Although i have not been around this game many years, i am still amazed at how little coverage in any forumn disc golf gets.  I would assume with all the goofy crap espn covers (scrable, spelling bee, flugtag) that a major event disc golf like worlds should, or could garnish a 30 second to 1 minute sportscenter highlight of some kind.  At least the open leaderboard. Maybe its just unrealistic thinking on my part, but it's amazing things like this go on untouched on.

I love to watch bicycle racing.  Not many other people do.  It was hard to find bike racing on television until what's his name came out of retirement.  Once he did the money came back and Versus ran the Tour de France all day for the month of July.  I guess if disc golf ever gets a big name star that they can market there might be some action.  Or, if it was more like beach volleyball there might be a voyeuristic audience. I think there is enough interest to spark a non-profit webcast but that's about it.

Well, networks and profitable coverage aside, the PDGA website could at least cover it better!  They have a link to "Worlds Complete Coverage" and there's almost nothing.  You have to hunt just to find a link to a complete leaderboard, and only half the open scores are up.  I know the last round just started about 4 hours ago, but there are rounds that started 7-8 hours ago that still aren't reported at all.  It makes it hard to cheer on our friends!  ;)

The courses in KC are sick! The 53 that Avery shot at Blue Valley is mind boggling to me. I had a rough stretch today but saw one of the sickest 2's ever. Hole #13 Brian S throws a huge 2nd shot thumber that bounces off the ground into the basket. It was the only 2 on that hole.

Anytime anyone goes near 1080 it was a near perfect round.  You have nowhere to go but up Brett.  Go get 'em tomorrow.

I think they played this game in one of the Austin Powers movies.  >:D Either that or the disc golf cruise stopped to play a round of this game when they stopped at Fantasy Island. :P Or maybe diabetic showed up when they were having leagues on the set of Time Bandits II.  ;D In any case, if you are playing and somebody mentions the Lollipop Guild, don't bet any money.

My earlier post about the highest rated amateurs in the tournament playing junior divisions may have been a little harsh.  Could be that Oscar and Nageeb had transportation issues that would require them to play juniors or not at all.  And Andrew would not be competitive in Advanced.  Nonetheless, after two rounds Oscar and Andrew both have big leads consistant with their ratings advantage over their divisional cohorts.  Nageeb has started off tepid and is only leading by one over a kid playing well above his rating.

Based on ratings, Oscar is playing well enough to be leading in Advanced.

Based on ratings, Elaine is playing well enough for fourth place in Pro Women.  So I bet she's glad she's playing Pro Master Women and has the 12 throw lead.

For Elaine, I'll cut a little slack.  I know she has injuries and it is hard for her to play two-day tournaments.

Here in Waterford we all have mixed emotions about the youngest Frazer leading in Advanced Women.  We're all rooting for Paige.  But if Becca wins and goes pro, it is one less Frazer Kira has to beat next year.  If Becca wins it and doesn't go pro and plays Am Worlds in Ohio in Advanced Women, well, then, so can Kelsey!  If Becca wins it and goes pro, maybe the whole Frazer fam will play Pro Worlds next summer instead of Am Worlds.  So there are lots of upsides to Becca winning it.

Nice to see the recoveries Brett and Dan made today. Taylor has been solid throughout - each round gets better! - and it sounds like anything can happen at Blue Valley so there are lots of possibilities.

Also note that Ron Huebner is playing in his first Worlds and has shot consistently above his (obviously obsolete) rating. (He's even ahead of my evil twin... 8) )  John Jordan figures to finish strong and I expect him to make the semis; if Ron continues at this pace he's got a good shot too.

Really jealous I'm not there, esp seeing that it's probably not going to break 90 degrees all week. Keep it going, guys.
thanks,

Quit work, play disc golf :)

Everybody in our hotel room was feeling pretty good heading into today.  Kenny, Dave, and I are playing Blue Valley today.  Hopefully we all survive.  The game plan is to throw far, throw far again, and hopefully get up and down when you need to.  It'd be cool to see Taylor move into the top 10 if he can tear it up at the big course today.

Brett is playing Cliff Drive this morning.  I think he'll fare well at that course as it really suits his game more than the other courses he's played so far. He's also got Water Works and Swope left which are also right up his alley, so he definitely has a chance to do some damage the next couple days.

Avery with a 6 throw cushion.  It'll be interesting to see if he can extend or keep that lead today.  Doss and Feldberg are lurking 9 throws back.

On a sidenote, the unofficial  ratings are no longer correct for rds 1-4 since the Shuffle in case you are looking at the leaderboard.  It seems like they usually correct everything based on what pool you played in after the tournament is over.

peace out!
