Thanks everyone, I just recieved the OK to go from the boss!  Im extremely, extremely happy and very lucky to have the chance to go compete AND represent Illinois.  Since getting a full time job, my disc golf game has taken a plunge.  No course to play everyday and a non DG friendly schedule has been dificult for me.  Going from playing a few rounds a day to only throwing in a field has been tough.  It took some time, but I'm learning how to really practice.  I now wake up every morning and go to the field for 1-2 hours before work.  After work (10pm) I have been putting outside behind (or inside) the rec center for 1-2 hours.  These next 3 weeks before The Championship I am planning on practicing longer and harder than ever.  I will try my best to represent Illinois in a positive manner on and off the course.

I need to thank Scott and Paper\Plastic Sports for helping me out with some discs as well.  Not playing Am anymore saw my stock vanish pretty quickly.  Terry Miller\Lifetime also has helped me out big time!  Thanks guys, I appreciate your support!

Also, thanks to everyone who got in on the 50/50 CTP!

Quit work, play disc golf :)

Play well there.  It's always nice when there's a fair-and-square competition for the state coordinator's invitaion to USDGC and then the a person everyone would want to see win it wins it fair and square.

Congrats Dana!

Go find an area you can practice throwing shots with lots of OB.

Update- I am registered and I have purchased my flight.

Also did a few extra minutes of putting with the basket on a picnic table in preparation for some of those elevated baskets.

Awesome!

If you have a confident roller throw it on #2.

Play smart, play safe! Keep the disc between the ropes.
Throw a mid range safely in the fairway on #6. It takes the water out of play. Your 2nd shot has to be long and accurate. Closer to the water is the way to go which makes that shot over the water much easier.
If you have a thumber throw it on #7. I birdied it all 4 rounds.
The back 9 is where all hell can break loose. Find a startegy for hole 13. Don't get greedy on 12. Take your 4 and walk away.
Spend lots of time on #17. Get that baby dialed in.
Good luck!

Thanks for the tips.  I will probably go  lefty off the tee 2-4 times at least.

17 im planning on either Roc, lefty hyzer or a flick.  Once I get there and throw a few, I'll know.

Just saw this thread now. Congrats, Dana! That was a great round you shot on Sunday morning, and I know you'll be a fine representative for Illinois disc golf. If you need any info, feel free to ask.

I think Brett is talking about hole 5 above. Hole 6 is one you need to birdie. Overall, I thought the back nine offered more chances for birdie, albeit with more risk involved. Hole 10 is a potential birdie hole, and I heard they made the green even bigger this year. I agree with Brett regarding hole 12. On hole 13, I saw a lot of people throwing rollers and flicks to the left side of the fairway to play away from the parking lot. I didn't try it, but I think it's what I'd do now. On 14, a lot of people are afraid to go for the birdie with a line drive hyzer. Don't be fooled into laying up, as it's probably the easiest hole on the course and the only one I birdied every time. Hole 15 is another potential birdie hole if you get around the corner (sometimes even if you don't). Hole 16 is a sucker hole. The green is really small and just not worth the risk of going OB. Don't worry about 17. The green is huge and easy to land on with a flick or lefty hyzer.

One thing that really surprised me was how open all of the greens were. Wind really comes into play everywhere on the course, but especially when putting and even more so when putting on the elevated baskets. If I was playing this year, I'd spend my time practicing accurate midrange shots in the open and landing them in a very defined area, as well as flicks and rollers. I hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!

Jack-

Thanks for the congratulations and thanks for the insight- I appreciate it.  Talked with Bennet yesterday and he also gave me some good tips.  Only a little over two weeks away now!

Here's the only tip you need and it's free of charge. It's the tip I'd use if I went to the USDGC. It's also the tip I gave Brett before he went. Keep it in the fairway. That's it.  ;D

Tips aside I'd like you to do the rest of us a favor while you're there. Don't forget to tingle. In Jim Bouton's book Ball Four he said that no matter how many times he walked out onto a Major League baseball field he never forgot to tingle. It was his way of saying that he always appreciated it and enjoyed no matter how he was pitching that day...that he was privileged just to be on the field. I think the USDGC is the closest thing that we have to a MLB field in our sport and most of us will never be able to enjoy it, so please enjoy the hell out of while you're there!
