I came home today with the surprise of the 2008 Innova pricing and Catalog sitting on the table, joy!  Every major disc company raised their prices some this year *sigh*  Cost of doing business I suppose :)

There were some neat/interesting things that I saw in the catalog that I didn't know about:

*Say bye-bye to the JK Champ Valkyrie it looks like.  Instead, say hellow to the Christian Sandstrom Star Valkyrie.  Sandstrom is the guy that chucked a Valk a world record distance of 820'.
*New DX Drivers coming in 2008: DX Sidewinder, DX Starfire.  That's welcome news for me as DX and Star are my two biggest sellers (away from tournaments at least).
*Innova is going to start carrying the discs used to play Dodgebee lol.  It's Dodgeball with Frisbees and a very small playing field (each team is on a 30' by 30' area.  You chuck these foam things at each other.  I think I'm going to start carrying these :)
*Innova is coming out with discs for dogs in 2008.  They are puncture resistant.  Not sure if I will carry this or not - there are 3 different discs.
*According to the catalog the minimum order for hot stamp discs is lowered to 50 discs from 100 (but still 25 per model).  The price sheet still says 100.  Not sure if this is a typo or not, but I don't know when I would only order 50 discs anyway.
*Backsaver straps are back in teh catalog.  MSRP $24.99  I'm not sure if they will be as good as the quad shocks.
*New dri weave golf shirts (polos) will be available, also looks like the mini driver has gone through an overhaul, you can now get Innova branded Sharpies, and Innova is also coming out with an Innova Keychain.  Lots of good cheap stuff to spend your last buck or two of funny money :)
*Wholesale price went up on all portable baskets.  Not fun, but hopefully won't hurt too much in the price of the baskets overall.

I'd be curious to see if they come out with more speed 12 plastic this year.

bah, who needs foam dodgebee discs when we used real ones at Am worlds at the indoor soccer arena.  That would have made the game a little more fun and less about not dying when ben singer launches a wizard at your head.  It was still fun though.

With oil prices the way they are, shipping on all supplies has got to be going up for all the manufacturers.  Also, isn't plastic a petroleum product?  I could be wrong about that and I'm too tired to look it up, but if that is true the disc manufacturers are getting a double-whammy on their costs.  Since they are in business to make money, somebody has to pay.  Why not us?

With Julianna not touring, it makes sense to market the distance record on the Valk.  Put it right on the stamp for all the newbs to see.  Heck, they should put it on the DX and Star stamp as well.

I was hoping they would be able to mold the SL in DX to go along with the Starfire, but no luck I guess.  The SFX is just too much disc for me.  The DX Sidewinder might be OK, it depends on how durable it is.   I also read that the Destroyer will be out in 150 Class this spring, although I'm not sure what plastic that is.  I'm assuming it is Star.

I think I read that Innova was trying for a less stable speed 12 disc, but all the protos have been duds.  They can make a more stable speed 12 disc whenever they want, so that may be the next long-range driver you see from them.

But what about the actual news coming out of Rancho Cucamonga...The new San Marino Rocs!  Who has got some?  When can we get some?

Disc Golf Values had some (san marinos) a few weeks ago, but not sure if they do now.

Right in Harold Duvall's letter to all of their customers he mentions, "Innova has worked hard to deflect the impact of increased petroleum costs, but some changes were inevitable."  So yeah, increase in oil pricing = increase in costs to make discs.  Bummer.  Thankfully for the majority of my stuff I can leave it at the same price level for this year - as long as I consistently order 500 discs in an order and not just 200.

It doesn't surprise me about the DX Sidewinder since they already make that in the Glow DX.  As far as I've heard it's the Pro Destroyer that they wanted to make in the 150-class - it's specifically designed as something the pro's can use in Japan since the max weight you can use in Japan is 150g.

The calendar is alright... kinda wish that it wasn't only becoming available at the end of January... really should have been out sooner.  I don't plan on carrying them because by the time I'd have them available for sale really would be March.  It needs to come out in October or November.  There's some nice pictures, and some that are just ok.  It will work nicely to replace the 13-month calendar I have that ends with this month.

I was talking to my  rep today. The Straps should be available soon & he said they've tested them & this batch should hold together.

From the Ask Dave D thread on the PDGA message board:

QuoteDave,

Congratulations on the Destroyer being a huge success! I was wondering since it's so popular if we'd see more discs like it? And more specifically do you expect to make more (and less stable) discs with the 2.2 cm rim thickness?

Thanks,

Jerry

We already tried to make a less stable configuration. It flew basically the same as the original, so we didn't market it. We may try a less stable DX version in the future, but we have already come out with DX, which will, with use, turn out to be less stable and easier to throw for intermediate level players. Also, it comes in lighter weights. The only other disc in 2.2, that we might make this year would be a slightly more high speed stable version of the Destroyer.

According to the SunKing Discs website they offer the DX Destroyer in 150 class.

Are the keychains plastic? They are probably the same ones that Terry Miller had at the Cold Turkey. I remember they used to have some "rubber" type keychain.
