WGN Morning News @ Willow Stream Park

I was contacted by a representative from the WGN morning show. They are doing a special segment on disc golf and they would like a number of disc golfers to represent the course and explain some of the rules of the game. The time is from 6:30 AM-9AM on Thursday September 11th. The more the merrier!!!! Here is the email I received from the WGN representative.

Doug-

Nice talking with you. Glad to hear you're in for Thursday at Buffalo Grove's Disc Golf course. The segment is called 'Around Town' and our reporter is Ana Belaval. It will air LIVE on WGN Morning News.

This is the rundown of how our morning goes. If you and the other players get there around 6:30-ish, we'll have time to sketch out what we'll do in each hit.


6:00 WGN truck arrival
7:00 quick hello from Ana (8 seconds)
7:20 longish tease (45-seconds)
7:39 shorter 15-second tease
7:45 full hit (2:30)
8:00 quick hello from Ana (8 seconds)

Interesting that he did not mention the park. His e-mail makes it seem like he thinks there's only one disc golf course in BG.

I saw a couple of the interludes with the reporter and the players on WGN.  Lets hear it for Chris Jordan.  He was a great spokesman for the disc golf sporting his '07 AM Worlds polo and demonstrating the three different types of discs- drivers, midranges, putters. Nice job Chris.

A big thank you to everyone that showed up this morning. So sad I could not make it I had a emergency for work I had to take care from home early this morning. I watched most of the broadcast this morning. Kudos to Chris Jordan for representing the sport well. I thought it was some of the best exposure I have ever seen for disc golf. I just wish they would stop calling it Frisbee Golf on thier graphics, I think they stole the graphic from the local Rockford coverage of the tournament over the weekend. At least Ana called it Disc Golf.

The only thing I would like to have seen done differently is some early notification and/or coordination. I'm not trying to harp on anything but it realy would have been nice to have seen this done at the club tournament on Friday, 9\12\08.

nicely done Chris!  I think I would have been too nervous to do a live feed - the one video that I was in they took a 10 minute interview and used what, two sentences from it? lol.  I'd never survive!

I'm very happy they corrected themselves to say disc golf... I don't feel like walking around saying "Copyright Wham-O" every time I would say Frisbee Golf.

Just say frisbie instead of Frisbee and you should be OK. Frisbie is the long defunct bakery that was in the public domain that Wham-O based the name Frisbee from. Personally I think the sport would be bigger if we all called it frisbie golf. You normal person knows what frisbie golf is.

Copies of Disc Golf Live video magazine are provided free of charge.  Only a local resident can access his/her local station, but there's not too much involved in bringing a show to the broadcast airwaves.

Besides the link to the Chicagoland stations, there are hundreds of other stations across the US and beyond where local citizens can submit shows for broadcast.  How cool is that?  Try:
