The main reason we switched Adv/Pro a few years ago to Saturday was the constant conflicts with other events. At the time very few events had Adv/Pro playing Saturday.

I've grown to love playing on Saturday for the IOS. Bruce, Jon, and I get the work done really fast on Sunday and try to wrap up as many issues at possible. Myself and others can start breaking down the temp holes immediately. It's not dark at the park when I leave ;D.

This discussion brings up a question I have. with me playing MA1 this year and my 6 yr old playing juniors, how can I work it out so that both of us can play as our divisions have both of us playing on Sunday? Since I know I need to walk with him in order to keep him playing by the rules and so that if he decides he doesn't want to finish and all.
I didn't check your rating, but assuming Brett is correct that you are an Am 2, and assuming it is essential that you play up a division, walk with your kid while he plays Am 4, the other day.  Or, just do the right thing and do whatever you have to do so that your kid can play juniors with other kids.

Understood, however, my rating will be going up over the 935 mark at the next rating release. Coupled with the fact I would like to try to compete for the ADV overall points race this year, I was wondering if it would be possible that I could play my round with him on Sunday.

That would be going farther with the PDGA format than we can go.

Why not dreambag with me in Open, 1/2-In?  There's no glory in winning IOS Season Points for Advanced.  With the way you've been playing, you'll be taking prizes in Open and staying Am, or taking cash and going pro.

One thing that is done for the IOS tourneys is try to make sure that players that are not PDGA members play in the correct divisions. This is done by calculating ratings based off local tournaments for the last few years. With the new divisional ratings breaks, players may not know what divisions they are eligible for. If you (or a friend) are not a PDGA member and would like to know what division you are eligible for when playing in an IOS tournament, please send me a PM and I will let you know what division we have calculated. Remember Intermediate(MA2) and Novice(MA4) play on Saturday. All other Amateur divisions play on Sunday.

I will NOT reveal actual ratings as that is a benefit of PDGA membership. If you would like to have an official rating and not pay the $10/tourney PDGA non-member fee, join the PDGA.

Mike, could you send me the list?

I went through Pitner's winter tournaments.  These guys should think about moving up to Am 3 Recreational:

Jason Riley     Jonathan Boster    Joe Dathe    James Saudon    Nick Fax

I have not seen the list so I don't know if you have to or if you just ought to.  You won't be Am 4 eligible for long, if you are now.

The rest of the players playing Pitner's winter series look fine to me.  Whenever Am 2, 3 and 4 are being won by PDGA members, there isn't much of a sandbagging issue.

Using officially rated rounds Jason Riley,  Joe Dathe, and Jonathan Boster have to play Am3

Not that my opinion matters a great deal but with the division splits my friends and I will be playing very few IOS events this year.

Last year I brought the IOS about 15 registrations between myself, my brothers, and our friends (3-4 events, 4-5 guys).

We are not very good disc golfers.  After a few years of talking trash to each other every weekend we wanted to see who really was the best.  So we started doing the tournaments last year to gauge our skills against strangers but more importantly amongst ourselves.  I guess apart of what kept us coming back was the dream of winning some brass cash or taking home a trophy but after the first event we really only cared how we placed within our group of friends.

Two of our "regular" players have advanced to AM3 while the rest of our "regulars" are still AM4.  We car pool and sometimes even help each other out with entrance fees.

We are all bummed out that the divisions are split.  Some guys don't take it very serious and asking them to drive an hour to play without their friends is just too much for them.

Unfortunately it looks like we will be skipping the IOS events for other events like "Don't get fooled 2".

Its not that we dislike the IOS it's just not very practical for true Novice/Rec/Enthusiast players.

If you want to play on the same day and keep comparing scores, have you and your friends play AM3 with the AM4 guys playing trophy only AM3.

If they don't really take it serious, then why can't everybody just play Am3?  Then you can all come on the same day and all compete against each other.

modify:  i  see krupicka just beat me to that post.  i guess it does make sense then  :)

They don't take their disc golf career that serious but they also don't like getting embarrassed.

Paying to get beat by 15+ strokes is not a fun relaxing day for anyone.
Instead of going to tournaments I imagine we will meet at a course and have our own private tourney.

My friends would rather buy a new disc, a couple of drinks, and lunch than dump their $25 into trophy only.

With several tournaments every month, we will play together or not in a tournament.

Just to keep the facts straight: Trophy only is $15 pre-reg / $20 day of. For that you get $15-$20 at the merch table, plus chance at CTPs,  play in an organized competitive environment, etc.

Thats going to be your loss then brother, cuz right now it says the weather is to be in the 60s and sunny for IOS 1.  I think there should be alot of players there having a good time, regardless of people's player ratings.

Unless you have formed a pact to suck forever, eventually some of you would be playing on a different day from the rest of you, no matter how we split the divisions.  And if Pitner keeps running good tournaments, eventually he'll be running split-days, so just do whatever works for you for now.  We're hoping what we're doing will work for players who want to play their ratings appropriate division one day and play against better players the other day.  It also works to divide our field in half, if players play their ratings indicated divisions.  Most other splits were dividing the field 60-40 or 65-35.

Everybody wants the setup to be perfect for their situation.

Luckily I feel it is perfect for me this year so I won't complain   ;D

Few things...can the moderator please PM me and explain why my last post was deleted?

Next, I completely agree that missing the IOS tourneys is my loss.  I wish my group of friends were more flexible.  I will still play some IOS events, I just wont be bringing a group of 5 guys with me.  That's less income for the IOS and I thought the leaders of your organization might want to know where that money went.

In regards to having a "pack to suck", we don't want to be pro disc golfers.  In many ways we laugh at the guys that are way too into disc golf.  We go out to have fun.  That's it.  We tried playing tournaments to increase our level of fun.

I didn't realize that providing you with feedback about your product would result the deletions of my posts or in aggressive posts against my viewpoint.  I did not bash the IOS.  Next time I'll keep my opinion to myself and just spend my money in other places.

I also think the splits of the division is kind of weird, but we have to go with what is scheduled.  I took 1st at the Irish tourny in MA4, and for IOS1 I am going to play MA3, as I think my ratings will require me to play that after the update.  Also it works out well for me because I can ride with some of my friends who play MA1.

Missing the IOS because of your friends sucks. I used to do that, but my desire to play got the better of me. Come on out & make new friends at the IOS series that DO play tournaments, problem solved.

You've always got to take what Bruce says with a grain of salt, or maybe a block. All he was trying to say with the "Pact to Suck" is that one or two people in your group will be better than the others & end up beating everyone very often. Enough of that & they won't want to play with the better golfer & the better golfer will want to play against people of similar skill level. no one likes to play Doom on God mode for long, eh?

As far as agressive posts against your viewpoint, this is the Internet, right?   ;D
