i am not new at the internet thing.  but it has not been a few days it has been a couple of weeks since they got the new page up. and until it is back up and runing like the old page it sucks ass (we never had problems like this on the old web site so all u can blow me)

You don't read do you? The function for TDs to upload event results is not back up yet. Jon and Scott do not yet have the ability to update scores. The new site is much better, but it is still a work in progress to get the old functionality back without opening up the sight to be hacked again.
Besides entirely superficial stuff that is lost on the color blind, what's better about the new site?  To me it looks like the old site with a fresh coat of paint, except the painters swiped some of the silverware while the owners were out.  It was just the ice tea spoons, but I drink ice tea...

The advantage of the new site is that the office staff should be able to easily upload new documents without needing someone that knows how to code web pages. Most of the benefits are hidden from us, we see them in the form of faster turn around getting documents posted.

What this child seems to be forgetting is that the original site was also up and running for years. The new site, with as many quirks as some seem to find in it, is still a work in progress. Remember that the PDGA is not a muti-million dollar conglomerate. If they had the funding to use someone like 2advanced studios or an American Eagle, then the site would be a work of art. Some of the people working on it may be simply volunteering their time. So cjordan, sit back, relax and shut the *(&^#$ up.

2advanced is an awesome company, had a friend who worked with them on some freelance stuff

To be fair, they are spending $75,000 on this project. They could afford American Eagle and then some. With that type of money being spent and the amount of money coming in from dues and tourneys, I have no problem saying that someone dropped the ball bigtime here. I don't think the new site sucks, but the process and the manners in which they have handled everything are pretty poor to say the least.

I rarely rip on the PDGA, but I don't get this new website at all.  What was the point?  Its all the same stuff and almost in the same layout.  I was hoping for some new features like new ways of sorting player info, maybe some player profiles or the ability for players to load their profile so it shows up when you click on their name in the results, or Brett had suggested that when you click on a player's name you should be able to send them a message on the website, perhaps as a message forum PM.  Also, I've always thought a link to past national and world champions should be easily accessible on the home page.

Another feature I'd like to see is being able to sort tournaments by the TD.  You click on their name and a list of all the tournaments they have run comes up, and maybe a link connecting the tourament on the Tour page to a forum topic specifically for that tournament where the TD can post vital information (good for TD's without websites).  Obviously there is a topic for alot of tourneys on the current message forum, but I'm lazy like alot of people and I NEVER go on the PDGA discussion forum because there are a million topics and I don't want to search through them.  If there was just a link on the Tour page (which i visit frequently), I'd be more likely to visit the forum.

It might all be asking for alot, and maybe more improvements are yet to come, but so far I've not seen anything significantly different with the website that I would consider a positive.

Also, does anybody else have a problem clicking on the tabs at the top?  They disappear on me before I can click them alot.

dan, to keep them from disappearing (depends on what version of browser you're using I think I've seen) just click on the menu first (single click) and then the drop down menu will persist for you to click on it.

They're paying $75,000 for this project?  Holy cow I'd do it for them at that price!!  I've done as big of a project as the pdga site for under $3k.  Craziness.

Most expensive PDGA projects are just g.o.b. kickback schemes.  If they are paying 75 grand I would not be surprised if they were paying a big chunk of it to the former commissioner.

I think the $75k number was thrown out by Pat in one of his flame baiting posts where he only gives 1/3 of the information that he knows (1/2 of which might be inaccurate). He later posts that he isn't sure if that was the final contract. They are paying money for a security audit, I'm not sure what else they are paying for. Dan, I think some of your ideas are good ones. Once the site gets back to pre-hacked functionality, then they are going to start on a laundry list of new features. There's a thread under PDGA topics where you could probably post your feature ideas for them to add to their list (which I think is getting rather long).

The disappearing tab issue is with one type of browser (I don't remember which). It is a known issue.

$75K is way too much for a site like this. I wouldn't believe that. As a creative director I would never approve that qoute. Imagine a web designer at $75-$100 and hour. That's 750-1000 hours for a site like this? No way.

I think you should have alot more facts and evidence than you probably actually have before you make accusations like that.  Thats just random gossip aimed at slandering people.

Dan, you've got to amend that to "he doesn't play disc golf tournaments", only played 3 this year, helped out at Lombard, West & Channahon Pro days (didn't see you at either of the latter...), and played a lot of casual rounds

At least I post a  ;D when I "rip" on someone. Why >am I< taking Dan seriously? I'm being just as much of a net newbie as I accused Jordan of being, lol

mirth

Slander is spoken, libel is written.... but I digress.

I wouldn't rip the PDGA on the new site until its done. Yes, it should have been feature complete before launch but they obviously had other priorities in getting something online after the site was defaced.

Okay, I really dislike the flash-based dropdowns. Overall it seems like the new PDGA site is less mobile friendly than the old site.

Yes.  At Rockford I had the scores off the PDGA site on my Windows Mobile PDA before the brass was handed out.  This was due to Jon working at the speed of light and PDGA having a site that is mobile friendly. I recently tried to look up the scores of an event recently on my mobile and could not  do it with the stock mobile version of IE. I have another porgram, Skyfire, that uses Flash. However, its really hard to read the PDGA site and the results with this program.
