The PDGA did their post-Worlds touring points update today.  A lot of familiar names and faces to the Discontinuum clan are in the mix for touring points obelisks.

In Advanced Chad Inman from Madison is in first by a small margin over a Kansas based player and can extend his lead with the IO A-tier.  I have no idea if he is making a run for the obelisk or just playing a lot of tournaments.

In Am Master I'm enjoying my moment in the sun.  Playing Advanced well at Worlds rocketed me to the top, but I'm not seriously contending for it.  Are any of the other leaders or will they be playing pro master now?  I'm resting my elbow for a bit and trying to heal up my knee.

In Am Grand Tom McManus is a close second to Stuart Krall.  Stuart has won an obelisk or two in the past so he knows whats up.  Tom did well for himself playing advanced at Worlds.  Stuart, not so well playing intermediate at a local Georgia tournament.  If Tom can bounce back from the collar bone injury, I'm rooting for him.

In Advanced Women Kelsey is way to the lead.  Kelsey is declining the Junior Girl obelisk in favor of the advanced women's obelisk.  We checked with Mr. Graham about that at Worlds and he said, absolutely, if a junior is eligible for an obelisk in advanced, he or she can decline the junior obelisk and take the advanced obelisk.  Her lead is bigger than the total number of points obtained by last year's winner.  I think that's over.  There are not enough tournaments left for second place to catch her.

So now there is a dead tight race in Junior Girls between Kiralyn and Michelle Frazier.  Kiralyn is considering scaling back on ballet so she can win the obelisk.  It almost makes me weep to hear that!  We'll be looking for an Am 4 or Advanced Women field every weekend this fall, I suspect.

That's your IOSeries players' obelisk wrap up.

As far as Advanced goes, I think Rusco is moving to Open if I remember correctly. As for the rest of the top 10, Tate Handy, Pat Burke, Bryan Marcotte, and Ryan Herzog have all moved up. Chad should have no problem cruising in for the W unless Rusco stays down and starts playing more.

I'm 15th in FM1.......having a job makes it hard for me to compete with Sandra Frazer's total points......maybe when I retire.... :icon_wink:

If the Fraziers go to Alabama we're going to have some catching up to do.
As of my discussion with Sandra at Kimball Pines at Worlds, the Frazers weren't going to AL.
Kira got something like 60 points at Rockford and took the lead, but there's a much better multiplier for Advanced Women Majors than for Novice A-tiers.  If the Fraziers don't go, that will make things easier.

It's hard to find Novice divisions and large fields of women where Kira can bring home some points.  Last year Kira needed some points to catch Kelsey so we offered an incentive to women to play in Recreational division at a fall tournament.  Kelsey got off the DL in time and won it with Intermediate Men's points.

Kira could tag a long with my dad and I to AL, if she wants.

I think this is funny:  the last three times the PDGA has updated points and money it was exactly one day after I casually inquired of Chuck Kennedy or Carolyn Garlock if there was a stats update coming out soon.  I'm pretty sure the stats update is now a pretty simple process where they just have to enter a few parameters and then the computer does it all.  So am I the only one who looks at the stats and then they update when I ask?  Or is it just one of those things?  They used to update monthly at the beginning of the month and now it seems semi random, or when I ask.

Here's your top ten Illinois pros by money:

Chris Sprague   16425  22   IL   8795  $ 7351 1012
Rob Strasser   4672  13   IL   1838  $ 2745 992
Rod Ripper Fritz   2777  7   IL   494  $ 1606 991
Kristopher Hutter   18874  9   IL   1952  $ 1414 991
Allen Hermosillo   25345  24   IL   3712  $ 1347 964
Daniel Pastore   4320  16   IL   746  $ 1323 962
Todd Fanning   24707  15   IL   2287  $ 1230 977
Brett Comincioli   19325  8   IL   2105  $ 1041 990
Jason McKinney   17714  7   IL   1390  $ 962 984
Paul Pazanin   22675  9   IL   390  $ 705 950

Without touring, Barry has made almost $20,000 so far this year.

On the topic heading, let's see...

1.  Oh, I'm still in first.  I'm actually adding tournaments to my schedule.  I'm trying to finish with a kick here.  I'm the tortoise in this race but the rabbits are napping...

2.  Kelsey is way out to the lead in Advanced Women.  She'll win it if they remember that she wanted to decline the Junior Girl Obelisk and take Advanced Women instead.  I'm reminding them from time to time.

3.  Kira just passed Michelle for second in junior girls, which will get her the junior girl obelisk if see # 2.  Kira is kicking it to the end also, planning on playing three or four more, minimum.  Fraziers get serious with the homeschooling in the fall.  Brakels, PDGA points!

4. McManus has a one-tournament lead on Krall.  [Based on average points per tournament.]  Krall is a former Am Grand World Champ.  It's fun to beat a World Champ at anything.  E.g. Bruce vs Kelsey at Scrabble!  Kick it, Tom, kick it.

5. Wisconsin's Chad Inman extended his lead by picking up 260 points at IOS 5.  Third place Tate Handy could still catch him but his decision to play Open at Michigan States and skip IOS 5 suggests he's conceding.

It's nice to see five IOS players on their way to a pointy slab of marble.  Two years from now dig up this fearless prediction:  2010, Advanced Men, Jesse Cahill.  2010 Advanced Women, Kiralyn Brakel.  2010, Advanced Grand, me, but only because I played Bowling Green, Worlds and Am Nats like in 2008.

Tom beat Krall in this competition last year, so he knows how to do it.  Talk about tortoise and hare, though!  Krall started out the year acting like there was no way he was going to lose the obelisk again.  By the end of March he had nearly 2400 points (3415 currently) getting a big boost from Bowling Green and the Memorial, neither of which Tom played.  Krall has a bit of a late season advantage come November and December with some warm weather events as our local schedule tapers, but if this plays out like last year, Tom gets his matching bookend obelisk.  Stay (or, more properly, get) healthy, Tom!

Hope I can live up to that fearless prediction :)  I'll be married with children in 2010 but.... one of the many reasons I popped the question was her full support of everything I do, including a ridiculously gas & time consuming disc golf schedule.   I may be reloacting to Ann Arbor, MI soon & that would take me farther from all the A-tiers I played this summer, but making friends along the way could lend to some cost saving car pooling for most of them :)

In regards to car-pooling... anyone interested in the Nats Halloween B-tier in Bowling Green? Oct 25th & 26th...

With PDGA.com being only semi-functional it is pretty hard to follow the points races.  Takes a lot of clicking and waiting if you already know who the leaders were.

Looks like I'm hanging in there in Am Master.  Kira and Kelsey are now a lock.  I noticed the other day that Tom was trying to get some information from Stuart to figure out where they are.  I did not see if Stuart responded.

Hey Bruce, why don't you talk to who you talk to about getting the points updated. It has been awhile since the last update.

Bruce Brakel

I padded my lead today by 6 X a B-tier Advanced factor.  Kira played well enough to win in Advanced Women.  I played pretty crappy, but with the weather, I averaged a little above my rating.  She and I seem to be confortably ahead of the pack.

Maybe I'll talk to Carolyn on Monday.  I wanted to talk to her about something else anyway.

Byron Big D Doubles got processed for points within the past couple of weeks, so they must have had a points update fairly recently.  I think you, Kelsey and I have our obelisks wrapped up.  Kiralyn too, if they let Kelsey take the Advanced Women's obelisk.
