Just FYI:

When I sent out surveys to participants in the HPC Memorial, something like 11 out of 13 replies said they approved paying some cash to Ams. 2 of those 11 were Pros, if I remember correctly.

But as I understand it, paying cash to Ams in a *sanctioned* event supposedly violates 'amateur' standing. (paying cash in unsanctioned things like HPC/Widdershins I think is quite cool, though, esp. since I got some ;) )

I'm all for the 'true am' option though, just paying your fees to cover expenses, then trophies and maybe discs/merch credits to the very top finishers. I can't really complain about the Peoria Open as the adv master entry fee was only $25, but the "player's package" was a bag of crap, frankly. (apparently it inspired my performance...)

And in most tournaments playing below advanced is non-sanctioned (non-rated, and a lot of them charge/require PDGA membership anyhow) and I've often wondered where the money goes...

Could I possibly play any worse if I didn't practice putting??

A couple of pencils, couple of pens, couple of notepads, a c. 60g pseudo-frisbee (all w/ company logos), a 50c Smoothie coupon, a couple of paper clippy things (one of which is at least useful for closing pretzel bags, the other I suppose you could clip scorecards together with), a bottle of water and some Peoria-area tourist flyers.

Oh, and an Innova mini.

No local hospital refrigerator magnets?  No rubber gripper can opener?  I think they short crapped you!

OK, I forgot about the package of IceBreakers gum. Didn't see any expiration date, but the flavor goes away in about 27 seconds with those suckers. No magnets or can openers though.

But like I said, and considering the entertainment value of watching the final 9, I'm not really complaining; the package just seemed rather silly and not worth anyone's trouble.
