I think people hit "Preview" and forget to hit "Post."  I do that all the time.  If your name is not Kevin Tomasitus, I've never deleted your post.  If your name is Kevin Tomasitis, you might want to post anonymously.   ;)

I think people get offended at my posts when they fail to read the conditional as a conditional.  "Unless" is a conditional.  You could read that statement, "If you have all made a pact to suck, you will all always be in the lowest division together, and you will never have a scheduling problem at tournaments that are popular enough that some divisions play one day and some play another day.  If you have not made a pact to suck, some of you are going to get better faster than others and at popular tournaments you'll be playing on different days."  But that was wordy and the other was was succinct.

If you all want to always play on the same day, there are plenty of TDs that suck and don't draw enough players to fill one day.  Pitner is not one of them, so I doubt his tournaments will be one-day events indefinately.

This post is not intended at any one person.

There is one thing I learned very quickly when it came to disc golf. Nothing you do will or can please everyone in disc golf.

The IOS crew has tried to provide a series of events for people to play. We are willing to take some gambles and offer new ideas. Some have worked, others have not. All but 1 of the courses we've run sanctioned events at had one prior to the IOS being there. Round Lake, Crystal Lake. Streamwood, Lombard, Rockford, and Aurora. Prior to the IOS the closest sanctioned events were Milwaukee and Joliet. Disc golf has come a long ways in a short amount of time.

We run these events for fun. We don't care if money is made or not. If we were in this game for the $ we'd have quit a long time ago.

I think the frequency distortion on the chatter has been increasing a bit recently but the message board still works.  A new idea is being tried this year.  I know that you know how to sift through the emotion and nonesense to see that there are real ideas being put on the table from a lot of different quarters. There is a rationale for the new format idea- more equitable distribution of numbers.  There are some concerns.  This is a good place to air them out.  It will be especially interesting to see what everybody has to say about things when both Kenosha and Lombard in in the books.  How did it work?  We will wait and see.  How even were the numbers?  How many showed up each day?  How many players were so peeved they took their toys home and didn't come out to play?  Time will tell.  I understand the desire to play with your friends and to have  your usual car pools.  I expect the new format will impact me ride-wise.  In a perfect worlds the upper/lower division makes sense as everybody is playing with players like themselves. That being said, I often felt like I was playing in the disc golf ghetto on lower day.  Saturdays will be especially schizo with open, AM2 and Am 4.  None of us really play a game similar to the other.  There seems to be more chance of cohesion on Sunday.  I think it will be cool for me as an AM 4 to be on the course with the pros.  I doubt they will feel the same.  My kind will just slow them down.

To me the upshot is nobody, myself included, likes change.  We are all comfortable with what we know.  If it works, this will be what we know and we will get comfortable. If not, I am sure the changes will be changed, modified or adapted.  Brett, I think it goes beyond disc golf.  Any time you have a big change in format for anything some folks are gonna be thrilled and some are gonna be, well you know...unthrilled.  Most importantly,  I think most of us feel that your intentions are pure.  Lets see how it works...

That's not what you meant, is it? I believe you meant to say there *weren't* any sanctioned events at those courses before IOS.  ;)

heh, I have 4 tournaments that will be on the schedule in 2008 that will require splitting.  3 are 2-days, the other is April 26th at Highland Park.  I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to split the two courses since I max at 55 at each one. It's probably going to be Pro(Open, Masters, etc)/Am1/Am2 at one course and Am3/Am4/Other at the other course, but it's the Other that I'm concerned about mainly.  The higher divisions are going to play a round of regular tees and a round of alternate tees at each course, the lower divisions will play 2 rounds of regular tees at each course.  What about Adv Master, etc?  Where do they play?  How to split things is not an easy answer!

there's definitely going to be some growing pains with the split day tournaments.

Things change. That's life. If you weren't going to go to the IOS because you couldn't travel with your set of people that you traveled with last year, then you weren't going to be attending IOS tourneys for long anyway. People move away, get married, have kids, tear muscles, whatever. If you want to play good tournaments, then come on out.

We don't know how the divisional split will play out. We tried to split divisions so that we can accommodate as many players as possible. We observed many rounds last year to base this year's projections on. AMIV players play just as quickly as Open players. When Open players get to the back up hole (there's always one, you know?) and there are AMIV players ahead of them, you know who they will blame...ME!!!  ;D

Anyway, I hope you come out...we'll miss you if you're not there. (that didn't sound gay, did it?)

...not that there's anything wrong with that...

I've played with alot of slow players over the years and none of them were Novices.  I've also been at many of the intermediate and Rec days for IOS events and the rounds took the same or less time from the same tees than it did for Adv/Pro.  On a Highbridge type course the Rec players would take forever, but not at IOS type courses.

I basically just said the same thing Jon did, but I think it means that much more coming from me

18B at Kenosha last year - that's the type of hole that a nov (eg. ME) would make for a more likely backup candidate.  However, that hole is always going to have some sort of backup because it's just a tough hole and people are going to go OB.  I went OB on it twice in the second round.  I think I took a 7 or something stupid like that.  The rest of the holes a lot of the NOV players can drive close to the distance to the basket, but we just need to lay up for a (hopeful) drop in putt or just take an extra putt because we missed... again.

Going back on the subject of a deleted post, I (as the official webmaster of the club site & message board) have never removed a post or thread without the affected party or parties knowing about it. Unfortunately the message board software doesn't allow for logging of moderator actions so I can't answer the base question. Could one of the three moderators of this board, and you know who you are, please let me know WTF is going on?

1) Correct. We wanted to promote the half-in option and didn't want to add another 8 price points so we dropped trophy only for Pro divisions.

2) Correct. There is a $5 discount if you pre-reg.

I now have liquid brains coming out my ears, but i read all that.

QuoteThere is a Discraft player pack that includes any Z or ESP disc and a D disc for $15.00 Brass. You must talk to Bruce and mention this player pack. There are a limited number of these.

Let's change that to:

QuoteThere may be special player pack deals at some tournaments depending on the level of sponsorship we receive from manufacturers for participating in their tournament stamping program.  Check with Bruce at each tournament for the special player pack deal.  Don't be expecting Becky or Maddisen to explain it all to you.

This year we'll have Throw Innova deals and Throw Discraft deals.  The only way I'm going to be able to hold the line on Innova prices is if we custom stamp most of the Innova, but their deals are not so sweet as to make a big dent in prices and do player pack deals.  Innova does about 10% free stuff now which is like 1 brass off my current exhorbitant prices if we were to apply it that way, while Discraft is doing like 30% free stuff, depending on how good you are at playing the free stuff game.  Still, we'd like to thank Innova for making baby steps in the right direction.

And I think we'll change the "Throw Discraft CTP" to the "Innova vs Discraft CTP".  The losing company will pay for the prize out of their sponsorship value!

I am a bit confused Innovawise.  Is there a Throw Innova deal?  If so, I'm in.  Like a dope, I left my 168 Sidewinder in a public park.  I had been throwing 15-20 discs and then going to pick them all up.  It started to rain pretty hard and I scooped them up and went to the car.  The next day I realized the Sidewinder was missing.  It was always one of the 2 farthest throws.  I gotta replace it..  If there is no such deal, I will just use my brass to buy one anyway.

Dave not to try and take business from the IOS but I have a lightly used 167 blue star sidewinder I'd be able to part with.

No problem.  We're all for players selling their stuff to player who need their stuff.  Taylor, I've got a couple of Red Wings ESP Buzzzes I'm bringing.

I've never had small amounts of innova sponsorship to apply to the process before, so I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it.  Another thought I'm having is I could put a fair brass price on all the Innova stuff I've dyed, because i have some Chiefs and Cubs and Vaders that have turned out well, and then write those discs down to ordinary retail undyed.

A lot of the Vaders are bottom dyed Forces:

That dye is sick Bruce, keep up the good work.  >:D

I've tried doing some bottom dyed Sox but I'm getting messed up by the injection nipple.  On the Vader, the nipple is in an unmasked area, so it is not messing with the mask.  I'll have seven or eight of these.  For Am 2s who are dreambagging in Am 1, and Am 4s who are dreambagging in Am 3, they probably will be all gone by Sunday.  Of course, I can always do special requests and bag things up in lay away.

Thanks.  Maybe I will take you up on it as I should stock up on these discs.  In any case, [ with slight thread drift] its a great idea to put your name and number on your discs. I really don't think a PDGA number is good enough.  Some random guy found my disc and called my house. He is putting my sidewinder under his car on his driveway and I am going to pick it up tonight.

IOS Friends,

Attached is a copy of the 2008 Flyer. You must register a user name and login to view attachments. Please make a few copies and take to your local league. Please hang one up at your local course(s). Place the flyer in a baggie and it will last a long time. This is your chance to get involved. It may seem simple but it gets the information to the people that play disc golf.

Thank you for the help!
