too bad that he closed down DGWN now, as I would have loved to read a magazine that let us all know what Rick really thinks.

I would be surprised if the new magazine will be allowed to take on much more of an edge than DGWN had.  The PDGA still has their thumb on the controls, and given the recent clamp-down on their message board I'm not seeing them loosening control over the magazine to be openly critical of them.  I think if Bruce goes for fireworks, his tenure writing for the new magazine will be brief.

I liked what they did with my pictures of USWDGC this year. Especially the big composite page. They did identify one picture that I did not take as having been taken by me. The picture of "Mom" Wallis holding the plaque was not taken by me. I'm sure it was taken by Terry Miller.

I'm really proud of the work that I did for DGW over the years and am glad to have had the opportunity to be a contributor to the magazine.
